Pitting cherries is among my most hated things to do in the kitchen. Tedious, messy, sticky, etc. This contraption is a total game changer. Literally reduces the time spent pitting by >80%. I can blow through 4 pounds of cherries in less than 10 minutes now and we're set for a week. I should have watched the video up with the pictures on Amazon... my mind was blown when I discovered the adjustable base to fit any reasonable size bowl, and again when I realized that you can pull the white top part all the way back and the cherries are pushed off the little pitting spears so they fall into the bowl without having to touch them. Now Oxo just needs to come up with something that tears off the stems and positions the cherries just right in the tray... I throw it in the top rack of the dishwasher and it cleans up nice. It's all plastic so I don't expect it to last forever, but if I get a couple years out of it I'll be very happy at this price. I've had it for 6 weeks and it's already paid for itself in saved time. If you know someone that loves cherries, get them this as a gift if they don't already have one. They are going to really appreciate it. ... show more

To be honest, it will not pit those huge, colossal green olives. But everything else pits easily. I found the unit works better if I do not use a bowl. Worked right on the counter. I have pitted every olive and cherry found at my grocers. Pits land in the tray and the olives/cherries pop out or can be moved to a bowl by hand. I was sick of pitting one item at a time. If you have kids, buy this. Also if you have kids… **HUGE TIP ESP IF YOU HAVE KIDS** Either count your pits or check each one individually bc sometimes even though it’s successful with pitting the cherries, the pit sometimes stays attached to the fruit. Your kid might break a tooth, swallow it, etc so please be careful! Not too messy honestly, Easy to assemble/disassemble and clean Efficient Value for money Sturdy for sure! For my chronically ill / disabled fam: I have hEDS so I have to push with both hands and put a little body weight into it. If you are really hypermobile and sublux easily in the elbows, wrists etc be careful and consider having someone help you.
