Working great as an LLM server. Even running it through an old T480 with TB3. Even on this older hardware it works. Takes some tinkering with Rocm as this card is newer and has some bugs, but use brave Leo or another LLM with claude as an option to troubleshoot. Don't leave context length at 32k. It will roll over to CPU even though a Q6-K 32B model will fit on the GPU. Well worth the price point verse a 5090. Forget that nonsense. Once I get this sorted out I'll run this parallel with another eGPU daisy chained over TB5. ... show more

Solid perf for LLMs and games alike. On the loud side given that it's a blower design, but I knew that going in: it's louder than a conventional fan-cooled GPU but quieter than the vacuum cleaners and hair dryers I've heard them compared to. I already have one of these cards, which seems to work fine. I just ordered a second and installed it in my week-old system. When I started my system, I heard fan noise. "It couldn't be the new video card, or maybe one of the accessory cables is touching the fan". Nope. There was only one screw holding the fan on; the two missing screws are TINY, so I probably don't have replacements on hand. And now I have to go through the process of RMA, return, time lost, reduced productivity, etc. I now question Asrock's QA process. Not a happy camper. Edit: I found one additional screw in the anti-static bag and the last one in the carpet. The card has been working fine for about 48 hours. I add two stars (as it was a complete product) and suggested to Asrock they secure them with some lock-tite. They did mention that this was an issue. Before I found the last screw, I sent a support request email about sending out some screws. They said I would have to RMA the card. RMAs are refurbs BTW. Also, Amazon could only refund at the time as the seller (Asrock) was out of stock. So, there we wasn't an option for a replacement. ... show more

Overall a good product for local AI functionality. My main use case is ComfyUI image and video generation on Ubuntu 26.2. I highly recommend looking on YouTube for ComfyUI toolbox for the 9700. It has all of the ROCm and other requirements needed. I used Claude Code to help with taking the toolbox settings and cloning them to my install instance. You’ll be restricted to WAN and Qwen based workflows mostly. For local AI, I have run ollama.cpp and Hermes Agent locally with no problems. The 32GB of DDR6 VRAM at this price really does well. I had a RTX 3090 in this system before and it ran at 80-82c when generating. The 9700 runs at about 64c at full load keeping my entire system cooler. The fan is a little loud when running full speed but the cooler temps will be worth the extra noise. I’m running it with a 1000w power supply with a 24 core Intel processor and 128GB of DDR 6 memory and have had no issues with power. This card is a lot smaller than a lot of other GPUs in this class so fitment should not be an issue. I do wish the power pigtail was a bit longer so you could hide the 3 power connections better, but it’s not bad. The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is the fan on mine rubs when spinning up to speed. At low and high speed it’s fine, but during the spin up is when it has the issue. It’s very well packaged and feels solid in the hand. It looks good in the setup. It doesn’t have any RGB but I personally don’t think it needs it. ... show more

Works great so far. Have it my main desktop computer. Only gets loud if I'm running ai processing/under full load. If I use for games it does not get loud. Honestly best card you can probably get currently for lots of Vram amd keeping it affordable.
