  • Does the job
I took the advice of other reviewers and got a bright LED bulb. (There was no bulb in the box.) It remained cool and I enlarged a detailed 4 x 4 inch sketch to a 36" square canvas for a painting. I didn't notice any distortion. I also have a bigger Artograph projector with a copy board and fan--this smaller projector was actually easier to use because of its lighter weight. Getting the image size, position, and focus is all a fiddly process, but I found this a very acceptable, economic way of transferring an image. ... show more

  • Projects, stays cool with energy efficient bulb
I'm giving this thing 5 stars because it works as expected and is great for hobbyists and small business. I am almost finished with a painting that I started using this thing. It is amazing for drawing accurate images. Don't listen to all the reviews about this thing running hot. Mine came with an energy efficient bulb, and I am soon going to replace it with a super bright LED bulb. Yes, it is dim with old incandescent bulbs, but why even bother with them when you can have 100W brightness with a cool LED or florescent bulb? You will need to work in a dark room to use this, just like any projector. If you're looking for a good deal, this is it. These sell at art stores for $120, and if you're into making backdrops, or murals, or just painting your kids walls, this thing works great. If you aren't willing to spend a few bucks to get a really good LED bulb, this will still work, but you will need to let your eyes adjust, especially if you are drawing or working on a canvas that isn't white. I STRONGLY urge you to buy a super bright LED bulb along with this. The brighter the better, within the wattage limits on this enlarger. The largest image you can copy from is a 5 inch by 5 inch picture. It sounds tiny, but all you have to do is get a picture or image you want to enlarge, and print it out using the computer to reduce it to a 5x5" picture. Grid your work out, and do one section at a time. I just finished an 8ft by 8ft backdrop using this method, and it worked great. I received a ton of compliments on the quality. If you have any questions about this thing, feel free to ask. ... show more

  • Underpowered, cheap construction.
1. The environment needs to be VERY dark in order to see any detail. 2. About a 4 or 5 mm gap in the plastic at the front that light leaked through, contributing to poor image quality. 3. Focusing is accomplished by moving the head in and out instead of turning it like the construction of the unit suggests. Very imprecise. And is impossible to do with one hand because its so light. 4. The weight is so insufficient that just the pull of the power cord caused it to move. 5. No active heat removal, wouldn't want to put this product on anything of value. 6. Light source was a none directional, household lightbulb scattering light everywhere the vast majority of which was not in the direction (through the lens) it was needed. 7. Lenses are not sealed, and will accumulate dirt and dust quickly, which you would mistake for part of an original artwork, and there was a spot on the lens, (couldn't tell if it was a defect or just dust). 8. Edges of projection were very poorly defined. 9. No keystone, lateral or horizontal adjustments at all. 10 ETC. You get the idea. I know this is a low cost very entry level piece of equipment and I should not have expected much for $95.00, but even the cheapest (much LESS less than $95.00) digital projector has sealed lenses and height and keystone adjustments, (keystone adjustment is critical if your media surface isnt perfectly parallel to the lens, like on an easel) cooling fan, fine focal adjustment and available hardware for mounting. In my opinion, you're infinitely better off buying a digital projector for this purpose. Obviously I'm returning it. Thanks. ... show more

  • Easy to use but not very bright
Very easy to use right out of the box but found that the toon has to be pitch black in order to see an enlarged image. It’s not as bright as I hoped. But, again, easy to use.

  • This one that I ordered was more or less a beginners trial run for me to see weather I liked it or not
I'am a artist; and I find the Artograph Projector a most valuable tool...When I have a deadline of art work to produce to a client; I can't tell you how fast this item helps me meet these dates!!! I always heard about these projectors, but never thought I had any use for them, until I did some research on the topic>. And boy was I surprised> So much so that I entend to upgrade to the LED500 Art Projector; which is a beast!!!!! This one that I ordered was more or less a beginners trial run for me to see weather I liked it or not. In fact it has already made me more money than I could have imagine!!! I recently did a mural painting on a wall for a young lady's newborn baby's room. And im happy to say she was just crazy about it....so much so that she spread the word about my skills to some friends of hers, and now I've been commissioned to do three more!!!! In closing, I liked to say that all my orders came in the allotted time, and in excellent condition!!! Thank you so much, yours truly Roy Henderson...... ... show more

  • Works with my iPad Pro!
I placed it on top my iPad Pro on the brightest setting in a rather dark room and it cast a good enough image image that I was able to outline it with a pencil onto my canvas. I did this without plugging the machine in or turning on the lamp inside, just using the light of my iPad to cast the image. I get pretty good detail using this method. I’m able to get a very detailed image when I print it out on paper and turn on the machine’s lamp in a dark room. It’s not movie projector perfect but it’s certainly good enough for the job. So overall, the Tracer works great! It helps me set up the basic composition on the canvas much more quickly that the grid method! ... show more
