This laser is worth the purchase
Size: 12W
Unit arrived when it was supposed to. The setup was very easy. I am new to the world of lasers. This unit is very sturdy and works really well. If you ever thought about getting a laser this would be a great unit to start with. So far using Lightburn I have figured out a few of the things I’ve wanted to make. Still have a lot to learn but I am impressed with this laser. ... show more

Noticeable Upgrade Over the 7W, Especially with LightBurn
Size: 12W
I ordered this 12W laser engraver because I already own the 7W version and wanted a second machine so I could run multiple projects at the same time. I was also interested in seeing how much of an improvement the more powerful laser would provide. Like my 7W unit, everything arrived well packed and protected with foam, and all of the components were in good condition after unboxing. Since assembly is essentially identical to the 7W model, setup was very easy for me. It took about 20 minutes to go from opening the box to making my first engraving. I also prefer the red and silver appearance of this model, although that’s obviously just personal preference. The printed instructions still aren’t particularly helpful, but the QR code provides access to much better online instructions and a tutorial video covering assembly, setup, and first use. I did initially have trouble getting this unit connected through Wi-Fi to the phone app, but after shutting everything down and restarting it, the connection worked properly. I like that I can use either of my Artilume machines through the same app. Unfortunately, the app itself is still the weakest part of the experience. It’s useful for quickly sending a simple project to the engraver, but I find it frustrating for more serious work. Fortunately, this machine is also compatible with LightBurn, which is how I prefer to use it. The recommended starting settings for this 12W version were closer to what I ultimately needed than they were with my 7W machine, so I was able to get everything dialed in relatively quickly. The difference in laser power is noticeable. Compared with my 7W version, I can engrave at faster speeds without needing to run the laser as close to full power. I’ve also been able to produce darker lines and more noticeable differences in shading and contrast while maintaining faster working speeds. Cutting performance is considerably better as well, and I’ve successfully worked with thicker material than I could comfortably cut with the 7W version. There are still some limitations. Focus height has to be set manually using the supplied spacer, and this remains an open-frame machine without the enclosure or automatic focusing features found on some more expensive engravers. Overall, I prefer this 12W version to my 7W model. The additional power makes a meaningful difference in both engraving and cutting, while setup remains simple and the 400 x 400 mm working area provides plenty of room for my projects. The phone app still needs significant improvement, but when I use the machine with LightBurn, I’ve been able to get very good results. For my purposes, the 12W version offers a better balance of speed, power, working area, and price. ... show more

Big, precise, not so portable, some assembly required
Size: 12W
I switched from the T1 7W to this one and this is bigger/better in pretty much every way. It's easy to carry, but 'portable' it is not. This arrived well-packed but assembly required. You'll want a good sized space to put it together, because once it starts coming together it's pretty big. The components all look and feel solid. The 80/20 rails seemed better quality than others I've used too. There are a number of construction steps so give yourself half an hour to do it right. The printed instructions are ok but a little thin in spots. Just watch the assembly video here it's much better. Routing the belts is a bit of challenge with big hands. I'm not a fan of how the belts are routed, and tightening them is a little bit of a trick, but they are working great. Completely assembled, it feels nice and solid with smooth motion. Now it was time to fire it up. This has wireless (APP support) but I _really_ don't like the mobile app, which is pretty awful and is the same one their other lasers use, so I saved myself the pain this time and went straight to LaserGRBL and a cable with my laptop, and everything worked instantly. Focusing with the new focus height block is quick and easy. One major drawback of the portable units is knowing where you will burn. This unit still has issues with that, but the rails are clearly marked with centimeters and I was able to use LaserGRBL for absolute positioning, i.e. click on 300x300 and it goes right to that in the real world. This is a major improvement. Unfortunately it still doesn't have an 'aiming light' so precise positioning is still hard, but this is much better. My credit card test here is isn't quite square, but with the portable I wouldn't have even _tried_. The 12W has solid power so for many projects you can run at higher speeds. My first test grid was going way into the test board and I had to re-run it with a min speed of 7000. The 12W gets things done, so I imagine the 22W is a workhorse. Precision is very good. My power/speed test shows some warbles but that's from the board surface, not from the laser. My next pic is a scene on the aluminum. For a lot of things I was able to just run it at max speed. Repeatability is also good. I was able to precisely revisit earlier cuts. Ignoring the awful app, my biggest negative is, even with the rulers, it's still hard to align a job to the target, which is important. But pretty much everything else is right. At this price point this works really well, has great results, and it's very approachable, and all the Artilumes have been consistent performers. ... show more

Failed in 32 days
Size: 12W
It worked great for the first 32 days. Then the laser decided to quit working in the middle of a project. That was 5 days ago. Evidently the warranty department is not in the US. I send an email at 8am Central time and don’t get a response until after 10pm. They’ve asked for videos of the machine running which I’ve sent along with all the pictures they’ve asked for. Still no info or decision on warranting the laser module. In such a short time of use a laser module should last more than 50 hours! The only reason they are getting 2 stars is it worked great for 32 days. The warranty department deserves a negative review. ... show more

12w is a little better
Size: 12W
TL:DR - I have a 7w and 12w laser from this company, both are great for wood and easy to use. The 12W I am reviewing worked a bit better on metals, but still needed a couple passes. On thin wood it could cut through if you dont lower the power. I work consistently with metal as a blacksmith, so i really wanted to try etching some metal. I used a 7W and now tried the 12W, this 12W works much better, but still needs a couple passes for a lasting etch on metal. This was extremely well packaged and protected. The instructions are some of the best I've seen in a long time. Each step had all the hardware in its own labled zip lock and it came with all the tools needed. The phone app needs some work, it doesn't save images on there and it wouldnt let me pick an image from my photos, bit i could take a picture of something and it would create a file to etch that. Biggest downside is it has direct wifi connect and you can't access the internet while using the machine. You also have to remain connected the entire time it is operating. The PC/MAC programs work great, again you need to remain plugged in during operations. I already knew how well the 7W works, and the 12W was able to etch quicker and at a lower power on wood and other soft materials. On metal I still had to keep the power high and go slowly. I used mild steel and 5160 (leaf spring) which is high carbon and already hardened into a butcher knife. It worked great on both, but it needed a few passes to actually etch. Unfortunately the phone app doesnt have a "run 2x" option so you have to manually restart it. Overall this is an excellent little laser etching device for the price. Both the 12W and 7W can easily etch wood and softer materials. I would recommend the 12W for anything harder. ... show more

Large, Sturdy, and Works Great
Size: 12W
This item arrives neatly enclosed in a product box that provides plenty of protection, ensuring that the item is received in excellent condition. The engraver has a sturdy aluminum frame and a 16-by-16-inch working area, which provides a good amount of space for a variety of projects without making the machine excessively large. I like the flexibility of having several ways to operate this machine. The MKSLaser app allows designs to be uploaded and projects to be controlled wirelessly from a phone or tablet, while LightBurn and LaserGRBL provide additional options for computer users. The large working area also makes it possible to work on larger pieces or multiple smaller items at once. The included materials are useful for getting started, and the tool kit and protective plate are nice additions. The 0.04-by-0.04mm laser focus is designed for detailed engraving, and the machine supports several common file formats. There is also an air-assist connection available for anyone who wants to add that capability later. Overall, this is a great laser engraver with a large working area and several convenient operating options. I have enjoyed using this engraver so far, and I look forward to continuing to do so in the future. ... show more

Powerful Engraver With a Learning Curve
Size: 12W
Once calibrated, this engraver produced clean, detailed results on wood, leather, and other compatible materials. The large work area gives plenty of flexibility for different projects, and the overall frame feels sturdy during operation. Getting everything assembled and dialing in the correct settings took more experimentation than I expected. It's capable of excellent results, but beginners should expect to spend some time learning material settings before getting consistent performance. ... show more

A Machine You Can Start With and Grow Into
Size: 12W
I’ve used several Artilume engravers now, and they continue to impress me with how much capability they pack into machines that remain affordable and approachable. This A4 12000mW model is no exception. The biggest advantage here is the generous 400 x 400 mm work area. Having that much space opens the door to much larger projects and makes it far more versatile than many entry-level engravers. Combined with the increased power and excellent precision, it feels like a machine that can handle just about anything a hobbyist or small business owner is likely to throw at it. Like the rest of Artilume’s lineup, setup is refreshingly simple. Even someone completely new to laser engraving could realistically be up and running in about 30 minutes with a little patience and a willingness to learn the software. For someone just starting out, this machine is honestly more capable than you’ll probably need on day one. But that’s actually one of its biggest strengths. Instead of quickly outgrowing your engraver and shopping for an upgrade a few months later, this gives you plenty of room to expand your skills and tackle increasingly ambitious projects. Considering the price, I don’t think you’ll find many machines with comparable features and performance without spending two or three times as much. Whether you’re making personalized gifts, business products, craft fair items, or simply exploring a new hobby, this is an outstanding value. If you’re looking to get into laser engraving, I continue to think Artilume is one of the best brands to start with, and this model is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a machine they won’t outgrow anytime soon. ... show more
