First off this cage is super easy and quick to assemble. There’s definitely a left and right to each panel. If you have them lined up correctly, you don’t need to lift the other side. The latch can lock open or you can have the post out and it will lock in place when you close the door. I was under the impression this was going to be a small flimsy little corral. Boy was I wrong. It’s heavy and sturdy and much taller than I was expecting. I have a 7 pound yorkie that I thought would be able to jump over the 2 foot gate so I got the 3 foot. I thought it was definitely going to be a lighter weight material and the extra foot wouldn’t make a difference. It would just be a little taller and I would still be able to whip it out and hide it away when not in use. Ummmmmm. Nope. It’s large and sturdy and heavy. You are able to use as many or few panels as you like. I feel like if I had gotten the 2 foot height the smaller areas would have worked nicely for my dog, but I feel like when you take out panels and it’s this tall it kind of looks silly. I feel like if you have a Yorkie, the 2 foot height is probably sufficient. This 3 foot height would work well for larger dogs. The only thing I would consider removing a star for is the fact that the hinges are soldered in the middle of the pole. You aren’t able to just collapse it assembled you have to pull out the stakes. It will only fold to a 90° angle. I’m sure this makes it sturdier and harder for a dog to tip over. Which is why I did not remove a star, but it would’ve been nice if I could have just folded it flat to push it out of the way, but you really have to disassemble the whole thing. I currently crate my dog when I leave the house and I was hoping to just be able to set up this pen and then take it down when I get home. With the size of this it seems like that’s gonna be a lot of work. I should’ve gotten the smaller size. I definitely overestimated my dog and it makes a big difference if you plan to put it away when you’re done using it.

The media could not be loaded. I absolutely LOVE this dog playpen! It is a high-quality thick metal, playpen. It is large and extremely spacious and has plenty of room for my Shih Tzu to move around and play with his best friend Kit Kat as can be seen in the video I provided. I got the fence that has a 36" height, so there is no chance my Shih Tzu will jump the fence. It is a fast and extremely easy set up. Poles attach the panels together and stake each panel into the ground. There are round knobs on the top of each stake. One fell off when I was assembling the playpen. I noticed when that happened, there is more length to drive the stake into the ground that provides even more stability to the fence. So, I will be taking all the knobs off the stakes. I have a rocky property, and the stakes went into the ground with ease. The playpen has a gate that is a high-quality gate with a latch. The gate opens and closes with ease. The fence is extremely portable due to the fast set up, that is equally fast to take down, so it can be moved to different locations in a yard or easily brought along to outings, family outdoor picnics, camping, etc. It folds up nice and compact to bring along or store. I expect this can be used for an indoor cat as well to enjoy fresh air, and bird watching outdoors with hardware cloth or chicken wire secured over the top. The playpen is a great value at 105.99 for the 36-inch height fence. I absolutely love the Amazon Basics Dog Playpen, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

We fostered a pregnant mama dog and ended up with six puppies. As they grew older they needed more room to run around and the dog playpen was the perfect solution. It is lightweight enough to move easily but not too lightweight that the puppies can push it. It was very easy to put together and we probably had it up in 5 minutes tops. It is very sturdy once it's together and you can use it in different configurations. It's nice because if you wanted to use it with a mother dog and smaller puppies there is a step out so the mom dog can get out but the puppies would remain in for the first couple weeks anyway. The metal has a really nice finish on it and looks like it will hold up to repeated use. The gate was easy to open and secure. It is sizable enough for several puppies or even larger dogs with lots of room to play.

The fence itself is nice, it is good quality and does not feel flimsy. My only issue is that the rods only go into the ground four inches. The fence panel is twenty four inches high so four inches does not allow for a lot of stability. The knubb on the top of the rod only allows it to be inserted just so far, leaving what I feel is an extra 3-4 inches that could go into the ground. For inside use they included covers to go on the bottom of the rod so they do not damage your floors.
