January 29, 2013: After TWENTY-FOUR months of use, I am still very pleased with my purchase. Not only does this rice cooker work well, but the price is fantastic! I cook 2-4 cups of rice (both brown and white - long grain, short grain, basmati, jasmine, etc.) at least two or three times a week and have not had any problems so far. It's easy to clean, the rice doesn't stick to the bottom, the rice (both brown and white) cooks well, and water does not bubble out even when cooking the full 4 cups of rice. Perfect for two people. I don't know why so many people have had issues with this rice cooker. I assume that they didn't grow up with rice cookers. Yes, the rice cooker can't be "shut off" while it's plugged in, but I've NEVER owned a rice cooker that did. I'm pretty sure you would have to buy a fancy rice cooker to get that feature, but who wants to spend that kind of money when rice cookers should just be simple and effective? Just unplug it - it's not that difficult. The only downside is that once you plug the rice cooker in, the cook light immediately comes on, even before you press the button down to start cooking the rice. So unless you pay attention to what you're doing, you'll think your rice is cooking when really it's just sitting there! After TWENTY-FOUR months of use, the coating inside the removeable pot has not bubbled, and it doesn't look like it will begin to peel or chip off anytime soon. Speaking from experience, don't buy any cheap rice cooker with a black non-stick coating on the inside. That coating will eventually start to peel off and get into your rice. Not yummy.

Great little cooker!, but non-stick coating flakes off!

We fulltime in our RV and this is just the right size for two of us, plus another couple for company. We also have a larger, fancier version that we have had for a year and love the idea on both of them that the release of steam vapors are minimized by the design. Makes GREAT rice (if you follow the directions....you have to be aware that when the instructions talk about a "cup" of rice, or water, it means the included measuring cup, not an 8 oz measuring cup, which the instructions also warn you about). There is no steamer basket with this model, however, you could use a small steamer insert and it would work very well. The larger model we have includes the basket and we always use that for steaming. UPDATE: Oct. 16, 2012: We used this to make some soups, dips, and a lot of oatmeal. This non-stick coating has started to flake off so we are pitching it! If we had been more careful and stirred the pot more frequently, this might not of happened.

This is a good simple rice cooker. This one I just ordered is a replacement for the exact same one that lasted 7 years. It was used frequently and was our fault that the last one failed prematurely. I can definitely recommend this rice cooker. It is simple and easy to use.

Suggest purchasing a extra warranty. ! Mine failed in less than 30 days.

The quality had really gone down hill along with the Warranty! These rice cookers used to have a 5 year warranty from Aroma. I purchased another one from Amazon and it did not make it a month and it just quit. I did exchange but really scared that it wont last. I definitely recommend purchasing a extra warranty . Especially that there is only a 1 year warranty now and not 5.

Good enough experience to purchase again

This is the first rice cooker we've owned. It was purchased just over two years ago, after my husband destroyed our microwave by letting rice boil over in it several times. So in eliminating a frustrating problem, I give it top marks. Functionally, it does a great job of cooking rice once you figure out the rice-to-water ratio that you like. It looses a star for being a little confusing to operate. The biggest issue in this regard is that there is no "off" button; you have to unplug the cooker to turn the heating element off. I would not recommend it for anyone who is absent-minded. We've used it approximately three times per week for about 28 months, and it looks like we'll be decommissioning it soon. The coating in the bowl is worn through in some spots and it isn't cooking to the correct consistency any longer. (The rice seems undercooked and overcooked at the same time.) I feel like we've gotten our money's worth out of this appliance, though. I'm planning to replace it with the upgraded version of this model.
