For years we've been dealing with the hit or miss shades at the local Home Depot. Seems like at least 30% of them fail within a year or two so decided to spend the extra $20 or so on this shade. So far it does not disappoint. Yes, the price is a little more but considering the budget shades at big box stores are not that much cheaper, are flimsier and often fail, I think this product is worth the extra cost. It was easy to install and easy to adjust and we like the auto-up/stop feature. I can't really comment how much it really darkens the room since it's not in our bedroom but it does appear to block the light really well in our bathroom. Hopefully it gives us many years of good performance. When the next budget shade fails in our house, I will buy another one of these. ... show more

These shades worked out better than I ever expected them to. They are perfect for privacy and perfect for letting natural light in. Blinds get dirty so quick and are really hard to clean. These shades are easy to take down and are made of a nice vinyl that looks as though they'll be easy to clean when it's time to do so. Installation was a breeze; they were hung within minutes. They are easy to raise up and down and are really quiet. There is no cord in the way and nothing to get tangled up or off center the way blinds do. I love that there are several color options to choose from. The gray matched perfectly with the theme I was going for. The first picture is of the shades before adding curtains. The second picture is of the shades completely up so you can see how much light comes in behind the curtains. I installed these blackout roller shades to reduce heat in the summer and keep the rooms warmer in the winter. After two years of use and even reinstalling them in a new apartment, they continue to work extremely well and have noticeably improved the temperature inside my home. --- Performance / Testing These shades block sunlight very effectively and significantly reduce heat during the summer. In the winter, they help keep the cold out, making the rooms feel more insulated and stable in temperature. I have them installed above the window frame (not inside‑mount), and they still provide excellent coverage. They also helped lower my electricity bill because my central AC doesn’t have to work as hard. The blackout fabric performs well, but it can wrinkle if pressed or if objects lean against it. The wrinkles don’t affect function, but they are visible. --- Build & Design The design is simple, discreet, and blends easily with different room styles. The shade slides smoothly and is fully manual: you pull it slightly downward and it retracts on its own. It doesn’t make much noise when rolling up, though the pull handle does tap lightly when it reaches the top. The material feels durable, and after two years of use—including uninstalling and reinstalling during a move—the shades are still in very good condition. The shade includes a quick‑release feature, which is extremely useful for cleaning or maintenance. --- Installation Installation is straightforward, and the shade can be mounted above the window or even over existing blinds. The kit includes all necessary hardware, but you do need your own tools. They are also easy to uninstall and reinstall, which was helpful when I moved apartments. --- Daily Use Daily operation is smooth and reliable. These shades do an amazing job at room darkening. The fabric is thick, durable, and completely cuts out UV rays and direct sunlight. The cordless spring mechanism is very quiet and safe for my home. Installation was straightforward, but make sure to measure precisely! The actual fabric is about an inch narrower than the overall valance width to allow room for the hardware, which can let a tiny sliver of light peek through the very edges if you do an inside mount. It rolls very smooth and is easy to operate Light will still bleed through the sides and even the top because there’s a small gap between it and the wall due to the mounting brackets. However, I cut the cardboard box it came in and stuffed the gap with it. For the sides, I already have curtains that I left up. The curtains help press the shade against the wall. Good quality shade, good design. The clips went on without any problem. I bought the black light blocking variety, and I'd say in the fields it blocks maybe 95% of the light, but light gets in around the perimeter, which is not the fault of the shade. My only qualm with this item is that the outside of the shade is a gray, rather than a lighter off-white. It's going to absorb a lot of the sun's heat rays, which is not a good thing. ... show more
