Does not have a long enough slot for standard envelopes. Here's the thing. If you like to shred the obvious credit card offers that come in your mail without wasting time opening them, they won't fit in the slot for them to be shredded horizontally. So you put it in vertically, and then you can read almost full lines after it's been through, though making it even less secure than a strip cutter shedding machine does. Also, sometimes it doesn't even cut all the way through. I found this is because there's a staple. The description says no need to remove staples.. Sure, but it you want it to shred it, then you need to. Also, you have to pull the paper through the back manually. For whatever reason, it doesn't leave the device until the next sheets are being put through, making removal of shredder to empty the trash can a bit messy. Credit cards (one at a time). Didn't cut through. CD's.. didn't test that feature. Hubby said just microwave them. Lol ... show more

This is my first review on Amazon, but i think it’s required given my dissatisfaction with this product. I would not recommend this product if you will be shredding documents on a weekly basis. I have been using this shredder for home use for the past 2 months. Maybe 10-20 papers each week. I have found that the papers get jammed a lot and for whatever reason I’m unable to put a document down the middle of the shredder, I have to fold it up and shove it in on one of the sides. I have spent more time trying to jammed documents i jammed. I only bought this shredder because I didn’t want to spend more money compared to the others and it seemed like reviews were decent. Prior to this shredder I had a different one that lasted 10 years and never gave me any trouble, but unfortunately it died. Pro’s - small/compact, easy to tuck it away - price Cons - it says it can shred 8 papers at once, but I don’t believe it. Maybe the first 2 or 3 times but after that it won’t shred the documents or you will have to push the forward/reverse buttons over and over to get it to shred. In the beginning I would put 3-4 papers at once and it did fine, but now I’m only shredding one piece of paper and it gets jammed. ... show more

I've crunched through about 500 CD's/DVD's and several hundred papers and it is still working like it did on day one. If you get to aggressive or run it too fast for too long it will shut itself off for 8-10 minutes until it completely cools down. So be aware that if it suddenly stops and appears to be broken, feel the top to the left of the main switch. This area will be very hot, but not so much that it burns your hand. Turn it to off (the middle position) and let it sit for awhile. It's a safety feature, and it works very well, just be aware that it is not broken. The trash can it comes with fills up quick and could be larger, but I can't knock the shredder, especially since the right side as you are looking down on it expands so you can put it on a larger trash can such as a rectangular kitchen trash can. ... show more

Great for price. I shredded a box full of papaers last night and 2 credit cards. Worked great. No jams, didn't overheat. A little loud but doesn't bother me. It struggled with 5sheets. I didnt want to push it. 3 pages is good, goes right through. Recommend for simple home use of junk mail and the like. ... show more

I absolutely love the fact that I am able to shred multiple documents at once, at a quick-pace, which was a huge selling point for me, and the ability to do so, without removing staples, is even more convenient! While I have not tried the maximum of 8-sheets at once, it has been able to successfully shred up to six documents, at once, with ease, and incredibly fast. I also value the ability of having both an auto-start option, as well as manual reverse, to clear out any possible jams. In the past, I have had shredders that cost 2-3 times the cost of this one, and they didn’t even compare to the level of quality that this offers. They actually burnt out, very quickly, as I have a high-amount of paperwork that needs to be shredded, continuously, throughout my work-week. While this paper shredder is able to accommodate the destruction of paper, and card stock, on a 2-minute continuous run-time, I also appreciate the ability to be able to effectively shred, and demolish, both credit cards, store cards I no longer use, and even CDs! In addition, I am also extremely impressed by the size of this paper shredder, as it’s not too large, and fits absolutely perfectly within my printer-station, cart, among both my inkjet, and laser printers. Overall, I am thoroughly happy, pleased with my purchase, and also have the pleasure of being able to rely on the AmazonBasics 1-year limited warranty, should any issues arise. However, so far, I have had absolutely no issues whatsoever when using this product. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a perfectly sized, sturdy, yet lightweight paper shredder for both home, and office, use. Debating if I should return this shredder and buy a different one, considering this one jams pretty easily although I’m not shredding more than a few pages of printer paper at once (max is 8 pages). Another con - the shredding isn’t very confidential. You could probably tape the shredded document strips back together like in that episode of That’s So Raven. I expected more from AmazonBasics since a lot of their other stuff has been great.. I use this shredder at most once a week for a few minutes to shred documents from my home office so not sure if it’d be worth it for me to spend more money on a better quality shredder, might just deal with the jams. ... show more
