My American Standard Enclosed Trap toilet was quite a few years old & the seat broke off the bolts. Apparently there were improvements made to the model since my purchase. After checking on American Standard's website their FAQ said I could order this one. Now it can be easily removed for cleaning and it has a slow close lid!!! Anyway, I was at a loss on how to remove the old one - NO, AMERICAN STANDARD never answered my question -so this 70 year old grandma tuned to YouTube and pulled out her tools. An Allen Key is needed to both remove old bolts and install the new ones. NO, AMERICAN STANDARD did not include one with the new seat and the old/new needed different sizes. But thankfully I had both sizes in my kit. 10 minutes later I had a new, slow closing seat that can be removed for cleaning. Yippee Skippee!! As good as American Standard's website is if they don't FAQ what you need don't expect an answer. That's the only part of my review that I would give less that 5 stars.

I needed to replace a couple of toilet seat lids that had cracked for some unknown reason. The original seats and lids are no longer available and this is the replacement product. That means it has a slightly different design and installs differently from the original. I thought I would just launch into the replacement and was frustrated by the initial difficulty. But, I neglected to carefully read the included installation instructions. Once I did, the installation went smoothly and quickly. So, my advice to non-plumbers is that this is a good product that installs easily if you read the directions and follow them. Simple advice, I know, but I'll bet there are plenty of guys like me who don't bother. In this case, though, it really made a difference.

I ordered this toilet seat and cover. When we went to install it it had a different “connector” so we used the new connector that came with the seat and all was installed in no time at all. Very easy and simple to replace.

I'm replacing an American Standard toilet seat because it shifts from side to side. So I bought the $80 version hoping "you get what you pay for". Nope. This one also shifts from side to side. It does not quite fit the shape of the 2016 American Standard toilet I bought it for. Slightly narrower. I odered it because it was pictured on the exact toilet I have. The seat itself is also narrower and flatter than the one I am replacing. I find it uncomfortable. It is not hard to install, but the directions make it seem difficult. If you buy it, set them aside and use your own logic. I will call American Standard to see if there is an option to replace the rubber gasket that the seat screws go into. The top of the "gasket" is wobbly, like rubber is...and therefore, I can't get a good tight fit to the toilet seat, and it quishes side to side. I assumed this more expensive seat would fit tighter and be easier to clean, but it does not fit tight, so will need constant cleaning. Because of the sleek design of the toilet, I must do a top mount. I regret that. I've replaced lots of toilet seats in my long life, but never have had reason to review one - until now.

UPDATE, UPDATE I glued the rubber bumpers into the lid and the obnoxious crackling/creaking sound is eliminated. UPDATE After months of use there are things I don't like about the seat so I came back to update my rating. I'll note that I've made sure everything was tight but still have issues with both seats I have installed. First, every time you sit down the seat makes a plastic flexes and makes a crackling noise. Sounds like you're SHARTING. I weight 150lbs, this shouldn't be an issue. Second, the rubber bumpers that come in contact with the porcelain rim are wearing and the finish starting to discolor. Looks dirty. I think this issue is contributed to the quick release feature. This makes for a wiggly seat. ORIGINAL REVIEW I had initially ordered a less expensive, higher rated slow close seat for my American Standard toilets only to find that the white seat color didn't match the toilets. I ordered these and the slight off-white color matches perfectly. The quality is very nice though I assume the quick release feature is the primary reason for the higher cost and i'm not sure it's important for my needs. The seats are good quality, high sheen finish that looks high end and goes well with the porcelain. They also seem to stay cleaner than the stock seats that came with my toilets.

This is the best toilet seat ever. I have installed several over the decades. You can fasten it on from the top rather than having to reach under the toilet to tighten the screws. A nice feature for us old folks so we don't have to get down on the floor. It has rubber gaskets around the screws so that when tightened, the rubber grips to the holes making a tight connection. It also has a bridge between the screws to keep it stable. Slip the decorative cap on and push the toilet seat on the pins. Doesn't slip and slide around and it is super easy to remove to clean too. Pricey, but worth every penny.

The best thing about this is that it fits my toilet and looks like it belongs. My toilet is an American Standard. I don;'t know if people are using this for other brands or not. For what it is, it might cost a little more than I'd like, and it closes a little slower than I'd like, but it beats the heck out of the loud crack from a dropped toilet seat. I'd buy it again.

The media could not be loaded. This is the bathroom for my 4.5 year old twin girls. They ended up breaking the original seat. This replacement is actually better than the original, plus it comes with the “slow close” feature which the original lid did not have. Woo Hoo….no more slammed toilet lids. It’s the small things, sure all you parents can appreciate.
