If it would be feasible to begin, it was the first thing that I was concerned about. Any activity that requires a lengthy preparation time in our house quickly loses its impetus. After connecting this system to the television and turning it on, we were able to choose a game so that we could start playing it within a few minutes. It is not necessary for one member of the family to operate as the full-time operator since the menu flow is straightforward enough for other members of the family to take turns purchasing items. The majority of games reward simple, obvious movement rather than complicated button combinations, which is another way in which the motion controls make the learning curve lower. This has remained intriguing beyond the first few nights since there are a total of 28 games to choose from. In order to maintain the session's intensity, we often play in short sets of three to five games, during which we switch between a variety of game patterns. The fact that we are able to play a whole game even when we only have ten or fifteen minutes to spare makes it simple to include into our schedules throughout the week. When we have more time, we treat it like a mini tournament, with the winner staying in and the next person rotating onto the second controller. This process continues until we have a winner. I picked this up specifically for Christmas gatherings, and it's already been such a hit with my son that I know it's going to be the star of our holiday celebrations. The motion sensing technology actually gets everyone off the couch and moving around, which is exactly what I was hoping for instead of everyone just staring at screens passively. My son has been playing with it nonstop since we got it, and watching him jump around and get genuinely active while gaming makes me feel way better about screen time than his usual video games. The setup was incredibly easy, literally just plug it in and we were playing within minutes, no complicated instructions or technical headaches. I love that it's compact enough that it doesn't take up a ton of space in our living room, but still delivers a full gaming experience. What really excites me is how perfect this is going to be for our family gatherings over the holidays. We always struggle to find activities that work for different age groups, from my young kids to their older cousins and even the adults who want to join in. This hits that sweet spot where everyone can participate and actually have fun together, not just the hardcore gamers in the family. Plugging the power adapter in first, I ran the HDMI cable behind the TV and shifted the console upright so it wouldn’t lean against the stand, then waited a second for the screen to wake up. The game menu filled in with far more choices than I expected, maybe more than necessary, and that’s where things slowed down because the kids immediately started arguing over which one to launch. Table tennis ended up winning after some back and forth, though I had to step in and scroll for a moment just to move things along. A few swings felt off at the start while I adjusted my stance, then I drifted over to the kitchen to grab water and came back mid-round. Motion response looked normal once everyone settled into taking turns, nothing surprising there. I think the sheer number of games makes deciding harder than playing sometimes. One controller got set on the couch while voices carried on behind me. Didn’t really think about it. I left the system powered on and straightened the HDMI line before clearing space on the floor again.

This is a great idea. We wanted our kids to be able to move around inside in the winter time. And I didn't want to pay for the Nex console and their subscription fees. So we tried this. We only tried the AR motion games since that's what we were interested in. The problem is that the technology just isn't there. No matter where we stood or placed the camera/ console, it picked up about 50% of our movements. This led to a lot of frustration instead of having fun. Also, many of the games have no explanation as to how they work. We tried many movements to get them to do something, and nothing happened. And there are no prompts to explain how they work. Perhaps in a couple years the tech will be there. For now, we are returning this and using our 10 year old Wii, since at least that responds to all of our movements.

We set this up in the living room and it was surprisingly easy to get going. Plugging it into the TV took just a couple of minutes and we were playing right away with no downloads or internet needed. The motion tracking feels responsive and intuitive, so both kids and adults could jump in without a learning curve. The variety of games keeps things interesting, from active sports style games to calmer puzzle options, and having two players makes it especially fun for family nights or playdates. I like that it encourages movement instead of sitting still, and it has been a nice alternative to phones and tablets. It feels well suited for shared time together and has already become something we pull out regularly for quick bursts of fun.
