  • Tons of features. Better than what the factory can offer.
Installed in 2014 Silverado. This thing does so much I haven’t been able to play with it all yet. Install took less than an hour (familiar already with disassembly of dash). Wiring was straight forward. If you plan on adding backup camera, HDMI video device, sat radio, subs ... etc. it comes with all the wiring (except sat receiver), so run it all during initial install to where you want it to save time later. Was initially hesitant because of price, but glad I did. Tired of generic ones crapping out. Carplay seems like factory. Completely satisfied so far. ... show more

  • Google Maps works very nicely on Satellite View
I installed this myself on my 84 Toyota truck and it fit pretty darn cool. I was concerned to purchased this that the Android Auto would not display the maps well after reading the reviews, and it didn't until I changed it to Satellite View (which I prefer anyways) and works very well visually (just tap on the Control symbol on the bottom left of the Map screen to change it to Satellite view). Everything is working great so far, many options. I have this connected to Alpine external amps and all Alpine speakers and the sound and control of the sound is amazing. Oh, just wish it had a good ol' volume knob! is my only wish so far :-) ... show more

  • Very underwhelming
Final update: Save your money folks. I've tried for months to make this unit work with AA or CP. I called and emailed Alpine for months on end. They are a terrible company selling a flawed device and will do nothing to rectify the situation. Absolutely avoid this unit at all costs. Without the headlining features working properly this is a 480p screen and standard radio. You can get that in a really nice package for $300 or less. Original: I understand this product is now quite a bit older, however, for the going price of “way higher than any other head unit of this kind” It’s sort of underwhelming. For example it lacks customization outside of UI tint and favorites. I can’t find any firmware updates, so probably never will get better software wise. No navigation built in, which is mostly fine since inbuilt nav is usually trash, but the option would be nice. Maestro compatibility is really the reason to get this over the cheaper Halo9, so with that connected you'll get a more OEM style experience. That’s just the software... Hardware is where I get kind of bummed. The screen has poor vertical viewing angles and overall very poor color. I suspect the CarPlay complaints are actually due to poor viewing angles + poor color reproduction. The default UI is deep black with hints of color so you don’t really notice the poor quality until you pop into richer graphics. Besides that, the resolution is also bad for 9”. If your install is further away it might be ok, but in my compact it’s up close and pixelated. Touch screen responsiveness is quite good but the “brain” fan kicks in quite fast to deliver such performance. Install is pretty lame compared to some other floating screens. Every little thing is screwed and bezeled with a fragile looking connector and tight fitting plastic clips. You have to leave a fair amount of space to get your hands, tools, and screws in between the unit and the dash. The lack of easily removable screen is annoying. I suppose if you were to leave your car parked in a sketchy place for an extended period of time, a screw driver would make it “removable.” While I like the floating nature I do wish it could be fitted more tightly or had a mechanism to fill the gap between HU and dash. It's hard to get a clean OEM style look. My conclusion is the same as others: CarPlay/AA is the backbone of this unit - it has next to no other inbuilt features besides radio + HDMI. No maps, no wifi for it's own multimedia, etc. Since CarPlay cannot display in it's highest fidelity on this garbage screen the unit has significantly less value. Either that or it's a software bug. I called and emailed several times about this issue and they constantly reassured me it's not a bug... so it's a garbage screen plain and simple. ... show more

  • Toyota 4runner 2006
Love it! great sound, added a backup camera for a 2006. Android auto works great. Maps are not a problem, i always use it in night/dark mode so no washed out screen. not hard to install if you know what you doing the only thing is kind of a pain to uninstall if when adding a sub when i had to install a sub woofer. ... show more

  • Great Features, but docking a star for non-removable screen
Installed in a 2000 Silverado 2500 w/manual trans (most likely won't work with an automatic due to placement, likely the shifter would hit the screen). This unit has a lot of great features and available add-ons. Pandora through bluetooth wouldn't connect to the app on my phone for the first 4 days, but it did randomly start working and is still working 4 weeks later. Not sure if an app update fixed an issue. Others have noted not being happy that Android Auto/Car Play only works through USB and not Bluetooth, personally I keep my phone plugged in while driving so don't see an issue with it. Keeps the phone charged. This unit will require a bypass module to access settings/video while not having the parking brake on. This unit requires you to set the parking brake, release it, and then set it again in order to access those features. I installed a bypass readily available on amazon to get around it, just annoying having to set it twice. My biggest complaint is the screen not being removable. This looks like a tablet hanging from your dash and is likely to draw the attention from thieves, especially considering just how expensive this unit is. To take the screen off you have to remove 2 side covers, 3 screws from the top, and 2 screws from the bottom. Not realistic to do this on a daily basis, and 1 of the screws on top is really really small. If you lose it, the screen won't function without the screw in place. All it takes is dropping that screw between a seat and you'll never see it again. My only other complaint (not specific to this unit) would be the maps on Android Auto. I really do like having the maps on a large screen, but the difference in color between the street and the surrounding space are so close that its hard to see during the day. At night, the color scheme changes and have great contrast between the two. But during the day, its difficult to see what are the streets and what are empty fields. Hopefully Android Auto fixes this in the future. ... show more

  • Very nice, screen is awesome, carplay rocks
I had this installed in a RV and the installation was tough, but once it was in and running it is great. I am not telling anyone to drive and change settings but if you buy this you should consider this item so you dont have to put car in park and put on the parking brake twice to change settings.
