  • Better than I expected
The product photos don't do these speakers justice. They look awesome, they're relatively heavy, and very well made. The speakers have felt on the bottoms so they won't scuff your desk. They sound really good. Do they sound as good as the stereo pair of Amazon Echo Studio speakers I have in my kitchen? No. But for the cost and their size, they sound excellent and plenty loud. Listening to Music (Spotify in my case) sounds great. The bass isn't bad, either. I'm only using these as USB speakers on my PC, but they can also connect to Bluetooth or a 3.5mm aux connection, so you can connect to your phone or a second computer. The puck has volume control and also has aux jack, and a button to turn the built-in light on or off. Note that the light is on/off only and only a single color (blue). There is a button on the puck that lets you easily switch between sources, so if you want to play music from your phone over bluetooth with the computer off, you can, provided your USB port is still powered. While the speakers have a decent weight to them, the control puck is extremely light. They put felt on the bottom of the puck too, but it's so light that it just floats around on the desk and doesn't sit flat. If that bothers you, you could try to stick it to a drink coaster with some double-sided tape to make it stay in place. The wires are a bit short. I didn't measure, but I think about four feet of separation between speakers. The wires are hard-wired between the puck and the speakers. While these speakers sound great as they are, I wish there was a paired subwoofer I could add to them. I searched for a small USB-powered standalone sub, but none showed up. Maybe if the team that built the speakers reads this comment they'll be inspired to build one. ... show more

  • Surprising heft and good sound from small speakers. USB A powered.
I'm very impressed with this set of Amazon Basics computer speakers. They have a solid build with a good amount of weight, which helps prevent rattling and keeps the speakers from being easily knocked off the desk by pets. For a small desk setup, they sound surprisingly good. While they don't offer the deep bass of a subwoofer, they exceed my expectations. I appreciate that the blue ambient lighting of the speakers can be easily turned off, as they aren't necessary in my office setup. The speakers can be connected to a computer via USB-A, which handles both audio and power, or they can be powered through USB-A while receiving the audio signal through either a 3.5 mm jack (you'll need your own 3.5 mm patch cable) or Bluetooth. When using the USB-A for both power and audio, I occasionally need to press the reconnect button after my PC wakes from sleep. It's simple to do and indicated by a flashing green LED. The control pod is positioned in the center and the left and right speakers are connected by 28" of wire each, which works well for my 4' wide desk. The USB-A connection to the control pod also has a 4' wire, which offers enough flexibility for desk speakers. My only minor complaint is that you can't power the speakers from one USB-A source and feed the audio signal via a separate USB-A connection. This would give me more peace of mind about not drawing too much power from my mini PC's USB A port. For now, I'm using Bluetooth to connect audio to my mini PC. I was initially confused about which speaker was the right or left channel, but there’s a small "R" tag on the wire behind one speaker to indicate the right speaker. ... show more

  • Good general speakers
I'm not an audiophile, so take this review for what it's worth, but these speakers have been great for general use. They're basic, budget speakers, and they perform well within that category. The sound quality is good for everyday tasks like listening to music or watching videos, though they may not be the best choice if you're looking for a premium experience for gaming or movies. One thing that impressed me was the Bluetooth range. It outperforms other Bluetooth speakers I've owned in the past, maintaining a stable connection even at longer distances. The design is sleek, and the blue lighting adds a nice aesthetic touch, although it can be unnecessary at times depending on your setup or mood. Overall, these speakers are exactly what they claim to be—basic and affordable. If you're looking for a no-frills, budget-friendly option, they get the job done! ... show more

  • Not impressed
For small speakers these sound fine. If you're an audiophile, keep looking - these aren't the ones you're looking for. It's nice to be able to turn off the blue light - though being able to dim them would be nicer. These work strangely when connected via USB to my mac mini. For some reason, running them via USB disconnects my attached USB drives. On the other hand, if I plug them into a USB power source (not the computer) and run them via Bluetooth - then they work fine. ... show more

  • Good sound quality. Gets audio through USB as an audio device.
The sound quality is very good (with respect to what is expected for its size). It's not going to outperform big speakers with sub-woofers and like, but for its size it has very good clarity and good focused bass. For a quiet room, it produces good clear music with decent low end and clear highs. For noisy environments, it will not overpower the noise. These speakers get the sound from the USB and shows up as an audio device on the computer. This is very handy since I don't have to run an audio cable and it works well with a usb hub that I have on the desk. The volume control changes the volume on the computer and is not independent of the computer. It also supports bluetooth audio but you have to plug in the USB cable to power the speakers. So, useful when you have to switch to bluetooth from the phone or another device but I use mostly via the USB. There is a lot of wires involved in these speakers. The center control has 3 wires coming out, one for each speaker and then one to go to USB. The cables probably can be partially hidden behind the keyboard or the monitor stand. The light on the speakers is blue and its on and off. Bit of a missed opportunity to make them RGB and have intensity levels, even react to the audio. But, it is just a dim blue light which adds a tiny bit of ambiance but I turned it off after a short while. Overall, a good speaker for late evening and night listening. ... show more
