  • Great filter, light weight, and flavor/smell never an issue. Kept us safe and hydrated.
Style: Gravity Water Filter Straw/1
This water filter was awesome easy and light weight to carry on a week long trip with my daughter on Isle Royale. There are only a cpl places on the island to get drinking water off tap, you must have filters to get drinking water when back country. Packed easily into my bag, and allowed us to carry 2, 24 oz “Smart Water” sport bottles ea. Didn’t even touch our Sawyer Mini filters we’d taken as back up. Bag opening is easy to fill and close. Only issue, when bag is rolled closed it was not totally leak proof. Awareness to watch for drips into clean water. The bag/filter when hung, provided full 20 oz bottles in short time, maybe two mins to fill our bottles. Cleaned each day as directed. Remember the bag provided for cleaning! We had no issues at all. Took a little bit of space as it’s a rubber bag with long tube with a filter that is for sure longer than a Sawyer filter. Function and provided fast, clean water with ease. beat any space/weight concerns I had initially. Clean, clear water that had no taste issues at all. Pulled water from Lk. Superior and multiple inland lakes. Never an issue and flavor never a problem. Seemed clearer then the tap from Rock Harbor. Awesome product, for sure recommend. Filters are rather large, note the specs given from manufacture. Just be aware of space it does take up. We had no issues even with carrying Swayer minis as back ups. We never used them. 5 nights, 45 miles wandered. Thanks for keeping us with healthy, clean water. ... show more

  • Does exactly what it says on the bag!
Style: Gravity Water Filter Straw/1
Worked like a champ! I bought this because I found myself making multiple trips to the river to fill up Nalgene bottles, So it serves as a water storage bag (for washing/cleaning utensils) as well as filtering. Packs away into practically nothing and I used the main water bag to store the filter, hose and mini bag when storing it in the backpack. In terms of ease of use, the included strap comes in handy when you're carrying a full bag back to camp and you can use the same strap to attach the system to a tree. After running a few bottles worth of water through the filter before first use, The filtered water tasted perfectly normal. Up until now, I've always used my Katadyn Hiker pro, but this is a great option if you want the storage capacity and filtration system all in one! Comes highly recommended! ... show more

  • Make sure to test ahead of time!
Style: Gravity Water Filter Straw/1
I bought this for a 6-day backpacking trip through Yosemite. It worked well and filled all four of our water bottles the entire time. It was easy to use, didn’t take too long & was lightweight for traveling. I also really loved the extra pouch that came with it because I was able to clip it on the outside as “just incase” water. However, I had to order this product twice because the first time I ordered it - the seal wasn’t secure and it leaked. i’m really glad I tested it out before hand. Second, the extra water pouch it comes with did rip right where it attached to the clip and ripped the whole bag making it useless. I would recommend this product but handle with care and make sure it’s properly functioning before taking it out. ... show more

  • effective but kinda slow
Style: Gravity Water Filter Straw/1
filtered 5 gallons in an hour. The trick is to the screw on a clean plastic walmart water bottle to the filtered end of the straw. Attached tube to the full bag which bag hung from truck door handle, let it flow to get air out of tube, then attach tube to straw. Keep bottle low so gravity is stronger. Once the walmart bottle is full, unscrew it and dump the filtered water into a CLEAN Nalgene bottle. Repeat. That way you don't have to stand there holding the straw and dribble water into a clean bottle. Wash hands first and keep your hands clean. We never got sick from this filtered water. ... show more

  • Excellent customer service!
Style: Gravity Water Filter Straw/1
I love this product because it has a 1.5 gallon bag that is easy to fill in one second from a lake, pond, river, spring. It's a few ounces heavier than some of the other ultrafiltration options, but it is sooo worth it. After all, at camp you are going to need more than 32 oz of filtered water per day! 1.5 gallons is much more reasonable, and you only have to fetch water once per day. You just scoop up 1.5 gallons, roll the top shut, then sling it over your shoulder as you walk back to camp. Then the water gravity feeds from the bag, through the filter, into either the provided drinking sack, or any container you provide. It's easy to use and the provided directions are clear. About the customer service: The first one I got had a manufacturing defect. the little gray plastic elbow that connects the 1.5 gal bag to the hose was blocked, probably due to flashing left over from the manufacturing process. I emailed Waterdrop Filter and they sent me a new one immediately and without hassle. This was wonderful. (I failed to try out the product prior to backpacking, and so discovered the blockage on the trail. Note to self: always try out gear at home before setting out.) This is the kind of customer service that makes me a fan. Sure, there will be problems. But when a company stands behind its product, I stand up for the company. I contrast this customer service with another Amazon purchase from a well-known company that sold a bladder that had a manufacturing defect. I wrote them a detailed email. Got an auto-reply promising 3-5 day response. About 9 days later I got an email, telling me to fill out a warranty claim form, etc, etc. The reply didn't even address the diagnostic data I provided. My confidence in the product sank. What did I do? I returned the product to Amazon. Thank goodness for the 30-day Amazon return policy! But back to Waterdrop: They stood behind the product and supported it. In this day and age of increasingly high technology, product support becomes as important as the product itself. ... show more

  • Dependable and quick drip considering the alternative and system.
Style: Gravity Water Filter Straw/1
This system and accessories worked awesomely over two backpacking trips. It outperformed comparable life-stray systems in functionality and design. The filter had a good drip stream that was reasonable. These systems are more passive systems that do not require pumping and work well if you are not in a hurry to fill up your container. I would recommend this brand and design. ... show more
