  • No algae!
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
We have a tank near a window that seemed to cause a lot of late growth. Each week I was scrubbing the sides of the tank and washing all of the decorations. Since adding this stuff to a water change 2wks ago, I have seen no algae. Careful though - maybe I added a little too much, maybe I stressed the fish, but I lost 2 fish in the day or so after adding. ... show more

  • Works Like Magic
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I read all of the reviews, tips, and tricks before buying this. I couldn’t get my algae bloom under control, and I was sick at looking at a green tank. I read a review that said that this stuff killed all of the fish in a tank, but I’m not sure if they used the proper dosage, and that worried me. I have a 50 gal tetra community with cory cats, snails, and shrimp, so I was worried that too much of this stuff would wipe out the whole tank. I added 2.5 ml to the tank, which is half of the recommended dosage, and waited around to see if the water would clear up or if any of the fish would start gasping for air/dying. Within an hour I started noticing that the water was starting to clear up, and the fish seemed fine. I went to bed and woke up to see the tank was almost perfectly clear, and nobody died. I would use this product again, but not the full dosage since the half dose worked just fine. ... show more

  • Took 2 days but works
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I was upset at first because some people’s reviews said it cleared up in 15 minutes. Our did not. In fact even the next day was still kinda green. It took about 48 hours to get from picture one to picture two. We have 3 goldfish and a pleco.

  • Works well but you must factor in water displacement from gravel / sand and decorations.
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I have a 5 gallon tank that uses slightly more than 3 gallons of water after rocks and gravel added. I did not use .5ml, I used .25ml and it worked perfectly.

  • TOXIC to fish
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I had an issue with algae and this SEEMED like the logical choice. Based on the label I added 2.5 ml of product into my 29 gal. tank. This is just slightly less than the recommended 1 ml for each 10 gal. I also increased aeration to ensure adequate oxygen in the aquarium. Within the first day several fish stopped eating, became lethargic hiding at the bottom of the tank and making occasional erratic movements. On the third day my 6-year-old watched our rainbow shark make a few large twitching movements before it died. Our gourami and molly were still not eating and instead remained hiding in the plants and only moving occasionally. The tetras and guppy were still swimming about but again, their behavior was odd with the guppy trying to attack the tetras, something it had never done before. I did an emergency 60% water change to get the toxic Algaefix and algae out of the tank in the hopes of saving the remaining fish. Several days after the water change the remaining fish appeared to have recovered but given the death of one fish and erratic behavior of the others I don't believe the claim of "will not harm fish" is accurate. It is definitely toxic to fish and in some cases will kill certain species of fish. A quick web search verified that I'm not the only one that found this product toxic to their fish. Also, the second picture is just before treatment and the final picture shows the aquarium before I did the emergency water change. While Algaefix did remove some of my fish from the aquarium, it did a much less impressive job at reducing the algae problem. If you value your fish, I would recommend finding a less toxic solution for your algae problems. ... show more

  • Carefully followed instructions, still lost fish
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I carefully measured and used the product exactly as instructed. It started you could do a second dose three days later and that's when I lost one of my smaller fish and two more are unwell. I dosed carefully. I had a small algae issue after the water line fell just before the filter level, it helped a little bit but wish I had not done the second dose. ... show more

  • In one week I went from an algea jungle to a normal tank
Size: 4-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I had the worst algea problem. I'm using a 32-gallon biocube, and things got so bad, every few days I was pulling ropes of algea that were stringing from the top of the castle to the top of the tank. Entire decorations were coated. The gravel would be sporting what looked like an overgrown lawn. The fish weren't swimming through it, they were swimming around it. And I'd clean it and be back in that same mess 3 or 4 days later. No ammonia spike. My parameters were good. Just the sunlight hitting it funny in the morning hours I think. I was getting sunrise light permeating the tank. After just two doses of the stuff, I was back to normal algea growth. Yes, I need to clean the sides every week and the decorations once in a while, but I'm no longer taking out golf ball sized amounts of the stuff twice a week. The plants and the fish don't seem to care, except the fish are no longer dodging algea and the plants are no longer covered in it. I cleaned it all out before the first dose, and very little came back, but still more than normal. I cleaned it again before the second dose and the tank was good after that. The bottle says to take out the dead algea after the fact, but I think it's better to clean it in advance and not risk an ammonia spike. It's the same work either way, but your fish will be safer. Just, check the directions. This is a lot more concentrated than anything else I've ever used. I need less than half a capful for a 32. I'm used to a full cap for every 20 gallons. ... show more
