I was on the fence about getting this because we have central air and heat. The house we bought a couple years ago has a brand new one put in after we purchased the house. BUT, our primary bedroom is the last room to get air, so our bedroom is always 10-20 degrees hotter than the rest of our home. We also live in Texas, so our summers are super hot and humid. I'm so glad I purchased this! It makes our bedroom perfect now. It's nice and cold now like the rest of the house. I hate the way window units look normally, but this one isn't bad at all. I actually like the small size. It's small enough to just close the curtains in the winter/fall and you won't even know it's there. Thankfully, our bedroom windows face the backyard, so the neighbors don't have to ever look at it. It was also affordable. I'll have to get better pictures of it soon. ... show more

Sometimes, less is more, especially when it comes to cooling a single room. I picked up the Amazon Basics 5000-BTU Small Window Air Conditioner specifically for my bedroom, and it has proven to be the ideal workhorse for targeted cooling. While it doesn't boast built-in Wi-Fi, its simplicity is actually its biggest strength for my particular use case: full automation through Home Assistant. Installation was a breeze – truly one of the easiest window units I've ever dealt with. It's lightweight and the adjustable window kit made for a snug fit in minutes. Once it was in, I plugged it into a smart plug, which is the secret sauce to my setup. Paired with motion and temperature sensors in Home Assistant, this little unit is now fully automated. It only kicks on when someone is in the room and the temperature crosses my comfort threshold. This means no wasted energy cooling an empty room, and I walk into a perfectly chilled space every time. I only wish I could somehow turn the fan down when it turns on overnight since it works a little too quickly The 5000 BTUs are absolutely perfect for my bedroom's size (under 150 sq. ft.). It cools down the space quickly and effectively. Awesome, cheap, and effective. My room is about 120 sq ft, so 5000 BTU is enough. My dad and I were able to assemble and install it in around 15 min. Installs very securely, and blows nice and cold air. My room noticeably cooled down in about 10 min. Only downside is that it's a bit noisy, but I'm mostly saying that because my desk is right next to the window. But I can also hear it when my room door is open and I'm down the hall. But for the price, I can't complain too much. Overall, great AC unit for the price. I'll update if anything happens in the future. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The last one I had was the midea, which is around the same price and actually lasted two seasons before the compressor went. I’ve had many Amazon products over the years, so I thought why not especially since the price was so good. This is my first night using it at the time I’m writing this review so I may update it in the future. When I first turned it on, I admit it wasn’t cold at first, and I was a little concerned…. But about 30 seconds later…. Ice ice baby!!! it feels amazing. I can’t talk about the cleaning yet because the filter is brand new, but just like the other ac I had it. It’s very basic you pull out the filter you wash it out in the sink and then you put it back in so I don’t think that’ll be a problem. It did not come with a remote control, which is fine anyway because I hooked it up to an Alexa outlet so whenever I say “Alexa, turn on the air conditioner” it immediately comes on at the setting. I left it previously, and if I say turn it off, it shuts off.. as far as the noise? Honestly, it’s very quiet it reminds me of white noise you know the kind of sound you use for sleeping. This is actually a lot quieter than the other one. I’m really surprised. Amazon basic products are definitely getting better…. But again this is my first night if next year it’s still working and the year after that in the year after that believe me, I’ll update it and make this an even better review but if it breaks in a short amount of time, I’ll update the review either way right now I’m in heaven and I’m going to sleep. Goodnight! 😁 update: I just bought my second one. I really love it. Yes it’s true. It does not blow out cold at first so you must be patient. Don’t sit there turn it on and be like why isn’t it blowing cold? Give it about a minute, maybe even 2 to 3 minutes but when it starts blowing cold, oh yeah, it gets cold. … ... show more
