I have six Amazon Smart Plugs and they worked fine until I updated to a new mesh router. All of my Alexa devices connected no problem to the new router on an IoT 2.4 GHz subnetwork. But the little Amazon Smart Plugs did not. After days of trying and having Amazon technical support claiming the plug was defective and sending new ones (3), I gave up. But I ordered instead Amazon Basics Smart Plugs. These worked right away and connected just like my other Echo, Dot, wall switches. So, there is something technical which prevents the Amazon Smart Plugs from working on a newer network. Try the Basics Smart Plug.

So there are two smart plugs. One flagship Amazon smart plug and these Amazon Basics smart plug. I suspect as others have noted about the phenomenon that there must be some competition to market with Amazon products as we see more and more Amazon Basics stuff these days and most of us are very pleased with Amazon Basics enough so that the price for the flag ship product makes these look enticing because of quantity, value and price. While us petty consumers will really never know how to truly tell if the IOT smart plug phase will pan out for us that chose to spend money on the cheaper Amazon Basic plug vs the Amazon flagship product. We are all taking a risk on trying to determine which will last long term and which will remain in our households and be compatible with all the rest of our IOT smart devices but for me I chose this plug and it just works right out of the box with the rest of my Amazon home automation like echo dots and other alexa devices. I even had a chance to pre provision the device before it got to my house! That is cool and a really awesome idea especially those that would order in bulk and don't want to configure hundreds+ of these one at a time. Good on ya for thinking ahead. I choose to spend my money on these as they fit the bill and when off consume only about .5W at 110V AC. These are used in my office, and anywhere where big draws of power are occurring in my house so that I can set them up on a schedule (supported by alexa out of the gate) and turn the plugs on and off during peak, mid peak and off peak hours as needed to save extra money. I even use these on my solar batteries when I may be away from home.

I have one plugged into my Woozoo fan, when i say Alexa turn the fan on, she wont do it. but when i say Alexa turn the fan off, she does it. Maybe im doing something wrong, or maybe the Woozoo fan is not allowing it. Dunno

Well, these make life much easier I control them on Alexa so all I have to do is ask her to turn them off and on and the app functions perfectly They seem to be built very well, and I believe that they will last quite a while. I was able to connect them to Alexa fairly easily. Once I learned how to do it the connected perfect I have two swag lamps on their are plugged in behind pieces of furniture, which is intentional. These work great ! All I have to say is Alexa turn on the Gold lamp

These smart plugs work extremely well with Alexa. Just plug them into the socket and ask Alexa to find new devices. It only takes a few seconds for Alexa to find them and add them to your devices. You can add them to the room/group of your choice and simply tell Alexa to turn them on or off. I installed a couple on my plant lights and set a routine for Alexa to turn them on in the morning and off at night. No more messing with timers! I absolutely love these.
