I purchased a home with a large arch window 5 years ago and I’ve been trying to find a solution for the blazing heat that comes through it ever since! My arch window is in my home office and is on the front of the house facing west so the 2-3 pm sun was unbearable. A few years ago I purchased a similar light filtering shade from a home improvement store. It didn’t do much other than give some privacy. It did nothing for the brightness and heat but I couldn’t afford to buy a custom made blind and didn’t know there were different affordable shade options until recently. Before I list my review of this product I wanted to mention some things I’ve learned- 1. There are 3 light filtering “degrees” you should know when looking for a shade. A “light-filtering” shade will pretty much just provide privacy and that’s it. “Light-blocking” will block a large portion of the light and heat. These will usually have an aluminum or dark-colored layer in the shade. Then there’s “black-out” options which totally block light. I don’t think you’ll find these in a shade option without getting a black shade. 2. For this product specifically there are 2 “color” options: white, white and silver. White is light filtering only. The white and silver option is the light blocking option and has an additional aluminum layer that will face out the window to reflect the sun. Now to my review- My only regret is not searching and finding/buying this sooner!! I’ve attached an image of my window with the thin light filtering shade I bought from somewhere else a few years ago. Also included is an image with this product. The pictures were taken only 20 minutes apart and there’s a huge difference! I purchased the white and silver option so it’d be light blocking and reflecting. The aluminum is a light silver color and I don’t find that you can even tell it’s silver, not white, from outside. It comes with double sided tape that I find isn’t very useful or sticky but I was able to just sit the shade and shade holder in the window without the need for tape. Now, does some light peak around the edges? Yes. If you accidentally bend the aluminum when trying to fit the window, can you see some wrinkles from outside? Yes. Do I care? No because at least I’m not cooking like a rotisserie chicken in my office! This product is a pack of 2 shades. If you’re a perfectionist and have more than 1 window to cover, I’d buy enough to have 2 shades per window. Use the 1st to get the size right and not have to worry about it being wrinkled then use that to cut the second one to the correct size. Overall, I’m super pleased and so glad I didn’t drop $300+ on a custom composite blind!!

Measuring is really difficult, short-cut: just hold the collapsed product vertically in the middle-is of the window, cut it until it fits, make sure you put the stupid plastic thing in there, done. I found I had to put it up vertically and pull both sides down evenly for it to fit right, and the double-sided sticky tape is the absolute last thing you should do, but it is necessary. Ordering a few more for my house, worth the struggle.

Great product for the price; very easy to measure, cut, and install. My biggest complaint is the shades have a few little holes throughout the design which become very apparent when sunlight is directly shining on it; one hole is about the size of a BB pellet. Using some thick white double-sided tape over the holes helps reduce the visibility, but not completely.

We just put it up today so I can’t speak to the longevity, but so far we love it! I got it for my baby’s room to help make it darker so she can sleep better. IF your window is a perfect half circle arch, it is SUPER easy to cut. If not, it can still be easy if you don’t mind it not fitting perfectly (lets a little more light in the edges if cut short), or you can try to trace and cut super slowly, or cut a little big and then trim. The good thing is that it comes in a pack of 2, so worst case you get a second try! I love that it is white on the inside, most arch shades that get the room dark are black which don’t look as good. And I LOVE that it is reflective on the outside - the room was noticeably cooler shortly after we put it up (and we already had blinds on our arch but they did not help with the heat). I can’t say for sure if they are 100% blackout because we opted to go the easy route with one simple cut, so the sides are just a hair short which lets a glimmer of light in, plus our window below isn’t blacked out. However before installing I shined my phone flashlight through and couldn’t see any light from that, so they are least block most of the light! We have blinds on top of the shade - we already owned the blinds but wanted it just a little darker and a lot cooler - but in the picture, the shade IS up, it is just between the window and the blinds. I just wanted you to have an idea for the darkness level of the room!

These worked out great for what I needed. During a certain time of day I couldn’t work in my office due to sunlight hitting my computer and desk (so hard to see). Put up this shade and it was instantly darker. Love it. Put another one up in the dining room just to match and help cool the room off. These work great and were easy to install, just the directions read funny. The first one took a little trial and error but once I got it figured out the second one was easy. Going to buy another set for my sunroom. I would recommend these especially for the price. I just wish they were white in both side (like I ordered) instead of one side silver and one side white.

Installing this cheap product is a pain, wasted one shade learning the tricks. The design of using adhesive tape is difficult and when it comes time to paint or clean the window, you will have to replace the shade for it will get destroyed during removal. When installing this product, you will have to cut the shade 1/2" to 3/4" off the length to compensate for the plastic center bracket, which is not explained in the instructions. When using the adhesive tape, only apply short trips to the bottom of the plastic center support and short strips (2" to 3") at the ends. Do not apply the tape to the entire length of the shade for once it sticks, you cannot adjust it.
