Early review and I will update if anything changes but so far this chair is awesome. I am 6'3" and weigh about 280lbs. I herniated two discs in my back at the same time (L4-L5 and L5-S1) and let me tell you this: It sucks. I would not recommend it to anyone. I immediately realized how bad my old chair was on my back, so I ordered a gamer chair with a hard lumbar pillow thinking "hey, this will work. It's designed for gamers. Gamers sit ALL THE TIME. I just need it for watching Hulu at night with my wife and playing games a few hours on off days." Nope. The chair wobbled and soon tilted and now is almost as bad as the chair I replaced. I saw this chair and after reading mostly positive but still somewhat mixed reviews I went for it. I'm glad I did. First let's talk Assembly. This chair is easy to assemble. Like, really easy. I have assembled many computer chairs and desks in my life. This chair is the easiest I have ever assembled. The instructions are clean and concise (Although let's be honest, you could probably figure out how to assemble a chair on your own) and each step has its own page, making it really easy to keep up with where you are in the process. Each step has a full size picture too. The design of the chair is brilliant in that when you put the arms on the base, they make cups for the back to sit in. Also, PRO TIP: AFTER YOU UNBOX EXERYTHING DON'T IMMEDIATELY THROW THE BOX AWAY. Close it back up and use the box as a table to assemble the chair. When the seat of the chair is on the box, it keeps it at a comfortable working height and allows enough room on each side to easily and quickly attach the arm rests. AND if you have a drill with the right size bit, use that for assembly set on medium torque. Saves time and ensures you don't over tighten if you are heavy handed like me. TOTAL ASSEMBLY TIME: <15 MINUTES Now, let's talk about Design. The Design is simple and straight forward. No "slope the back to 180 degrees and invert to form a gravity table. Then transform it into a picnic basket with wheels and go to the park with the jet engine attachment". It is just a chair, plain and simple. I like the way the arms are designed because it prevents the possibility of the chair to "sag" or "bend" with use as I see with a lot of chairs that have the L-Shaped support from base to back. The two-bolts-in-back-two-in-base on each side design has seen the most success for me in the long term. Hopefully this will hold true with this chair. The lumbar pad is firm and the adjustment knob is easy to use and fine tune to the exact pressure desired. Perfect for someone with back problems. The base is stable and the casters snap in firmly but easily. The chair raises and lowers easily and is insanely comfortable. PLEASE NOTE: This chair truly is designed for big and tall people. If you aren't big and tall, maybe look elsewhere because at the lowest setting, my feet JUST sit flat on the ground. If I were any shorter, my legs would be dangling. Of course, I guess you could just get a footrest, but either way take note. Now comfort. So far the chair is insanely comfortable. The extra padding at the front keeps my legs from falling asleep and the lumbar pillow not only prevents an extra onset of additional back pain but also seems to be alleviating some of the pain. I honestly cannot remember the last time I could sit down without feeling excruciating sciatic pain. Here's a Haiku telling you just how I feel. Happy tears streaming my face, now a waterfall I blossom like spring The arm rests are a comfortable height. My head actually hits the head rest, though I usually don't have my head that far back. The width is comfortable and it feels stable and sturdy. Overall I am so far very pleased. As time goes on I will update if anything changes. Otherwise, As it stands now, you should definitely get this chair if you have back pain. Oh, I didn't even mention yet, THIS CHAIR IS SO AFFORDABLE! I almost projectile vomited all over my screen when I searched "Best office chairs for herniated disc". THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! What?! for a chair?! But then Amazon had my back (HAHAHA GET IT?!) And I put down the hammer as my piggy bank's eyes went from terror and disbelief to relief and shock, still amazed that I could have ever thought to smash him to pieces for the delicious money inside. Seriously though, if you're still reading this then you obviously are really interested in the chair. Just get this chair.

This chair comes in a BIG box that has a warning for two man lift, so be prepared to handle it. The instructions are well written and easy to follow and it went together in about 30 minutes with only a very little trouble. NOTE: Hardware packages are labeled with letters and make sure you match up what the instruction says with the correct package! The last two bolts were a little of a hassle to get in until I used a Harbor Freight wrachet tie down stray to ease the chair back into position, and then everything lines up and good to go. With the strap it was very easy to align the bolt holes BUT DON'T OVER TIGHTEN THE STRAP! Very comfortable chair, with a lot of room and sturdy. PROS: Well Written instructions; extra hardware, well constructed and solid UPDATE: Sep 2018 The chair is still working great BUT the seat cushion padding seems to have shifted and now I have us use a pillow to stay in the middle of the seat. Don't know if this was caused by my boney butt or it the seat cushion is breaking down. CONS: Found a staple end poking through the bottom of the chair set, heavy shipping box, back holes hard to align without additional strap to pull into place. Hardware packages were sealed plastic instead of zip lock I am under 200 pounds, and it seems very sturdy to me, but someone with more bulk might have more problems.

Initially: Well I have to admit Amazon's customer service is their saving grace and is consistently on point! I ordered this from the "warehouse" deals at a slight discount. The description was packaging is slightly damaged with NO product damages. OK I thought... but upon unpacking this Tetris like package... I found the back of the upper seat back had a gouge sliced into it. I normally could care less it's for my home office and well lets be honest.... it's going to get dinged and scratched up and over all it was in really good shape.... my concern was that I would catch it just right on something and it would rip wide open.... So Amazon offered me a little bit or $ back and I was able to go to my local tapestry shop and get a patch of fabric that they taught me how to properly cover and patch the area preventing it from ever tearing further! So that worked out just fine with me. Because there is no way on earth I was going to attempt to re-pack and return this sucker for a new one. Details: I will attach pictures shortly of start to finish... It went together well and I was able to do it alone. I will say it's nice of Amazon to actually add an " EXTRA PIECES" bag along with all the other pieces.... that never seems to happen any more. But all of the original pieces were there so I have back ups just in case. One other thing that I really appreciated and quite frankly NEVER EXPECT WITH FURNITURE.... The little hex wrench you get actually worked and spun freely 360 degrees around on every single bolt with one 1 exception. I was very pleased... it's a dang nightmare to put these things together when you have to remove and re attach the little dinky hex wrench 500 times during the process and your hand is already aching! So that was a nice surprise!!! Comfort for my size: Ok so this guy is big and roomy im an easy 250Lbs ( Yes I am being nice to my self... No judgments please LOL) But I am WELL under the manuals 350LBS max weight It does seem solid ( mind you I have only sat in this thing for all of 10 minutes.... ) It's soft and comfortable but not so squishy that I sink to the bottom where all the hard components are which is what happened to my last ( same as everyone had ) black office chair. I will say that I am only 5'10" and I do feel like I can just barely touch the floor with my feet when the chair is compressed all the way down. Which is not a deal breaker for me since I have a home made foot rest but just FYI. Also I was VERY HAPPY to see an adjustable lumbar in the seat back it's just a roller knob you adjust and it makes the lumbar protrude or retract to your desired liking. Nice touch because now I can get rid of the small couch pillow I have been using for years! NICE TOUCH!!!! Concern: Im still on the fence on this issue but I really feel like the seat bottom is VERY short... I kinda feel like it hits my upper to mid thigh and cuts a little to short.... some times I like to sit on 1 leg folded under my other leg from time to time and there is just no room.... which is really odd because my other ( old school regular size chair i'm replacing) I would EASILY do that and not have any problems... So I am hoping that once the padding compresses a little bit this will improve because I kind of feel pushed forward a little too much. But I am more than willing to give it a spin because I can complain all day long but there is NO OTHER chair out there with a price like this and Is actually descent quality! I refuse to spend $300+ on a chair that I am not really in ALL day.... no thanks! So I will update as things settle in and compress and I will have images soon. Hope this helps! Cheers! I received this chair approximately one hour ago so this review is on initial thoughts and setup. I may update it down the road and will tag it as such if I do. tldr; don't tighten the screws more than a few turns til they are all in. Fits me as a big and tall well, but if I were much shorter it would be too big. Would recommend to anyone over 5'10"-6'0"! Setup - 28 minutes From cutting the top of the box to sitting in the chair took me approximately 28 minutes. I have experience assembling other households items such as grills and dressers, but I took my time reading the instructions before each step to make sure I wouldn't have to back track. YMMV. The pieces all fit together easily. The only part I struggled a bit with was getting the first two screws in when attaching the back. The back is designed to sit tightly against the seat, so the cushion naturally fights you while trying to get things together. If you have a second person get them to push the seat into position while you thread the screws. If you are flying solo get the back as close to the right position as you can, squeeze it into place then hold the back tightly against the arm to get the screw into place. With small hands you may consider using a clamp with something soft between it and the seat to prevent damage. Don't tighten any of the screws more than a few twists to hold it in place and you should have minimal issues getting it all together. Once all screws are in, tighten each one a few turns then move to the next, circling around until all are snug. This will help everything fall into place smoothly. Note- I got a couple scratches on the arm from the screws that go into the back of the seat, but as long as you use caution when tightening the scratches will get covered by the plastic plug. Initial Thoughts: The seat has a lot more cushion than I am used to so it feels like I am sitting high. My old seat cushion is blown out from years of use, so it will definitely take a bit of getting used to. I am 6'1" and with the seat at it's lowest I've got about 1/2" before it would start picking my heels up off the ground. If my legs were too much shorter it would be too big, but then again this is a big and tall chair, so it's just right! This chair has more lumbar support than any office chair I have sat in, but unfortunately it's pretty firm at it's max. A couple twist down from max makes it pretty comfortable. I like significantly more lumbar support than most, and will supplement this with a tempurpedic pillow, so this is not an issue for me. This is why I gave the Ergonomic rating a 4. If the Lumbar was slightly more cushioned at it's max I would give it a 5, regardless of my desire for excessive lumbar support.

From time to time we have wondered: What would induce us to write a critical product review (of a product that arrived with all its parts and at the advertised price)? Now we know. We purchased two AmazonBasics Big & Tall Executive Chairs, for two home offices. The size was appealing, the chair appeared sturdy enough for a 240 pound 6’3” writer who spends 9+ hours a day at the craft, the advertised capacity was adequate (at 350 pounds), and the price was favorable. That was approximately 17 months prior to this writing. Our supposition seemed sound: for about five months. Then the chair began listing to starboard. Now, at approximately 11-degrees-plus of list, the chair is near capsizing. The occupant strains to stay in the seat and would likely slide off entirely were it not for the arm. The issue seems to be in the center post, although we have not yet disassembled the chair to make that determination. A second infirmity became apparent shortly thereafter. The chair seat cushioning began compressing (or migrating), and that process has proceeded to the vanishing point. Much of the time it is a bit like sitting on a wooden or metal plank. A drafting chair is more comfortable (and drafting chairs are not comfortable for 9-hour stints, day after day). The list probably contributes to the depletion of cushioning by disproportionately skewing weight to the starboard side: a matter of physics. But that certainly is not the entire explanation. The final issue is more minor. The height adjustment seems not to reach 22.25 inches, as advertised. Close, but not quite. And that makes a difference when one writes all day. The most charitable assessment of this product is that Amazon should reassess its designation as “Amazon’s Choice ‘for office chairs for heavy people’” (and consider a disclaimer: after writing this review we noticed that we are not the only purchasers who have experienced the starboard listing and vanishing cushion). Were it not for some residual sense of civility, this review would be littered with vituperative epithets. This is one of the worst purchases we have made through Amazon, induced by their “Amazon’s Choice” designation. Amazon should be embarrassed to accept money for this product. Nota bene: in our experience, this is the only Amazon’s Choice product that calls forth such scorn. That said, the second of these chairs has been at a relatively unused office and experienced little stress. For now, we will junk the chair used for the last 17 months and use the other of the same make and model. It is essentially new, given the lack of use. At the present obsolescence rate, we are paying about $10-12 per month for the use of these chairs; or somewhere in the range of $28-33 per month if crossing the comfort threshold is the determinative criterion. Which seems inappropriate: in either case. We end on a positive note, although inadequate to conduce another purchase of this chair: the size of the chair is excellent, the armrests sit at an appropriate height, the curvature of the arm rests is comfortable, and, for the most part, the lumbar supports are appropriate (or were, prior to the listing). Update: Having now retrieved the other chair, which has not previously been used, we provide an update. The other chair lists to port. Same defect. We can only be more emphatic in urging Amazon to reconsider not only its recommendation of this chair (which is indefensible) but stocking this chair at all.

Ordered the product which arrived without seat plate cover. Contacted customer service who initially reported that they couldn't send missing part; the entire chair would need to be replaced. Later they offed solution of sending replacement chair, giving me time to remove the part I am missing and send back the rest of the chair. When replacing the chair no expedited shipping could be offered though this was okay as the missing part doesn't effect the function of the chair. The quality of the chair seems rather good compared to price. It does sit rather high for me as a 5'10" male and requires me to lower the chair more than I would prefer due to a raised cushion in the front-center of the seat. This bulge also requires me to sit with my legs spread wider than I normally would. However, at 300lbs I feel very comfortable sitting in the chair and the width of the seat is quite nice. The faux leather has a soft premium feel and the trim stitching has a high end appearance. So I wouldn't call it a clerks chair but Executive seems a little out of reach so I'll just call it a Managers Chair. Overall the chair feels like it was designed more for the "Tall" than the "Big" and as I am clearly more on the later side of this equation everything just feels a little off. The lumbar support presses higher on my back than is comfortable and gives the sensation of a bar running across the middle of my back; so that's just useless. To be fair though, it seemed kind of gimmicky to me to begin with and not one of the reasons I would have select this chair. As I said before, the seat is plenty wide enough but the seatback has padded wings on the sides that causes it to feel too narrow. I have no doubt that this chair will appeal to some but to be honest, sitting in this chair as I write this, I'm finding it hard to make an argument for this chair over by $99 Office Depot special from 5 years ago.

Really nice chair. Thanks to some of the other reviews on this chair, I was able to put this together using advice and it really just came down to not fully tightening anything until all lined-up and then going around like you should with tightening a tire, back and forth incrementally until all tight. I am a recently disabled veteran and also have some degenerative disc disease lower lumbar and since I am back doing electronic music as a form of music/art therapy with a home studio, I realized I needed a much better chair and I am a stocky, 5'9 man at 235 Lbs. This chair fits like a glove with great padding, support in lumbar more than ample, the armrests are just perfect, when I lean head back I am at least resting on headrest perfectly, and with the chair only raised the few inches needed for my work desk ergonomically, my feet are just flatly on floor with no shoes; with shoes solid-footed. With that said, remember that I am 5'9, and my thighs are supported right up to under/at knees. I researched and compared many chairs specifically for big and tall and there's a plethora of offerings out there but I always came back to same few similar chairs and took a chance on my first Amazon Basics Brand item, and could not be happier. I did purchase the 3 year warranty but I can tell you with certainty that the excellent packaging, THICK cardboard box, and quality of bolts and craftsmanship; this is a chair that looks 2x it's price on Amazon and glad I have the warranty but do not foresee it being needed. I really wanted a black leather chair but this was only in the brown so want to say that this is deeper walnut/chestnut not a light saddle brown. It's quite attractive and I am not so much an earth colors type. Buy this chair, but heed the advice on taking your time and tighten lastly. By the way, the instructions are one of the most clear worded and straight-forward for any furniture. Stop looking and buy this already. Edit: My particular chronic lower pain that had flared-up, prompting me to research hard before acquiring this chair really has paid for itself, as my back already feels back to tolerable discomfort--huge difference from chronic pain-- and nothing is a panacea or replacement for proper medical care, but I know my copay to a back specialist would easily be more than this chair cost. Very happy and 4 days into comfort. Well-done, Amazon.

I just purchased this chair and, while it seems to meet expectations, it arrived damaged. Due to where the damage was located — on the rear of the back of the chair — I did not discover it until I was almost finished assembling the chair. (The back of the chair is the last part to be attached.) I called the Amazon customer service number listed in the enclosed manual and reported the damage. It was obvious that something was rubbing against the chair during shipping (and/or storage) and wore a hole through the material. They immediately apologized and assured me that they would replace the entire chair. All I had to do was disassemble the chair, re-pack it, seal the box and ship it back to them which they would pay for. I did not want to do that. I did not want to spend at least another hour unscrewing all the little screws with that weird allen wrench and putting them back in their little packages. Removing the arms and rewrapping them. Pulling all the little wheels out of the base and repackaging them. Disassembling the seat and the piston/plate set up and... you get the idea. Just, no. The customer service rep then offered me a $10 credit to compensate me for the damage. While a polite effort, $10 on $160 chair is not really adequate compensation. I passed on the ten bucks and requested that they just ship me a replacement back for the chair. I simply wanted them to replace the damaged part as opposed to replacing the entire chair which — while technically efficient and gets the job done — was the most logistically undesirable solution. At least from the customer's point of view. The customer service rep informed me that this was not possible. That they were not set up to just replace a single damaged part. It was the entire chair or nothing. She then upped the credit offer to $15. Nice effort but again, no thank you. $15 on $160 chair is still not really that big a deal. I bought a NEW chair because I wanted a NEW chair. Not a slightly damaged NEW chair and a fifteen bucks off. If I wanted to save money, I could have ordered a $60 or $80 chair, but I wanted a nice one. When I informed her that I would not be accepting the bank-breaking fifteen dollars of hush money but that I would instead be documenting the unsatisfactory experience in this review, she immediately jumped to the maximum dollar amount that she was authorized to offer. "How much is that?" I asked. Twenty dollars. Ummmm..... No thank you. While twenty dollars is nothing to sneeze at, as a means of remedying this situation it was insufficient. It's the principal at this point. (Also, bottom line - $140 for a slightly damaged new chair.) I would like to add that the customer service rep was pleasant and professional the entire time. She did the best she could. She was simply limited by the policies in place to which she must adhere. Also, Amazon, if you're reading this. Twenty dollars is the amount you start with. One of the core principals of your customer satisfaction policy should not be "begin by low-balling them". Seriously. So, if you want to buy this chair, buy this chair. It seems like it's a fine, comfortable chair. (I've only been sitting in it for a few days now but my butt seems pleased with it.) However, inspect it toughly when it arrives and before you start assembling it. If any of the parts are damaged, you're either stuck with it or you have to return the entire thing. Broken wheel? Return the entire chair. Scratched arm rest? Return the entire chair. And it ain't a small package. Or, you know, hold out for the entire twenty dollars. The return policy in place is fine if this were a book or a DVD or a sweater. A small, single-unit type item that can be easily repackaged and shipped back if there's an issue. I've even availed myself of this return policy once or twice when something small I've ordered arrived damaged or the wrong item was shipped. (I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon.) But now that I now know it's a "one size fits all" policy applied to many different Amazon products, I will certainly think twice when it comes to buying larger, more expensive, multi-piece items like this in the future. I probably won't do it again. So, as is always the case "caveat emptor". Let the buyer beware. Happy sitting.
