I always incorporate a bag of carbon in my filter media system for my reef aquarium. For the last year I’ve been using this activated carbon because it’s a good price and it’s a trusted brand. The carbon is an essential component of filtration because it’s so great at removing excess organic compounds from the water column. I’ve noticed it keeps the water clear, removes odors, cuts down phosphates, and it helps prevent chemical warfare between corals. I have approximately 40-50 different corals at any given time in my aquarium and most of them are steadily growing. So far I attribute a portion of my success due to running carbon as part of my aquarium maintenance schedule. I replace it about once a month because it does begin to lose effectiveness at around that time. While running carbon is just one small piece of the puzzle in successfully keeping a reef aquarium, I would say it’s an important one to stay on top of. ... show more

We have a couple of slider turtles, I use this in their water filtration system. Works great for us. It keeps their water clean and clear. Without this in their filter the water stays murky and yellow. This clears it up and lasts for a while.

Someone told me they put this in their cat litter and it kept it from stinking. It’s cheap enough so I ordered one, kept my same cat litter, clean it out daily, I put in a heaping table spoon of it if it smells foul. It really works. Try it out, it’s cheap enough and should last a long time.

I have used more expensive charcoal before in my “Guppy Tanks”, however keep coming back to Marineland. The product helps to clarify aquarium water and designed to remove toxic gases from the water in which we cannot see. Overall, I have found over many years of my hobby, raising Guppies, Marineland products are above average. Been using Marineland charcoal for many years and it is the best for clearing up water and eliminating odor. The pieces are relatively small so some may seep out of your container and you will have to rinse it well before placing in your filter system. It is a good value if you can buy it when it is on sale or some special promotion. I see a lot of other brands out there at way higher prices and claiming to be high grade or professional grade but if Marineland works and is at a lot lower price, why try another brand? ... show more
