  • works well - style has some limitations
The media could not be loaded. Overall, this handheld welder works better than I ever expected it to. I've run both a 332 and 1/8" rod on it and it ran both with ease. I've mainly played around with it on some mild steel, but I was able to run a consistent weld with it. Welds are easy to start. Simply plug it in, turn it on, rotate the dial to whatever setting you want, and you're ready to go. The grounding clamp is connected to the welder itself so you're limited in some of your movement because of that. There is not as much room or length as your standard welder style. The style limits being able to get into tight places as well because the electrode is straight out so not as much maneuverability. I'm not sure how long you could run this at a time as your inverter and everything is in your hand so it gets warm. It is going to need to cool down between sessions. All in all, the style has some limitations, but overall it performed far better than I expected. ... show more

  • Compact Powerhouse for Serious Welding Projects
The ARCCAPTAIN handheld welder feels like a professional tool disguised in a surprisingly compact package. The IGBT inverter technology delivers a steady 120A output, making it capable of handling a variety of welding tasks, from light repairs to medium-duty steel projects. It accommodates 3/32" to 1/8" welding rods, which covers most typical stick welding needs, and the arc starts cleanly without excessive spatter. The unit is lightweight and portable, making it easy to maneuver around a workshop or take to remote job sites. The upgraded ground clamp is solid, providing stable contact and reducing interruptions during welding. I particularly appreciated the included auto-darkening goggles. They are responsive and comfortable, switching quickly to protect your eyes while letting you keep an eye on your work. Setup is straightforward, and the controls are intuitive, even for someone accustomed to larger, more industrial machines. The machine runs quietly and remains cool during extended sessions, a testament to its inverter efficiency. The build quality feels sturdy, with durable housing that resists minor bumps and heat exposure. While it’s not designed for heavy industrial production, this welder punches above its weight for DIY enthusiasts, hobbyists, or light professional work. It’s priced competitively, offering excellent value compared with similar 110V stick welders, and the portability combined with performance makes it a standout in its category. For anyone looking for a reliable, all-in-one stick welding solution, this unit is a strong contender. ... show more

  • Works Great
I used this welder on a standard 120-volt outlet with a 20-amp breaker in my garage. At times, I ran it at maximum power (5+) without tripping the breaker or causing the equipment to get hot. The rated power of 120 amps feels accurate. I used 6013 and 7018 electrodes in 3/32 and 1/8 inch sizes. Running 3/32 electrodes worked best for me at a power setting of 4 to 4.5, and 1/8 inch electrodes at 5 to 5+. Sometimes, I wished I had just 5 more amps while running 1/8 inch electrodes. I also occasionally had difficulty getting 1/8 inch electrodes to light without sticking. For such a compact welder that runs off a regular outlet, it starts up and runs 3/32 inch rods smoothly. The duty cycle is 30% (3 out of 10 minutes), which is suitable for this type of welder. Construction is plastic with a carbon fiber look, and electrodes are held in place using spring tension. The ground clamp is of good quality, and the 14-gauge power cable is approximately 8 feet long. The auto-dimming glasses, while not my first choice, are functional and take up little space inside the case. Overall, I really like it; it's a quality product that welds exceptionally well and comes from a reputable company. ... show more

  • I'm surprisingly impressed
I'm surprised at how impressed I am with this little thing, I was sure it was going to be a gimmick. However, I have to admit that this does get the job done and is definitely easier to carry out into the field than a big one. It was able to weld all of the smaller sticks I tried with no issue, although of course there are limitations based on amperage. Overall I think this is a super cool tool to add to your toolbox. ... show more

  • Nice
This could be better but it is not bad for a handheld machine. It works pretty well and the welds seem to hold well.
