We have a crawl space that measures approximately 40’x60’ in size (about 2400 sq feet). We are located in a flood plain and can get moisture in our crawl space, so we use a dehumidifier down there that runs pretty frequently. We haven’t had it long, but so far this dehumidifier has worked well for us at keeping the humidity at the levels we are looking for. It has reduced the humidity quickly for us, despite the fact that our space is quite a bit larger than the specifications for the unit. The humidifier was delivered quickly (which we needed) and was packaged well. Normally I can expect some carton damage or item damage when I order items of this size, but the packaging on this was great at preventing any shipping damage. The dehumidifier is ready to use right out of the box. The unit included all of the necessary accessories to plug it in and use it immediately, so we didn’t need to make any trips to the hardware store for additional parts and pieces. We are using it with the included drain tube which runs to our sump pump, and we have it sitting right on the concrete floor. The on board push button controls are easy to use and intuitive. We did not purchase any additional remote controls for the unit because we found the on board ones to be sufficient for our needs. One of the major benefits of this dehumidifier is that it is more compact than other dehumidifiers of its specifications. That was an important factor to us, because it is difficult for us to get a dehumidifier down into our crawl space. Our previous dehumidifier of similar specifications was much larger, and required multiple people to lift it while barely squeezing it through our hatch. This one only required one person to lift it down, and it easily fit through the hatch. The unit does run a little bit louder than our previous larger dehumidifier, but we are working it pretty hard since our space is larger than what the unit is specified for. I do not find it overly loud. Some of my older dehumidifiers were much louder than this one, and would rattle. This one is definitely an improvement over those. Overall, we are very happy with our purchase. I am considering also purchasing one of these for my mother’s basement, because the size is great and she would find it easy to use.

I purchased the Alorair Sentinel HD55p dehumidifier to replace a unit from another brand that we had had in our basement floor for about five years. The other unit was noisy and I had it on a schedule that would shut it off during sleeping hours. This unit is much quieter and the best part is that it doesn’t have a loud start/stop noise; it’s more of a monotonous drone-like sound. I have noticed that the humidity indicator percentage number on the unit is higher than the reading on a separate measurement device I have for indoor temperature/humidity. The other sensor registers about 7 to 8 percentage points lower usually. This is ok since I had that same reader with my old dehumidifier and the percentage was always higher. At least I know this Alorair unit works better, I just wonder why the readings aren’t closer though. Lastly, I use the gravity pump, which lets water outside our home. I also like that it’s Energy Star rated for energy efficiency, I’m writing this review after setting up the unit only two months ago so we’ll see how well it does in the long run. At this time, I am pleased with the value this product brings to combat indoor humidity and mold that we can experience while living on the East Coast.

I placed this unit in my crawlspace. It is compact in size and easy to set up. However, the unit failed after 3 weeks. I got an E4 pump error. Appears the pump is too weak to pump the water when the humidity levels rise. Oddly, the pump also does not automatically shut off when the humidity level drops below the desired setting. It's an expensive piece of metal that doesn't work. I also purchased the wired remote control which works but the unit is unreliable.

I have two of these. One in my motorhome and one in the upstairs bathroom. So far both are running near 24/7 (except “window open weather days”) and doing excellent. For fun, I drain some of the water and mix it with soap for cleaning non-food-contact surface areas and the water is very soft and lathers well. It takes the unit about an hour to recover from a hot shower and the towels have never been so dry the next day. It’s quiet. I’ve tried a few different locations and ways of using it, but I totally recommend saving your time and leaving it on continuous mode and the closest to the center of the room as practical. Also, keep some gentle fans going to circulate the air because humidity doesn’t seem to move around like smell or temperature. It will stabilize around 39% in my environment (which is great for me!). I would definitely buy another one if I needed it.

I had to return because it is too heavy for me to maneuver. 4 stars because the drain hose connection is on the lower part of dehumidifier. I needed to put raise it up and between being in a low crawl space and lifting it up higher….. I just didn’t have the strength. It’s well built. Disappointed I couldn’t use it.
