The shredder has held up for personal use. Nice auto/forward/reverse settings. Our only complaint after 2 years is that the cross-cut blades can let uncut strips through. If the blades get gummed they do not guarantee that the strips don't go through without being cut. The vertical cutting works without fail.

I have had shredders before, but none have worked as well or felt as sturdy as this one. I had a shopping bag full of papers I needed to have shredded, so I bought this 12 sheet shredder instead of taking the papers (junk mail w/my info on it, bills, etc.), to a UPS store. No problems shredding all of it, including old credit cards. A couple of times I put too many sheets in at once, and the shredder stopped, I hit the reverse, and easily removed the stuck sheets without any harm to the machine. It did not overheat (my old one did after just a few minutes), and storing it after I was done, was easy. The basket is a bit on the small side, though adequate and much sturdier than my old shredder’s. The glass (hard plastic?) window in the basket made it easy to see when it needed to be emptied. The top that contains the shredding system and all the electricals to run it, is very heavy, thus, it was good to have a sturdy basket. The top fits well into the basket. My previous shredder always felt unstable, but this one did not. I will probably be using WD-40 oil to make sure it continues to work well. I need to learn how often that is recommended, and will fully read through the enclosed instructions to learn how often - if it’s recommended at all. Some comments mentioned it before I decided to buy this, so I’ll look into it since I never oiled other shedders. (Maybe that’s why they didn’t last? - Who knows…) For this one, though: so far, so good. Seems to be well worth the $40 price.

Our security cameras picked up a competitor going through our trash two Sundays in a row. The very next week, we purchased this shredder. That Monday, we all had a good laugh watching him dig through the bags, only to find nothing but perfectly shredded paper—proof he’d been busted. This shredder has been rock-solid. It’s dependable, surprisingly quiet, and hasn’t disturbed anyone in the office. It’s worked like a champ for years, which says a lot about the quality. When it’s time to empty, I just slip a trash bag over the bin, flip it upside down, and it’s done—simple and clean. You might want to try it.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased this shredder for home use because I work in special education and need to shred confidential documents regularly. I keep this in my basement so its out of disturbance range from my family, so I really wasn't concerned with the "noise" factor upon purchase. Because most of the documents I shred have staples, I was excited to buy an inexpensive home office shredder that could tackle staples as well. I included a video shredding a 10-page document with a staple so you an see and hear how the machine works. Here's the run-down on pros/cons: Pros: Small and easy to "hide" in your office Relatively quiet compared to my last shredder Microshredded paper takes up less room inside the storage basket Window view to see how when it's time to empty Simple to put together and operate Won't run if the top isn't on correctly (nice safety feature) Shreds 7-10 pages with ease Shreds staples with no problems Cons: Becomes more laborious for 10 pages and up Storage container for shreds is very small and needs to be emptied often As you can see, the cons are minimal and really depend on the type of shredding you do. If you're shredding 12-page documents regularly, I'd go with a bigger, higher-capacity unit because this many pages begins to sound labored in this shredder. If you're like me and shred 7-10 page documents, it works great. If you're shredding every day, you might consider a bigger unit so you're not emptying the shredded paper constantly. Hope this helps!
