Great quality and structurally sound

**Very well-built spreader and likely the last one I’ll ever need.** Yes, it’s expensive, but the all-stainless-steel construction makes it feel like a long-term investment. I expect this one to last for many years, if not decades. As many others have mentioned, the instructions are difficult to follow and could definitely be improved. Once you get it set up, though, it performs very well. The large wheels roll smoothly across my yard, the handles are plenty tall, and the spread pattern is even and consistent. It is a fairly large spreader and isn’t particularly easy to store, but I think that’s also part of what makes it so durable. There are very few unnecessary moving parts, which means fewer things to wear out or break over time. If you have a larger yard (over 0.5 acres), use a spreader frequently, or simply want something you expect to keep for decades, I think this is a worthwhile investment. It’s expensive, but the build quality and durability make it worth considering.

Will last a lifetime!

This is a very heavy duty spreader that should last a lifetime. It is large capacity, so I will be able to cover my lawn faster. The directions for putting it together were not very direct. So it took longer than it should have to put together. It does a nice job of evenly distributing fertilizer and is fairly lightweight (for moving around).

Insane quality!

The contractor version of this spreader is an example of "you get what you pay for". I upgraded from a very popular spreader that I had nothing but problems with. It was small, the adjustment/dispersion mechanism was hard to use correctly, the spread pattern was uneven, it was very unergonomic, but it cost about 1/6 of this spreader. Enter the Chapin stainless steel contractor spreader. One assembled, the construction is incredible. Almost every part is made of stainless steel. The adjustment mechanism is very robust. The spreader is a joy to push around the yard. It handles seeds, fertilizer, pretty much everything I've thrown at it so far. The wheels are huge and ride very smooth across my yard. The handles reach plenty high. The spread pattern is even and works very well. Now on to some of the downsides. The biggest downside was the assembly process. The instructions were not very good. On top of that, the assembly process took a very long time. It probably took me a good 2-3 hours to assemble this thing. If I had to build a few of them at once, this wouldn't be as big of a deal. I would strongly recommend using a driver speed up the process of getting the bolts tightened. The other downside (which is also an upside) is that it's quite large and isn't particularly easy to store. It doesn't fold down in any way to make it easier. However, this is also part of the reason this thing will last forever. It doesn't have moving parts where it's not necessary. While the assembly process was painfully long, my pain quickly dissappated the first time I pushed it. This is a buy-it-for-life product. It will cost more, but I don't feel that the price is unreasonable over its life-span. If you have a small yard and don't use a spreader often, I think it's hard to justify the constractor model unless you really want a bullet-proof spreader. If you have a bigger yard (>0.5 acres), use your spreader often, or know you will use this for decades, I think this can be a good investment.
