  • Very Satisfied
I installed this Alpine AM/FM/audio/video Receiver into my 2000 F350. All of these yrs., I've been satisfied with the original radio/cassette/CD player, but I've gotten to the point of wanting to upgrade the truck. I often use the Satellite GPS, it's fantastic and the Radio system is so Easy to set up. It has a small microphone that you install into the vehicles compartment and you can answer phone calls or direct it to look for places, etc. I also installed a backup camera, but didn't take a picture of that and It works very well. If you Use such music systems as Sirius, Pandora, Prime, etc., It works out great with That also. I'll just have to say, that I'm Very Spoiled Now !!! I feel THAT was a Good investment. ... show more

  • One of the greatest head units
This is an amazing head unit. It has all of the bells and whistles. I replaced a Cadillac DTS OEM head unit with this and it souands excellent with the Bose Amplifier that is in the vehicle. I used the idatalink maestro install kit and it allowed me to use the vehicle functions such as ac controls, tpms, door alerts, dashboard dials, etc. It has built in sirius xm radio controls and usb inputs. I ordered a second unit foe my 2013 Camaro but in order to use the idatalink maestro unit install module it would have requireda an addditonal cam bus unit that was costly. So after paying more than $800.00 for this head unit and better than $100.00 for the instal module, it was just not feasible to pay an additional $300+ for a can bus module so I unfortunately returned this unit. But all thigs considered. This is a 10. ... show more

  • Very underwhelming
Final update: Save your money folks. I've tried for months to make this unit work with AA or CP. I called and emailed Alpine for months on end. They are a terrible company selling a flawed device and will do nothing to rectify the situation. Absolutely avoid this unit at all costs. Without the headlining features working properly this is a 480p screen and standard radio. You can get that in a really nice package for $300 or less. Original: I understand this product is now quite a bit older, however, for the going price of “way higher than any other head unit of this kind” It’s sort of underwhelming. For example it lacks customization outside of UI tint and favorites. I can’t find any firmware updates, so probably never will get better software wise. No navigation built in, which is mostly fine since inbuilt nav is usually trash, but the option would be nice. Maestro compatibility is really the reason to get this over the cheaper Halo9, so with that connected you'll get a more OEM style experience. That’s just the software... Hardware is where I get kind of bummed. The screen has poor vertical viewing angles and overall very poor color. I suspect the CarPlay complaints are actually due to poor viewing angles + poor color reproduction. The default UI is deep black with hints of color so you don’t really notice the poor quality until you pop into richer graphics. Besides that, the resolution is also bad for 9”. If your install is further away it might be ok, but in my compact it’s up close and pixelated. Touch screen responsiveness is quite good but the “brain” fan kicks in quite fast to deliver such performance. Install is pretty lame compared to some other floating screens. Every little thing is screwed and bezeled with a fragile looking connector and tight fitting plastic clips. You have to leave a fair amount of space to get your hands, tools, and screws in between the unit and the dash. The lack of easily removable screen is annoying. I suppose if you were to leave your car parked in a sketchy place for an extended period of time, a screw driver would make it “removable.” While I like the floating nature I do wish it could be fitted more tightly or had a mechanism to fill the gap between HU and dash. It's hard to get a clean OEM style look. My conclusion is the same as others: CarPlay/AA is the backbone of this unit - it has next to no other inbuilt features besides radio + HDMI. No maps, no wifi for it's own multimedia, etc. Since CarPlay cannot display in it's highest fidelity on this garbage screen the unit has significantly less value. Either that or it's a software bug. I called and emailed several times about this issue and they constantly reassured me it's not a bug... so it's a garbage screen plain and simple. ... show more

  • My son thinks I took it out of a Tesla ;)
Very nice fit in the 2014 Tacoma. The display and features are awesome and the sound is even better. Don’t buy a new truck to get Apple CarPlay, buy the Alpine ILX-F309. Definitely recommend replacing the factory “paper” door speakers with any aftermarket speakers. The steering wheel button control integration is flawless and easily accomplished with the iDatalink Maestro RR. I chose to self install and with the vertical and tilt adjustments, it was a breeze to get the placement exactly where I wanted it and no longer have to deal with the “Taco Tilt” factory display touchscreen. ... show more
