My plumber did not follow the instructions and I was able to get it corrected with a great help from Mike and Hans at aquamotionhvac. The unit can be programmed but I don’t use the pump timer but rather have an Alexa plug that I control with routines and schedule. I highly recommend this product for anyone having a tankless water heater in need for timely hot water!

Installed really easily beneath my tankless water heater. Doesn't really make any noise at all, I can feel a slight hum when I hold my hand against it, so I know that it works, and I now have instant hot water in my guest bathroom at the other side of the house! And it doesn't have to be running for normal use of hot water, doesn't seem to add any restriction to my setup when it's unplugged, so I can be conservative with the timer and worst that happens is I have to wait a few seconds for hot water.

There is a bypass hose that connects the hot and cold water pipes at the tankless water heater. If you turn on a hot water faucet when the pump is not running, cold water will travel thru this bypass hose and combine with the hot water coming out of the water heater. This results in lukewarm water rather than hot. There needs to be a check valve on the bypass hose between the hot and cold pipes, so that the cold water does not mix with the hot. I had to purchase a check valve for another $30 to fix this problem. Search for T&S Brass 016419-25 3/8-Inch Compression Check Valve.

We purchased this pump to make it possible to get “instant” hot water throughout our house, especially at the faucets furthest from our hot water heater. It was far from inexpensive so although the listing said it was easy to install, we hired a local plumber to install it to avoid any issues. The installation went fine, and we tested before our plumber left. We were very pleased that we now had instant hot water at all our faucets. But…we didn’t think to check the cold water. We now have lukewarm water at best and warm to very warm water through the cold water pipes. Our plumber returned and spent hours trying to correct the issue, finally trying to call the customer support number on the literature included with the pump. No one answers that number. We then tried Amazon and a “specialist” called back and gave us different numbers for the company. Our plumber has been trying to get help using those numbers, to no avail. We are Prime members who purchase almost everything at Amazon and we’ve always been very pleased with the customer service we have received. But the last two major orders we have placed have not gone as expected. This one due to problems with the installation and lack of support, and one where we had a major issue with the delivery of furniture. Looks like Amazon’s service and support is deteriorating. Be careful what you purchase.

Well, I had this thing for 3 months. It worked well in the beginning. After three months, the motor started grinding. It still circulated but it was very loud and my hot water was yellowish brown. I called the number listed in the description and never got an answer. Just left several messages and never got a reply. I called AO Smith and they gave me a number to call. I called the number and they referred me back to AO Smith. I finally contacted Amazon. The best they could do is offer me a credit and I needed to buy the unit again. However, I cannot remove the unit until I get a new one. So, I have a credit from Amazon that I cannot use to buy a new one. Buyer Beware.

Item works as described, BUT. The help line does not return calls... I'm dealing with the tankless receiving hot water on the input side which throws an error code shutting down the tankless. It seems a thermal bypass valve would fix this, but only one is in the system, located at the furthest faucet from the tankless.

Take a bit of a time to install but quite simple. The description at times is overwhelmed and can be intidimated for the a novice. Though once you open the package, everything seems to make sense to install.
