  • Two ARRIS SURFboard mAX Pro W31 Form Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 W133 System AX11000
Style: Mesh System - mAX Pro
When purchasing ARRIS SURFboard mAX Pro W133 AX11000 Mesh System, Dontrentyourmodem-com offerred a Like New options with Two ARRIS SURFboard mAX Pro W31 for $195+$8.99S/H. I didn't notice the equivalent and purchased it. Upon opening the box, I realized that it's 2 W31 standalone router. It is an AX11000 Tri-Band Router covers 3,000 SqFt, but I thought the 2 W31 requires hardwired link. I returned it. A representative of Dontrentyourmodem-com sent a msg and said his tech person said it's the same as W133. All they have is 2 W31. I read up on the W133 and W31, and I think they can be linked wirelessly via SURFboard Central App. Indeed, they can be linked and act as a mesh system covering 6,000 SqFt as follows: 1. Power up each W31 and reset it, as they are used Like New units. 2. Turn off one unit and open SURFboard Central App (I had an ARRIS SURFboard S33 Cable Modem and already registered it in the App.) 3. In the App, select Add New Device, then Select mAX Pro Mesh, Next Link the App with the W31 Router already ON and Wired to the Cable Modem, a S33 in my case, Once connected, it will checked for any software updates. This part is tricky for me. It failed, and I had to turn off the S33 cable modem and W31 several times, and additional Reset of the W31 also. Finally it connected. This is the Main Router Unit. The other W31 can act as a satellite on a different floor or location on the same floor. 4. In the App, Select Add Satellite, Turn on the 2nd W31 unit, Click Next to connect the 2nd W31 to the App via bluetooth, Next to connect the 2nd W31 to the Main Router the 1st W31Unit. Again it took several tries to connect. That's all it took. The Wi-Fi signals are strong on both floor. I have a 5,400 SqFt house. Internet service with xFinity plan 400mbps Down and 100mbps up. Attached is an internet speed test with a XDO External USB WiFi6 Adapter Model AX1830 with 1201mbps on 5GHz Band and 574mbps on 2.4GHz Band. I got 471mbps down and 11.70mbps up. Great Connection and speed. The PC in the same room with the router. The speed varies during the days, but I'm happy with any speed above 100mbps. The speed is equally great on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Before with an ORBI 2200AC, I got around 70mbps on my same PC with an built-in Realtek 802.11n, and around 130mbps on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. The XDO AX1830 is also a Realtek USB3 adapter. I would recommend Two W31 Units as Tri-Band Mesh AX11000 System. ... show more

  • Nothing more to say- BUY THIS
Style: Mesh System - mAX
I've been a Cox Panaramic with Gigablast wifi user for over 4 years and I'm not over exaggerating when I say I contact them atleast once every 2 weeks. They've been to the house to fix my wifi signal 13 times in since November 2018 and each time it seems funny that they fix something a previous technician did but it doesn't improve my signal. I have a 2600 sq ft home on a 1/4 acre and never had a wifi signal outside the house and we have placed the Cox modem in every room with the same diminishing returns on signal. Never anything above 380mbs no matter how close you are. In comes Arris Tri-Mesh system like a Marvel Superhero and saves the day! Now I did pair this with the Arris S33 modem and I placed the mesh satellites on each end of the house. THIS FIXED EVERY SINGLE WIFI ISSUE I had instantly. I only write reviews if a product was bad or it is something that I would definitely buy again no questions asked. This was 100% value worthy to me! I never see anything below 600mbs now and peaks hit over 800mbs. Plus I get wifi in the backyard now and all the way to the street. ... show more

  • ARRIS AZ11000. Good, bad and the ugly
Style: Mesh System - mAX Pro
Let’s start with a Cliff Notes version of this review. Where it was needed most the AX11000 performed as promised, delivering high speeds and coverage greatly improved over a single router system. Downside - the AX1100 failed to deliver consistently to all locations; it appears at least a third ARRIS relay will be needed. The units are big and ugly. Set up app takes some work to get through. The unit was intended to provide full-house coverage in my 3,400 ft2 home – delivering up to 500 Mbs from our Xfinity-supplied coverage. This three-story house was constructed 1900s with about 1100 ft2 per floor. The internet runs through a CISCO DPC3941T data modem located in a basement office at one corner of the house. Our plan has a nominal download max of 500 Mbs and upload max of 15 Mbs. The CISCO modem delivers something shy of the top rate in the basement (my office). On the first floor we experienced 60-70% speed lost on the first floor, with no to little reception in the upstairs (3rd) floor. Outside (deck and yard), download speeds at best only around 4 – 20 Mbs. Outside of the office the heaviest use is the main room which is immediately above the CISCO modem. For reasons we believe have to do with a very massive fir floor (old growth 2”x8”x20’ timbers laid in parallel and glued together) we would receive only 150ish Mbs with occasional loss of reception during the most inopportune times. The last straw was when the system froze during the Twist and Shout parade scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off; I mean seriously who could tolerate that? Further out on the first floor in the kitchen online static recipes were ok – but trying to emulate the cooking skills in Szechuan Stir Fry on the You Tube Happy Wok channel; well let’s just leave it at beef and onions were burned. No e-books upstairs and no pandora outside. Of the ARRIS Surfboard family of products on Amazon, opted for the AX11000 based on ARRIS’ claim of whole-home coverage to 6,000 ft2 with 2 units, and the reviews offered by other users. Went with the top-of-the line unit hoping to do this but once – i.e., a unit that would provide the Full Monty over the whole house. Purchased it through Amazon, installed, speed tested the units in the basement, on the first floor, moved/optimized the ARRIS relay unit, tested/moved, tested/moved, and then let run for a month. Being a serious data geek, performed speed testing to optimize the second unit location, and then again after the final location was determined. Speed tests were done using Xfinity’s speed test with the CISCO alone, and then the AX11000 unit in side-by-side testing. A minimum of three measures were made for each location. Speed data are presented in the table, below. The results are fairly self-evident. In the basement where the CISCO is located the speeds were more-or-less equivalent. On the first floor the AX11000 improved download coverage significantly (and yes, I can use that term as I performed one-way statistical tests. Told you I was a data geek). What was unexpected and disappointing is that the upstairs speeds were the same. The only difference there was that the CISCO frequently dropped out completely; the AX11000 did not. Outside in the back yard both units hardly worked at all. The other unexpected item was that the upload speeds were the same for both systems in most locations. Net determination. Performance of the cable improved on the first floor. Reran the Buehler and Szechuan Wok tests; both performed as hoped. My kindle upstairs still is spotty; no Pandora in the back yard. Suspect to overcome that problem would need to add a third relay – which frankly at this price I am disappointed in. Other items to consider. The design and size of these units might be best described as Steam Punk meets bad plastic. Perhaps the units need to be that large to house the electronics, but when compared to the simplicity of design in Google Next, TP-Link, or Amazon’s eero can’t help but wonder if that could not be improved on. Several reviewers noted that the setup app could use work, and I concur. It was not intuitive, albeit I did get through it and ran the optimization after several iterations. Final score. Gave 4 stars for performance but withheld the final star due to the inability to cover my 3400 ft2 over three floors. Aesthetics gave it three stars; app three stars – ok the math is 3.33 stars but Amazon only deals in ½s. ... show more

  • Easy installation and operation, good price, good performance
Style: Mesh System - mAX
I have never had an Arris modem or router, I bought this Surfboard modem and mesh wifi routers after a terrible, unsuccessful Netgear Nighthawk installation experience. In 20 years I think I have only ever had Netgear equipment and their quality and ease of use has degraded each time. So I took a chance and so far, one week in, it is a great experience. I tend to think it's just going to run smooth for years, that's usually how these things go. So easy to set up and install - signal strength is really good and I have a large house with many more devices connected to wifi than I ever would have guessed. I highly recommend this product based on my initial experience. If that changes I will update this. I didn't rate tech support because I didn't need to call them! ... show more
