Overall: Good value; arrived in 2 days with Amazon prime; box had minimal damage; sturdy; looks good; thinking about buying another. Perfectly reasonable shelving for most household needs. It lists as supporting 500 lbs per shelf. I may be unique, as beyond my car in the garage, there are very few things in my house that are that heavy. Of those that are, I really don’t think I would be trying to put them anywhere else than on the floor - see “reasonable” above. Assembly: Actually pretty simple. You do not need 2, or even 3 people to put it together, as some reviewers have said. The first vertical requires you to prop it against a wall, but that is all. I am a male who was not blessed with any mechanical skills, but I got it together with no cursing or bashed knuckles, as others have reported. Don’t put it together at 11 o’clock at night, or the neighbors will complain - it is aluminum and the parts fall out of the box and sound like the local church bell going off. Plus, you have to tap the side braces together with a hammer - back to the church bell. It is actually designed pretty well and the parts fit. Considering I had originally planned to build wooden shelves for my garage, I would still be trying to get the wood home from the store. Instead, I am calmly drinking my tea and watching the game. The little nuts/bolts that others have complained about are indeed small and somewhat awkward to use, but in the grand scheme of life, not worth getting all bent out of shape over. It takes a second to line up the holes and a couple of tries to get the nut on. All fit. A Phillips head screwdriver works just fine with a small pair of pliers on the other side. Time: The reviewers who said it took 15 minutes, or 30 minutes to assemble, must live in the time compression zone of a black hole, as it took me 15 minutes just to unpack the parts. That does not include the 5 minutes to crawl around on the carport to find the little screws that had come loose in the box. Similarly, the folks who took several hours, must have taken a coffee break every 10 minutes to spend that much time. As noted above, my skills tend to be somewhat south of Neanderthal, yet I had it together by the time my wife came looking for me to start my next honey-do. I was impressed at how easily it came together, when compared to other “simple to assemble” products on the market. Total time of assembly for me from cutting tape on box to brewing tea - 1 hour 33 minutes and 24 seconds - I used a stopwatch, just to compare with the other reviewers (OCD). Parts: Only missing one nut/bolt, due to a hole in the zip lock bag. Happily, my neighborhood hardware store has a billion of them. All parts fit just fine, without difficulty. ... show more

Amazon basics brand really has come a long way. I own various amazon basics items and this shelf is just top quality as the other stuff i bought. When i opened the box, i was pleasantly surprised. It looks to be made of aircraft aluminum. I have two other shelves from husky and the husky is no where close to being as nice. My only negative would be the installation instructions. However this wasnt a big deal for me since its nothing too complex that i couldnt just figure out myself. ... show more

This shelf is not only 5ft wide, it’s the best construction I’ve ever seen in a rack shelf. All aluminum and chrome, with support bars, it’s a very well made shelf.

    • Very easy to assemble with a helper
I read several negative reviews then the vast majority of positive ones. I am very pleased with the quality and appearance. The shelves are fully adjustable and sturdy. I have no negative concerns or comments. A couple negative reviews revolved around missing pieces etc. My box had burst open at one corner and was re-taped so I was extra aware of any missing components, there were none missing and no damage to any parts. The instructional guide was adequate and effective. This is a heavy box so a helper is needed to begin assembly. After that a helper is not required but is nice to have. A rubber faced mallet or soft hammer is required to seat the brackets into the legs securely Otherwise loose shelfs could be an issue. ... show more

    • Great Shelf, poor packaging
The shelf system is lightweight, easy to assemble and met my expectations. However, the original shipment came with one end split open and two pieces missing. Amazon could not ship replacement pieces; they had to ship an entire new unit. This package came and the box was split open down the middle. I took out the pieces missing from the original shipment and sealed the box back up as best as possible. Now the fun part. The box is 6.5 ft long and weighs 75 lbs. The Amazon return policy is to bring this to a UPS store, where they will print out the return label. I could not arrange for a home pickup. The UPS Store would not take the package; i had to take it to the local UPS facility. If you have to return this, you will need a good size SUV. The manufacturer needs to provide more robust packaging for this product. They ship fine when stacked 25 to a pallet, but do not do well when shipped individually by UPS. ... show more

The shelving comes in a very heavy box, so make sure you have two people to carry it. It was not difficult to set up, but make sure you pay attention to the drawings carefully, so that you use the correct components in the correct positions at each stage of assembly. We have approximately 400 lb of weight distributed between two of the shelves, and everything feels very secure. I would not hesitate to recommend this shelving unit for storage of heavy and large items. I can't speak to the durability, but I would say unless you are placing the unit in a very humid environment, I don't see a possible problem. ... show more
