The N-3B was created to protect Air Force ground and crew members from the extreme cold weather climates. First offered in midnight blue, the parka was later changed to a sage green and re-designed when it was adopted by all military services.

- FORM & FUNCTION - N-3B cold weather parka helps keep you warm during those cold weather months with several features. Adjustable snorkel hood with a removable faux fur trim and faux mouton lining keeps your head and face warm when the wind picks up, with the storm flap on the front helping to protect your core. Water-resistant shell, quilted lining, and polyester fill add to the insulation against the cold.

Great quality parka, sturdy, heavy and extremely warm. A bit larger than expected. Came wrapped with an Alpha Industries plastic bag and a plastic hanger. Every button and zipper with protective paper. Even the tags look good. About the size, here's the deal: I am exactly 6' (1.82m) and 194 (88kg), I bought size Large and it fits a little bit big, but it looks good and it allows total freedom of movement and layering. I do believe however that if you are about the same size as me, you can buy a Medium for a snug and fitted look, just as they show in the stock photos. The main zipper is a little bit of trouble in the upper part, but no deal breaker, it feels durable. About the length of the parka, it is exactly 32 inches (81cm) measured from the back from neck to tail. Posted some pictures for reference. Overall, a great product. I recommend it for extreme cold weather.

This is my second purchase of this jacket. Last winter I gave my first one to a friend because they needed a coat and for some reason I got north face instead. It was one of their top-of-the-line parkas, 550 fill blah blah blah. It SUCKED compared to the Alpha industries jacket. It’s weird to say this but I literally missed that jacket all winter. My new one got delivered today and it’s everything I remembered. SO comfortable and super warm. The hood is amazing. It's 30 degrees In Chicago today and I walked to the gym with just a T-shirt on and I was almost too warm. Fit: I'm 6'3", lift regularly, and the XL was perfect. Still maintained a slim fit shape, but definitely room to layer. Not too baggy at all. Large would be too tight for me I think. If you are tall and super skinny a large would probably be good. The ONLY gripe is the zipper sticks sometimes but it's heavy duty and won't fail. And maybe the wierd fake plastic bullets in the upper arm pocket are cringe but whatever. Either way best winter jacket I've owned. The first one I owned for three years, and it never looked ragged or dingey. I will have this one for many years to come

Alpha Industries has been around for awhile, and their N-3B is truly a great Parka. I was first issued one of these for some cold weather ops while on active duty back in the 1980's. Due to a recent relocation from the Tropics to the Continental U.S. - - - a winter coat is MANDATORY for this old sun bum! I have read where other customers have written in their reviews that 'the one I received did not have metal zippers, or the Orange lining.' Received mine this morning, and it had both. When I opened the box, I could not believe how well this Parka was packed. There was paper protective wrap around each individual button that anchors down the storm flap. The faux fur on the hood was protected with both paper, and a clear plastic over-wrap. Since this had metal zippers, I knew that the first order of business was to place a few drops of household 3-in-1 oil into the zipper clasp, then slowly work the zipper along the full length of its' track in both directions a few hundred times to gently break it in. Reoiling as it becomes necessary. This will help to ensure trouble-free operation over many years. These zippers are very sturdy metal. I am 5 feet 6 inches (1.6764 M) and weigh 160 (72.5748 Kg) pounds. I ordered a Medium Slim Fit. The coat fits perfectly. No doubt this will be a warm coat, especially if you layer your upper body. I do not. It was 28 (-2.2222 C) Fahrenheit when I took the coat outside to test it for the first time. I wore only a light T-shirt underneath. There was a 17 knot northerly wind blowing. After standing in the wind for about ten minutes, I had to undo the top button of the storm flap and unzip the zipper to that level - - - as I was getting toasty to the point of overheating. I did not try putting the hood on. In summary, this is a great coat!

First of all, sorry for my poor english. I hope that somebody from Alpha Industries read this review because I love this jacket but I am very disappointed with it and with Alpha Industries. This jacket is great, really warm, soft, good-looking... BUT... The quality of some parts are really bad: The zipper was broken very soon. The bad part is that I had to unpick the seams of the entire jacket in order to change the zipper. (The zipper shown in the photo is the new zipper. My finger points to the place where the original zipper was broken). The sleeve seams were broken too. I don't know what to do now to fix it! I have to say that i use the jacket in a normal way and taking care of it. Those problems are not due to a bad use. I hope Alpha Industries fix all those problems to gives us the opportunity to enjoy their jackets.

Perfect fit. I'm 5'9", 180lbs athletic build and in between a medium and large so fitting is always a b**ch. Quality seems to be great. Stitching, zipper and buttons are all legit. One thing I love about this jacket is the stitching. It's done in a way that allows easy, full range of motion that doesn't shift the rest of the jacket every time you move. Warmth is good. I've used it in mid 20's temps and its fine with a tshirt and light sweatshirt underneath. It's not gonna keep you toasty warm but I think these jackets are designed to keep you from being cold, with good breathability for moving around in. Meaning great for hiking, working and walking; prob not awesome for standing around in zero degree weather. Haven't tested yet in snowy or wet conditions. Will update when I do. The pocket thing is a little annoying as the hand pockets are set high as they're military style jackets and I would want my hands chest high where my rifle handle is if I were using this thing in the military, but I'm not. I would prefer to have lower hand pockets sewn in as these are their civilian line (they have their legit mil-spec line of jackets that are 3 times the cost, as I believe this company is the original manufacturer of the US military jackets). Overall, this is the best fitting jacket I've ever owned, perfect warmth and damn stylish too.
