New application to prevent rat, squirrel, and possum incursions. We have a redwood fence along our property line with 2x4s at the top along which rats and squirrels race and look down with greedy eyes on fruit trees and tomatoes within. They are smart and flexible creatures who can easily jump a few feet, but not if they can't see where to jump to. Without the barrier they can easily crawl over and down the fence to feast. Fortunately no tree limbs cross our fence line. So the solution was to attach 8 or 10 inch wide aluminum sheets 8 mils thick available in 50 foot rolls along the inside edge sticking up 6 or 8 inches above the top of the fence, which both blocks their view of what they covet, and prevents their leaping from their 2x4 race track atop the fence line. Nor can they scramble out and over the aluminum if they chance to get in some other way. Nothing to grip. Probably works for raccoons and the like. The aluminum is about twice the thickness a soft drink can, but can be easily drilled through with truss head 3/4 inch #8 black Phillips Snug screws to hold the aluminum in place. It hardly bends in the wind and stays in place. What they can't see they won't covet and couldn't get to anyway. It's a rather humane way to protect your crop from rodents without poison or traps. And easier than building a large netting cage. They might find some other ingression path, but this bars their sightseeing, and most easy entry path. They had stripped about half the peaches from our new peach tree before this remedy. Now no more incursions or lost fruit. Took only a few hours to install 200 feet of protection. Only caution is to wear gloves and it helps to have a helper and to gin up a pole to hold the roll at the correct height, maybe use PVC with a crossbar at the correct height. It unrolls easily so maybe put some double sided tape atop the crossbar to slow it from unrolling during installation. ... show more

    • Woodpecker problems solved
A woodpecker has been attacking my out building I cut pieces of this to cover the holes it has made in the building. After I paint you will have to look close to notice it is even there. The woodpecker knows it's there though. Not really the expected use of this product but it is working for me.

    • Beware if you aren't buying this for flashing
As flashing, I'm sure this stuff is perfect. It's light, it's easy to cut, and it's easy to handle (if you're wearing gloves). I, however, bought three rolls to weave into a decorative screen in my yard, and they weren't quite perfect for that. They came in two different shipments -- from different locations, I assume. The one roll that shipped by itself had a gold-colored backside and was 10 inches wide. The other two rolls were silver on both sides. They were shipped from somewhere else and one was 10 inches wide and the other was about 9-7/8 inches wide. The differences added up to some fairly minor cosmetic concerns, I guess, but I subtracted a star for that. ... show more

Not real thick, but that makes it easy to form around corners, etc. The screws did wrinkle it a bit.

Product was much thinner than flashing you would find at lowes or Home Depot. I would have to estimate that the thickness is about 4 sheets of kitchen foil paper
