    • This Thing WORKS!
I eat an apple nearly every day per my doctor's recommendation due to a near bout with diverticulitis 3 years ago. I'm supposed to eat them with the skin on, which I like, but I hate gnawing at them to eat them off from the core. So I was quartering them with a knife. My son saw me doing this and asked me if I had considered an apple slicer, which I had never even heard of. So I got on Amazon and looked at a number of slicers. I settled on this one because it was 100% stainless steel - no plastic handles - and it cut the apple into only 12 sections rather than 18 or more, and I reasoned that the fewer cuts one was trying to make at a time, the less effort needed and the less strain on the cutter. I believe I've been vindicated. This slicer cuts the 12 sections with reasonable ease and has yet to bend or break in any way. Cleaning is easy. I just swish it around in the dish water, and then rinse it with the hot rinse water and it comes out 100% clean. I suppose it could also go in a dishwasher, which I don't have. It's also cheaper than several others I saw that I thought would probably not work as well and were potentially more subject to breaking or bending. ... show more

Easy to use. Cuts all the way through apples. Cleans easily and the little forks are convenient for picking up the slices (they really are an added plus).

    • Good but different from the plastic ones
Ive been using an apple slicer with metal blades and a plastic handles. The plastic cracked, but is still usable for now, so I ordered an all metal apple slicer. I like it. It cuts the same as the plastic one, but the handles sit lower to the surface than the plastic one. The first time I used it I hit my knuckles on the cutting board. To keep from hitting my knuckles I have to push down on the handles without wrapping my finger around them, which still works. Its just a different way of holding it. After 12 lbs of apples I was fine with it. So take your pick. The plastic may be easier to hold and push down to cut, but may eventually crack. If the plastic finally falls off it will not be usable. The metal one requires pushing down with flat palms. Maybe not quite as comfortable but still gets the job done just as well and in the same amount of time. ... show more

The steel blades on this Apple Slicer are very strong and sharp. The durability is great. Other apple slices that are made from plastic frequently Brake. This stainless steel apple slicer will last for years and a great value.
