I wanted to add an XL size dog door to an already existing opening in my garage wall to the side yard for my Labrador Retriever. I am not sure who says an 11 x 17 (large size) door is adequate for "up to 100 lb" dog, but none the less, the XL size seems better suited, so I found this door on sale and decided to give it a try. NOTE: This is designed for an entry door, not an exterior wall, so I had to provide my own framing between both dog doors. I just wasn't willing to pay over 2X the cost for a telescoping model designed for a wall. I framed out my opening between the interior and exterior walls, and prefit the doors to make sure the fit was good. The doors have about a 1 1/2" flange that overlapped the opening I built, creating a smooth transition. Once I was satisfied with the fit, it was time to mount them. While the package included some screws, there are no mounting holes provided, and I didn't really want to drill thru the framing, so out came the caulk gun and some silicon caulk to adhere the doors to the wall. I used some quick clamps to keep the doors snug to the walls, and just caulked around the frame, and let set until the caulk had dried. Oh, I had removed the flaps for the installation so I didn't accidentally damage them. These are a bit tricky to get in and out, and it did take me a couple of attempts to get them back in properly, but they do hold securely once they are seated correctly. Overall, I am happy with the product and would buy them again for the money I saved vs. the telescoping design.

We installed this on our screen patio so the dogs could go out into the backyard. Our goal is to keep the mosquitoes out. We were not concerned about it being weatherproof. With that in mind, it worked very well and we would recommend it for that purpose. If you were looking to put it in a doorway from your house to outside, then this would not be the product for you. Small insects could easily get through the sides. This has magnets that hold it in place, but it is certainly not a tight seal.

If you put it in a steel door that most people have this door takes a little more effort than the one that have bolts that go thru to the other side. Be prepared to drill pilot hols in the frame I had some hex head screws from putting on a metal roof that were black also rivet would do no good in a Styrofoam door plus how many people have a rivet tool. But made it work.

The media could not be loaded. Great value, easy to install if you are handy! The 2 plastic doors are a little heavy and hit their legs on the way out but they are figuring out how to hop out to avoid that. It is not air tight so my husband added a wooden hinged door to cover it at night for insulation and added safety. We live at 7300 ft and it gets cold up here in the winter. Altogether we are loving not having to get up and let them out ever 10min! Good purchase!

The media could not be loaded. We just installed this today. So far it looks like and I’ll do exactly what we wanted to do and the magnets catch back correctly after the flaps are opened. I just wish this door came in the darker bronze similar to standard door colors and doorknob colors.
