He says it works great & his room is always cold when i go in there. makes odd hissing sound when it kicks on to start cooling but that’s it. his room is small 8x8 & hit with sun most of the day. Important to note he turns it on early in the day- unsure if it cools a super hot room down quickly. I will update my review when we try it. ... show more

Overall I am very happy with this unit. When I was researching 6000 BTU ACs it seems that across all major brands the ratings are 7% 1 star and 70% 5 star. Some were DoA, and others did not work in the second year. As such, I purchased this unit with the 3 year Asurion warranty and hope not to have to use it. This AC was the least expensive of it's class and I have had good results with other Amazon Basics products. I am a 60 year old man and quite handy, but have never purchased and installed a window AC. Pros: Great price, fast delivery (when in stock) and returnable Great efficiency (CEER 12.1) Relatively light Cons: Installation instructions and documentation are not well written and lacking in detail Reference to vinyl window installation not apply to current US windows My installation approach: Knowing that ACs have some DoA (dead on arrival) instances, I carefully unpacked the unit (double boxed) and tested it on a table. After I was sure it was working, I then to installation. I noticed that the bottom rail appeared wider than the slot width of my vinyl window. Sure enough it was, the slot wide is 1 3/16" and the bottom support bar is 1 3/4". After test fitting and seeing if any other mounting options were possible, I realized the only way to do this was to mount it in the bottom slot of my window. After pondering on several work arounds, I realized that the accordion shutter width was 1 1/8 ". So, I cut the trailing edge of the bottom rail using a 3" cut-off tool down to 1" and cleaned up the sharp edges. After the cutting procedure the install continued perfectly and exactly as I had hoped. My 121 square foot room was at 81 degrees at 6:30 PM and cooled down to 73 degrees by 9:30. People that think 6000 BTU unig provides instant cooling need to understand that rooms and the items in them have thermal mass that takes time to cool down. The best approach to keeping a room cool is to start the AC at your set temperature and let it keep the room from heating up rather than cooling it down after it is hot. Admittedly I have no experience with other brands of windows ACs, however I do have standard high efficiency double paned windows and feel that you should be able to install window AC unit without modification. If you installing in a aluminum framed window be prepared to make trial and error adjustment for a proper install. The first thing I noticed in instructions it was desinged for wood or vinyl windows. I got it installed and it cool great.

This is a piece of crap. Not powerful at all and it takes forever to blow cold air. Ran it for four hours and the room was still hot and humid. Waste of money and no returns !!!!!

    • Cools Well, But Has Major Flaws

The Good: It does a great job of cooling my office. The Bad: LOUD: So noisy that my colleagues can hear it during conference calls. THUDS ON STARTUP: Makes a jarring * Thud every time the compressor kicks on. INEFFICIENT: It's a true power hog. It causes my lights to flicker, and my electrician measured it pulling almost 1850 watts. Picked up an LG and it cool just as well and only pulling 700 Watts. Verdict: I would not purchase this again or recommend it for anyone working from home or concerned about their power bill. ... show more

Honestly works so great. We have a REALLY old house with no central air conditioning so we have to have ac units in basically every working window in the house, and before this one we had an even bigger more expensive one that genuinely could not keep up with the heat even in combination with the 3 others running, and we bought this one a few weeks ago and couldnt work better, its been so nice and cool! ... show more

Price for quality is unmatched, im still using this to this day, the display is easy to see and the buttons are easy to understand and the seal foam is great! the remote can reach very far away and is easy to use and understand with the digital display on it! cools a big room in a short amount of time! the eco mode is great to save energy and still keep the room cool. i would definitely order another if i need one i wont look elsewhere because this is an amazing AC unit. ... show more
