  • Solid manual turntable for someone not looking to spend a lot
All in all, I am very pleased with my Angel's Horn Bluetooth turntable after a month of use. Just some background, I am new to the vinyl hobby. It all started with me receiving a Victrola suitcase player for Christmas thinking that would be "good enough" (figured I'd buy that odd record or two I see making comebacks in stores). Within two weeks, I traded up to this Angel's Horn turntable. (Anyone familiar with the suitcase players know there is nothing "good enough" about those suitcase players. With the suitcase player there was appalling sound -even with low expectations for a cheap player, and furthermore it couldn't play anything without skipping being a regular occurrence, all while potentially trashing your records with the poor uber-cheap stylus used.) This player, however, is a whole other story. Once set up properly (like a real turntable should be) with a balanced tone arm, the recommended 3.5g tracking force for the AT3600L stylus, and the anti-skate weight, this thing works like a dream. Yes, the included printed instructions are admittedly kind of bad and vague, but there are plenty of YouTube videos from the manufacturer along with other content creators, setting this turntable up, that make it easy for the uninitiated. Music sounds great through the Audio Technica cartridge/stylus, whether connected to a powered speaker with analog cables or via Bluetooth. All records play with no issue, with clear, beautiful sound, and no skipping. I have played new records, along with old records and 45s from the 60s/70s borrowed from family, and all have been perfect. For better (or worse depending on your stance) this is a full manual player, so you place the needle to start, and it does not automatically reset at the end of a record (though they were kind of enough to include an auto-shutdown of the turntable if it reaches the end of a record and isn't shut down after about 3 minutes. (Just flick power switch off and then back on when it's come to play something else) There are automatic players out there that might be more convenient and easier, but IMO I liked actually having to learn to set up and operate a turntable properly, so the manual nature of this turntable was no issue for me as to me it's just part of the experience. Overall, I am extremely pleased and have nothing to really complain about. This player works, sounds great, and looks very nice wherever it is displayed. This has kickstarted me full gear into the vinyl hobby, and now that my turntable situation is settled with a rock-solid player, I can get down to enjoying the music. 9/14/23 update- Just some thoughts after several months use. The turntable still holds up well. I did replace the AT3600L stylus with an ATN91 for a cheap sound upgrade, and for something that tracks much lighter on the vinyl. Some things I wish I understood better before I bought this- honestly, speed consistency isn't great on this turntable. After the first few weeks of listening and getting through the honeymoon period of a new device, I started noticing this sounded audibly a little fast. Upon using a smartphone speed checking app, I saw this was consistently going over 34 rpm. I then got into the whole world of speed adjustment (not a walk in the park on this thing, removing the six screws to remove a panel to get to the little screw you got to turn ever so gently underneath to adjust speed, and a LOT of trial and error. Ultimately, I got this set to around 33.3 and its much better/accurate sounding now- BUT this also has a lot of WOW and flutter- speed tests have this going anywhere from like 33.3 to 33.7 rpm and back to 33.3 within each rotation. Not good. That said, if I'm honestly, not sure if my ears really "hear" this problem but be aware. I also suspected at first maybe my phone app just being imperfect at measuring speed, but I put the same test on my dad's U-turn and that was pretty dead on at 33.3 at all times- so I think that speaks to the quality you get there. You ultimately get what you pay for. This is still pretty good as a cheap first turntable, and if you aren't scared of making adjustments and learning the intricacies of a manual device, but also part of me wishes I just invested a little more money into maybe a U-turn or a Fluance. ... show more

  • Angels Sing beautifully and quietly with some tweak!
Color: Walnut Wood
The media could not be loaded. I am a 72-year-old senior that's been around the block a few times when it comes to turntables. But I'm always on the lookout for a bargain. The product for the review here today on Amazon Angels horn HP002 turntable certainly fits that description! It is a wonderfully beautifully crafted wooden masterpiece. It may not be without flaws but they are minor in comparison to the end result which should always be just plain old kicking back and listening to the music. FUN!!! Now I received this particular model with the understanding that there was a damaged box involved. It was heavily discounted off of the Just slightly under $200 price tag. It was also the OO2 BT BLUETOOTHmodel with a dark undersized platter which I LUV and some audio snobs love to hate but the heavy platter although it may ring when tapped...it is silent when placed on the high density sub platter and bearing with no resonance allowed through the stiff felt mat which grabs the vinyl record perfectly. The heavy cast iron platter itself is properly coated with what appears to be a dark carbon fiber finish and believe me no audible unwanted noise gets through other than that which is already present in the groove itself. Although the kit itself and it is a "kit".. requires the owner to put it together in at least 10 steps. After unboxing the triple box unit.. I found no visible signs of damage even though I received a heavily discounted model at $132 Plus tax. One of the boxes had a dent. But in no way harmed the unit itself. Be careful unpacking all the parts including counterweight and tonearm anti-skating line. I now was ready to assemble this beautifully crafted wooden master piece! I must warn you that more than likely when you receive your model the tone arm will be very tight right out of the box. Somebody at the factory should check this before shipping this glorious turntable out!!! This is simply corrected by backing off on the three set screws on the tone arm's pivot Points.. one on top dead center and one on each of the gimbal suspension. Just back them off counterclockwise gently and ever so slightly and it will free up the tonearm which does seem to tight to balance properly on my model. Yours may very well be okay and you can skip this fix. . The Audio Technica AT 3600L is perfectly matched to this particular tonearm and sounds open, punchy, tight and three-dimensional with great amount of subtlety and detail! It sounded superb on my classic LPs like "Witches Brew" on RCA RED SEAL and "Breakfast In America" Supertramp A&M. It is only a tiny bit behind in quality and detail of my green U-Turn Orbit supplied with the AT 91B yellow carbon fiber stylus. BUT...The VOCALS and PERCUSSION sock it to baby!!! I also LUV the slightly undersized but very weighty black carbon fiber coated 10.5" iron platter so reminiscent of my old classic Dual 1218 which suffered damage during shipping from Eileson AFB, Alaska to home in NJ. Boo hoo!!! Geesh... the 002 Angerls Horn is half the price of my U-Turn Orbit which is a giant killer itself rivaling the big boys...Rega, Thorens, Clearaudio, Music Hall,, Audio-Technica and PROJECT DEBUT tables!!! I also had to tweak the tonearm's counterweight as there is a set screw on top and found myself tightening up just a wee bit on it so I could get an accurate balance and total tracking . Once I accomplished this and using an outboard digital tracking force gauge...I wound up with a total tracking Force of 3.3 grams which was perfect for this particular model. I did encounter a mishap with the delegate weight. Everything fishing line attached to the weight broke when I accidentally caught the loop and on a sharp part of the Angels Horn. Don't ask! Lol! Big clumsy old male senior with big old clumsy male hands lol! Young man placed a video on YouTube on how to fix this situation! A length of black thread and carefully Place small drop of super glue as a threat touched the top of the black weight. I let it set for about 2 hours! Angel Horn strives to have a pleasant technical support but they really need some Tweaking themselves in that department as it would be to their advantage to hire someone who can speak English language very well. After the 02 turntable was assembled and the dust cover was in place and the supplied alignment protractor was used to verify the factory setting of the stylus.. I found that 45 RPM dead on but the 33 1/3 was 2% fast. I post the question to support on how to adjust and lower the pitch of the 30th Street. So they seriously told me to take my Jewelers screwdriver and turn the adjustment screws located on the motor beneath the turntable under a black plastic panel clockwise to increase speed and counterclockwise to decrease it. Incidentally if you must adjust the pitch control as I had to there are two adjustments located on the bottom of the plinth marked "L" for the low speed 33 and "H" for the high speed 45. So in my case I was concerned with the control marked "L" LOWER SPEED...33. I found that This took me the better part of an entire afternoon! However in the end I wound up with perfect pitch on both speeds as evidenced by the supplied video. I wound up with what I considered to be way better than an entry level turntable. Incidentally...This turntable has a special feature whereas if you leave the table unattended with no signal through the RCA cables for more than fifteen minutes...it will shutoff automatically. DO NOT be alarmed like I was the very first time it happened on mine!!! It takes a litlle getting used to but all you have to do to remedy the situation is RESET the black rocker ON/OFF switch located on the LEFT REAR of this GLORIOUS MASTERPIECE. Once fully tweaked... I tested the ANGELS HORN using my personal reference "Professor Johnson's Astounding Sound Show" test record. It is a wonderfully entertaining but somewhat demanding 12" VINYL RECORD on Reference Recordings RR-7 that plays at 45RPM. The tonearm/cartridge combo displayed no signs of distress on either side of the disc and easily tracked all passages like a locomotive! The accuracy of musical timbre displayed through my Vogek monitor headphones connected to the Sabaj PHA-3 TUBE HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER was indeed quite astonishing rendering ultra quiet reproduction of the wide range of recorded instrumentation from deep bass pipe organ pedal to cymbal clashes to bass drum and midrange percussion to tubular bells!!! I came to the conclusion that the ANGELS HORN tonearm despite its shortcomings with more expensive carts...It was absolutely right at home with the higher-tracking less compliant Audio-Technica AT-3600L. All this ocurred with the built-in preamp in play! Do not listen to those who claim that all built-in phono preamps/amplifiers colorize the sound. I have both as numerous outboard separates and this particular built-in one. At least in this case the ANGELS HORN engineers obviously chose wisely in design it and beat out my other preamps. AND...IT IS ULTRA quiet and my favorite of the four turntables I have in rotation...The SL-2500 PROFESSIONAL DIRECT DRIVE, the U-TURN ORBIT BASIC and of course the ANGELS HORN. All are wonderfull but different in their own rite. I would heartily recommend the Angels Horn 02 turntable to anyone novice and Pro but with the reservation that you not upgrade or attempt an upgrade on the phone cartridge that is supplied as higher compliant more expensive styli tracking below 2 grams will not mate well with this tonearm!!! The tonearm and AT-3600L are well mated as a match made in Heaven!!! In the end the sound quality of this turntable is absolutely stunning!!! I am using the turntable with the built-in preamp hooked up with supplied rca patchcord to a nice tube headphone amp. After spending hours of listening enjoyment to records of many genres both old and new that sounded detailed and clean and phooey to those who claim coloration when doing so!!! . Both seasoned and new to the turntable Hobby will either LUV or hate it but regardless it is the proverbial diamond in the rough. LOL just quiet and the motor exhibits absolutely zero whine or hum. The only noise my unit makes is a slight creaking of the left dust cover hinge when I raise it and I think I can fix that. At its asking price this turntable is a sure winner and rest assured you could pay up to three times its price and not do any better!! Happy listening God bless! P J s 2 UPDATE 3/10/23...Even though the price has increased slightly, the 002 is still the best bang for your hard-earned buck and better than competing Retrolife and U-Turn models as I own them too. UPDATE 6.1.23 TOSS THE ANTI-SKATE!!! My experience and 1 year experience living with the Angels Horn gas proved to me that the anti-skate wight and rod are totally useless. In fact...it seems to ipede the tonearm's performance and could cause a nasty scratch as the tonearm nears the end of a record. The arm itself seems to have enough built-in natural anti-skating. This will also give you thr benefit of upgrading the stylus to the 90R or 91B stylus tracking superbly at 2 grams. You now can even upgrade the entire cartridge to the Ortofon 2M RED for even more DYNAMIC performance while tracking @ 1.8 gams! You will also experience higher OUTPUT. Now you have a truly superb machine while still maintaining reasonable cost. But do make sure to back off a bit on the three pivot points. ... show more

  • Great product, but the setup is challenging
Color: Walnut Wood
This is a really nice looking turntable with great sound quality. My only challenge with it is the initial setup. As someone with no prior experience with a record player other than the Fischer Price one I had as a child, I found setting up the arm really difficult. You are supposed to set the counter weight to a balanced position for the arm and then make smaller adjustments to put the appropriate weight on the needle. I followed the instructions to the letter, but don't think I ever got it set properly. There is also an anti-skate weight you are supposed to install on the tiniest of parts, which is impossible if you have big fingers like mine. I also don't think I ever got this installed correctly; having it on would pull the arm too far back toward the rest and overshoot the edge of the record as the arm was dropping for play. All of that said, once you get the needle on the record, the sound is fantastic and connecting to a BlueTooth speaker is super easy. ... show more
