Amazon Basics Medium-duty 5-shelf storage unit (double post) is made of durable high-grade aluminum construction frame and particle board. The maximum capacity is up to 4000 lbs totally, 800 lbs per shelf, which can store much more stuff and tools in your garage, kitchen, office, etc. This shelving unit's rivet lock design requires no nuts or bolts for assembly. There are two options when assembling. One is to build a whole of 5 tiers - 48” W x 24” D x 72” H. I needed bookshelves for my home library. I wanted something with a ladder on wheels, but they were THOUSANDS of dollars. I also couldn’t find any cheap bookshelves for less than $80. I’ve used these types of shelves in my basement in the past and they are sturdy. The Amazon shelves have a locking mechanism, where my older shelves just had a metal four out the shelf support slips into. These are much safer. HOWEVER, the metal on the top and bottom is sharp. You get caps to put on so do that first! The only hard part was connecting the top and bottom legs with the middle shelf. It would be easier to set up with a second person. But not required. I had help for three of the four I put together. It took about 30 minutes to open the box, put the shelves together, move them, and cut up the four boxes. ... show more

Normally, I view Amazon Basics as a hold your nose and hope product because it has a good chance to be suboptimal. These shelves are not that way at all; they are very very good. Machining is precise, all the items fit exactly as they should. Assembled easily. Light weight to move around. The shelve boards are okay, and not warped. No odd odor. I recommend a rubber mallet for assembly. Very pleased so I purchased a second one…. And it was just like the 1st ... show more

Good rack for light to medium loads. I bought two racks to store gardening supplies like empty pots, netting, hand tools, etc. All the parts were included. The instructions are images, no text. One of the steps was slightly confusing but assembly was easy, overall. They suggest a rubber mallet which was helpful. Very sturdy garage shelf. Like other reviewers said. It feels like it would be flimsy but once assembled, it’s very solid. Excellent garage shelf. I wish I had room for another. I would try to assemble it near where you are going to put it. Makes it way easier. If not. You can move the frame easily without the boards on the shelf. Just don’t pull up on the horizontal shelf bars or they may pop out. Not a big deal at all. Really helped organize my garage. Like another reviewer said, the shelf boards are unfinished. I paid $101.35 and, although it has no rollers, it's worth it: after researching several other shelving units (mostly with rollers), it seemed to me that this is the best choice for quality, size, and durability, even though the instructions could have been somewhat better and the other units were lower in price. For those who have never put together one of these units, it takes just a few minutes to "get" the assembly instructions. You'll need a rubber or a wooden mallet or something similar -- DO NOT use a metal hammer. 15 minutes should be enough time to put it together, once you get the hang of it. Much easier with two people. If you have not assembled the unit where it's going to be placed, it will be easier (for one person) to move if you take out the pressboard shelves; the unit isn't very heavy, but it can be unwieldy. Two people should be able to easily move it with shelves in. NOTE: The rubber tops come out easily; you might want to put them on once the unit is in place. Quality seems very good; it has plenty of room (partly because of the smart engineering of the unit); strength seems good. Shortly, I'll be ordering another one of these -- perhaps two -- for my storage room and garage. I recommend this shelving unit. (Load it from the bottom - up, keeping heaviest things on the lower shelves.) It's a good buy. ... show more

I ordered two of these a few weeks ago and just put them together this morning. It took about 25 minutes to assemble the first and another 15 minutes for the second, so super easy if you do it methodically. I didn't find my mallet so I used the back side of my plastic wheel brush which is about 4 inches wide for the hammering. To assemble in 15 minutes, I did the following. Plastic ends on vertical pieces, then assembled the bottom braces, then middle braces to join the verticals, then top braces and finally the other two middle shelf braces. Move the unit into position and place the shelves on the braces. Here I am writing a review after ordering two more! Hopefully I'll have the same experience once again. ... show more

This shelf was a great solution for my needs in my storage unit. It offers plenty of space with adjustable shelves. No tools were needed to get it together, but they do recommend a rubber mallet which would have made it a little easier. It has a bit of heft to it, but it's easy enough to move around with out much difficulty. Could be accomplished solo, but having two sets of hands will make it significantly easier, both in assembly and moving it. All in all a great buy. ... show more
