I’ve always been hesitant to buy store-brand D batteries because the devices that use them—like my high-lumen flashlights and my kid's favorite motorized toys—are notorious battery eaters. However, this Amazon Basics 4-Pack D Cell Alkaline All-Purpose Batteries has completely changed my mind. They perform just as well as the "big name" brands but at a much more reasonable price. 1. Reliable Power for High-Drain Devices I first tested these in a large LED camping lantern during a weekend trip. The light stayed bright for hours on end without that annoying "dimming" you get with cheaper, lower-quality cells. I also put a set into a motorized baby swing that usually drains batteries in a week; these have been going strong for over ten days now with zero signs of slowing down. 2. The 5-Year Shelf Life is a Life Saver Living in an area prone to storms, I need to know my emergency supplies are ready. These come with a 5-year leak-free shelf life, so I can keep a couple of 4-packs in my hurricane kit without worrying they'll be dead when the power actually goes out. It’s the kind of "set it and forget it" reliability you need for emergency prep. 3. Solid Build & No Leaks The construction feels very sturdy. I’ve had issues with other "budget" batteries leaking and ruining the terminals of expensive electronics, but these have remained perfectly dry, even in devices that sit unused for a few months. The fit is also standard; they slide easily into the battery compartments of my Maglite and various toys without being too tight or too loose. 4. Unbeatable Value When you look at the price per battery, it's hard to justify buying anything else. You get the same 1.5V output and long-lasting alkaline chemistry as premium brands. It’s allowed me to stop rationing battery use in my house because it no longer feels like I’m throwing away five dollars every time I turn on a heavy-duty flashlight. Pros: Cost-Effective: Significantly cheaper than major retail brands. High Performance: Excellent for high-drain items like toys, clocks, and flashlights. Emergency Ready: 5-year shelf life ensures they are fresh for years. Frustration-Free Packaging: Easy to open without needing heavy-duty scissors. Cons: These are not rechargeable, so once they're done, they need to be recycled. The packaging is simple, so make sure to store any extras in a cool, dry place. Final Verdict: If you have devices that require D batteries, stop overpaying for the brand name. These Amazon Basics D Cell batteries are the perfect balance of durability, performance, and price. They’ve earned a permanent spot in my battery drawer

I switched to Amazon Basics batteries over two years ago after getting tired of paying premium prices at the store for the big-name brands, only to get essentially the same results. The convenience alone makes these batteries an easy choice. Being able to order them through Amazon and have them delivered the same day or next day means I always have batteries on hand when I need them. I also really like the different pack-size options, which makes it easy to buy the quantity that works best for your household. Over the past two years, I’ve had no issues with performance. They’ve worked reliably in both warmer and colder temperatures, and I haven’t noticed any meaningful difference compared with the name-brand batteries I used to purchase. In my experience, Amazon Basics batteries perform just as well as, if not better than, the majority of their more expensive competitors. When you combine the performance, reliability, variety of pack sizes, and convenience of delivery, it’s a pretty simple decision. Great batteries at a great price and I’ll keep buying them.

Good price; they don't seem to last as long as some of the more expensive name-brand batteries, but the price and delivery convenience makes for a great deal.

These Amazon Basics D batteries have been dependable and provide long-lasting power for my devices. They arrived well packaged, were easy to store, and have performed just as well as more expensive name-brand batteries in everyday use. The 12-pack is a great value, especially if you use D batteries regularly for flashlights, lanterns, toys, or other household items. I haven’t experienced any leakage or performance issues, and they’ve held their charge well. Overall, this is an excellent value and a product I would definitely purchase again.
