Overall, I am happy with this purchase. We installed it in our master bathroom as it looks good and was less than half the price of a heated floor. A few things to know. The unit is 4" wide and will come out evenly with a sheet of drywall in a 2x4 wall. You will need something to cover the unit over-top of the drywall. We used wainscoting and it looks great. The black metal trim piece barely covers anything, but looks nice. I hard-wired the unit. This is not an easy task with the way the wire has to go into the unit. It calls for 12awg wire, though the included cord is 14awg. You can hard wire it, but plan for some bad words while doing it. I also used a programmable thermostat, which the unit says is an option. It has to be wired prior to installation, so you can't change your mind once it is in. The unit is wired so that an open circuit causes the heat to come on (N/O). Virtually every thermostat I could find is the opposite, so a closed circuit causes the heat to come on (N/C). I am still looking for a solution, but for now, and since the unit is installed in my wall and I do not have much of a choice, I had to wire it to the 'Cool' side of the thermostat. This works, but is not ideal. The thermostat has to be on 'Cool' to heat and turning it to 'Off' actually keeps the heater on constantly. The remote seems to work intermittently. Lastly, the installation manual is a generic one for several units, none of which seemed to be this one. It was close so we got through it. In the end, we like how it looks and we like the heat it puts out. You do hear the fan but it is very low. We are not sorry about our purchase, I just wish I knew these challenges were in my future when we purchased it. UPDATE: I contacted the company and was told this unit "Is not smart enough" to handle a programmable thermostat. I was told to use a low-end one that is very simple. I did that, and still no luck. I am waiting for them to call me back with another suggestion. I also went to two different stores that sell electric fireplaces and they also said such a thermostat does not exist to their knowledge. Another update: After several emails back and forth with the design engineer, they sent me a new PC Board. I installed it and the unit works great! I re-installed the programmable thermostat I purchased at HD and it goes on and off when I need it to. I upped the star rating since it now works great and customer service was very helpful. ... show more

We bought this fireplace a year and a half ago, and had an electrician install it in our wall. Within a month and a half, a strip of lights went out. We were sent a replacement (warning, service is not covered as part of the warranty so you have to do repairs yourself) and after a precarious hourslong process removing parts and getting to the lights and replacing them, the new lights later went out in the same area. Additionally, the motor which used to be silent is now groaning and creaking after warming up. I find this to be a very shoddy product for the price, with pretty crappy support. We're now thinking of tearing this out and replacing it with another brand. Save yourself some headaches and do the same. ... show more
