A nice, basic filter. I don't know how well it works, but I can say that we have salty water here and this removes that hint of salt in the taste of our public water supply. It is easy to install, and it holds up just fine in our outrageous summer temps. Because they are so inexpensive, I can replace them every 6 months without thinking I haven't gotten my money's worth.

Do engineers ever test their products?

Grrr.... I have bought the same type of filter in a few different brands and they all possess the same irritating design flaw. Price, excellent Simplicity in design, perfect Function..... Ooops TESTING??? The male end of the stupid thing is just a little too short compared to a hose which the whole system is based on. With a hose.... At the end of the threads on the male end... the remainder maintains the same outer diameter of the threaded section and sometimes is even narrower. On many female fittings the leading edge of the fitting bottoms out on the filter portion of the device instead of male bottoming out in the female and then sealing... With this happening the male doesn't make it in far enough to seal and it doesn't get the job done (just going to ignore such an opportune time for some cheap humor.... Maybe I'm just not up to it) this can be solved sometimes depending on the players (hose, rv fitting, filter, splitters etc.) with a second bib washer but be prepared for leaks AND AGAIN EVEN ON THE FEMALE END DEPENDING ON THE PLAYERS ESPECIALLY WITH NEWER HOSES WITH THE BIG MACHINED FITTINGS. If you get past all of that bs..... It's a fine filter..... It definitely knocks your water pressure down a reasonable but noticeable amount... Can't imagine how to avoid it using any filters. Other than the proceeding issues.... An obviously simple and effective filter at a great price.

Great as Part of a Multi-Filter Setup – Spot-Free Results

I like washing my vehicles year-round, but from about February through November, the hot sun dries everything too fast and usually leaves water spots—especially on darker vehicles. After trying a few different setups, I ended up using these Amazon Basics inline water filters as part of a larger filtration system, and they’ve made a noticeable difference. Water Taste: The water smells clean and even tastes better than what I remember from years ago. No odd odors at all. Fit: Fits standard garden hose connections without any issues. Everything threads on easily and seals well. Size: Compact and easy to incorporate into a longer filter chain. I currently run about an 8-foot setup using multiple filters connected together. Ease of Use: Very simple—just connect inline with your hose system and you’re good to go. No complicated setup required. Compatibility: Works perfectly with other filters in a multi-stage setup. I use two of these after a sediment filter and before additional filtration and deionizing filters. Water Transparency: Big improvement. On a hot, sunny day, I can let my dark gray truck and black motorcycle air dry with no water spots, which was impossible before. I don’t expect a single filter to solve everything, but as part of a layered filtration system, these work really well. So far I’ve washed three vehicles about five times each, and they still seem to be performing like new. Overall, these are a great addition to a multi-filter setup if you’re trying to reduce spotting and improve water quality without investing in a full home system.

Excellent product and value

For the value, you are getting an excellent in-line filter for personal, pet, or gardening needs. I tested the chlorine specifically for my needs to ensure that it was performing well. My initial test came back with 0.04 residual which is basically nothing. All public water systems are regulated to provide a minimum of a 0.20 chlorine residual to people's tap. So for a filter to remove that much chlorine is excellent! It is up to you to research whether your water utility uses chlorine or chloramine. This filter does not remove chloramine. Important to note if you plan on using this filter for gardening and/or making compost teas.

Short lifespan on well water

They clogged up & were within 2 weeks on well water spigots. I usually get a mo out of the other brand so was a lil disappointed. Maybe they work great to filter water off a municipal water supply but not well water.

Great help for spotless car wash
I live in a town with hard water and washing my car is a hassle along with TX heat. 100+ degree weather and hard water are not friends with a black car. Trying to find a method to reduce hard water and minerals I saw several car wash filtration systems costing $130 plus. Of course that was way out of my price range. I stumbled across these inline filters. While they are not a water softener they do help to remove a lot of the minerals in the water and gave me a MUCH easier time washing my car in the direct sun. Yes you still have to ensure you wash/dry one panel at a time but any spots that appear I was able to quickly take care of (I did this as an extra step to prevent water spots). I attached it to my garden hose by taking a short hose I had, hooking it up to the inline filter and then attaching a longer hose to the other end of the filter. This prevented me from knocking the filter around on my driveway possibly damaging it as well as putting strain on my faucet. I did not drink any water from the filter so I cannot attest to it's ability to change it's flavor. I'm very happy with my purchase. I got the 4 pack and will be attaching 2 to the cold and hot lines on my washing machine to see if this has any affect on washing my clothes. To prevent strain on the connections of your washer purchase a pair of new hoses for your machine. Disconnect the old ones only from the back of your washer, connect it to the filter and connect the new ones to the filter, then the back of your washer. Bam! A filtration system for your washing machine. If you're looking for a cheap alternative to HELP with (not eliminate) water spots while washing your car, try this out before purchasing one of those expensive filtration units.
