  • Great Upgrade For Porsche 911 996 Front And Rear Speakers
My 2002 911 has the medium speaker speaker package which includes the 2 front 4 inch speakers, the 2 5 inch door subs and the 2 rear 4 inch speakers. The stock audio quality was definately not great and on certain notes the rear left speaker would rattle. Upon taking the speaker out I saw the rubber around the cone was COMPLETELY GONE and the rattle was from the cone rattling and hitting the housing. I ended up taking out the other 3 speakers and the foam was still there but literally fell apart when I touched it. I found a video on YouTube where a guy modified his boxter speakers (identical) by citing out the old ones and gluing these in place. A side note that the video didn't do is remove the old speaker foam/ glue before gluing these in. I had to soak mine in rubbing alcohol for 15 minutes before being able to scrape the old stuff off. After this you need to rough up anywhere where the glue will be for it to stick well. You will need to trim the mounting tabs to make the new speaker fit but the video shows cutting them all the way off but for them to center well you need to cut it where the forks meet the base, leaving an 1/8 inch stickin out. I used JB weld 5 minute plastic epoxy to glue the new speakers in. Something that confused me was on the plug there was a small plus indicating positive but the rear speaker wires were backwards to this. I ended up going with the wire colors which was regular for the front speakers and backwards for the rear. The 911 speakers include a small tweeter which isn't on Boxters that needs to be removed since these have a built in tweeter. The new speakers have much better overall sound quality and much more bass (not that I crank the bass all the way up, that's not what a Porsche is for(get a civic). Great speakers for the money! ... show more

  • Great speakers for the price
Great speakers for the price. I had to modify them to fit the special resonator boxes in my Celica, but once in, they sounded better than what was there initially. They would have fit fine, had I not wanted to use the existing boxes. One of the websites I checked for fit, said they fit direct, but they did not in my 89 Celica. Also, one of the things I did not have access to in the specs was the SPL (sound pressure level). In my limited exposure to this, an SPL of 90 or more sounds much clearer to me. Its been so on many sets of speakers I've tried. The SPL written on the box was 87, so I wasn't too impressed with the number or the sound quality, initially, because it sounded somewhat "muddy" to me. But over time I began to like it because it was a much better quality than the ancient torn-up speakers that were there in the first place. But I wish they'd have specified SPL before I'd bought them. Perhaps they did and I didn't see it. But it being an Alpine product, I expected better sound from them, and a higher SPL level. I think I'd look for some with a higher number next time. ... show more

  • Good 4 inch speakers
Background: I own a 1988 Toyota Pickup, which has stock 4 inch speakers. I did not feel like modifying my truck to fit bigger speakers so I decided to stick with 4 inch speakers. I had previously bought a pair of Scosche HD4003 4-Inch 150-Watt 3-Way Speakers, which were not cutting it all (see my review). I had an Alpine head unit which I liked, and I have read good things about Alpine Type-S speakers so I decided to give these a try. Pros: Sounds good for a 4 inch speaker. No distortion even with my Alpine MRX-F35 amp. Good high and mid range frequencies. These speakers are also priced at an affordable price. Cons: No low frequency (bass). I ended up buying an amp and bass tube to solve this problem. Bottom line: As far as 4" speakers, I would say this is the best bang for the buck. ... show more

  • Bit of mods but works for Porsche 996 dash and rear deck lid.
Cheap excellent dash and rear deck speaker replacement for my Porsche 996 the speakers have to be modified along with the factory cradle to get it to fit. Recommend sealing with resin for install. Additionally I put a few strips of sound deadener in the dash under the speakers as the 996 likes to develope rattles. Not sure if that was necessary but was a "while you are in there". Speakers won't win any contests but a cheap excellent upgrade over stock. Stock speakers are 2 ohm while these are 3 but still work well with the factory amp. I used the factory speaker connecters which saved me a bit of money. Just need to crimp the negative side a bit for a secure fit. Not quite a direct install but a 2/10 on the difficulty scale for Porsche 996. ... show more

  • 2001 Silverado Extended cab
Have them in the rear doors running on an iLX207 with JL C1 components in the front door and 10TW3 under rear seat on an Alpine M500. With the height of these 4’s in the rear door I have them crossed over around 120hz and reduced their volume by 5 dB form the C1’s from the headunit which drives them both this gives me a nice full sound. If I don’t reduce their volume I feel like they are screaming at me from behind. The versatility of the 207 really allows you to make them sound great. ... show more

  • but somehow with these subs which didn't sound good at all before
I replaced the 4" speakers in my 2014 Mini Cooper Paceman (2 in the front and 2 rear). I have the standard head unit with 6 speakers (2 mediocre-sounding subs under the seats). When I put in the Alpine speakers the whole system came to life. I don't understand how but even the bass improved dramatically. The speakers by themselves really have no bass, but somehow with these subs which didn't sound good at all before, now I have some clear mids and highs with decent mid-bass. I have a nice sounding unit now (not very powerful until I install amps). I would definitely recommend this upgrade for another Mini driver. For about $100 for the 4 speakers, it made a huge difference. ... show more
