  • Great deal on quality, small crawlspace combo dehu+pump - when on sale
Style: 120 PPD with Condensate Pump
5/21/2024 update: Still going strong, a year out. Didn't have to use it much in the winter, but it's been a hot humid "spring" here in michigan (already hitting close to 90 some days with humidity in my crawlspace getting into the high 70s without this running.) It's consistently getting things down to about 45 or 50%. For people trying to get below that, almost none of these systems are designed to do that. So far, so good. Great purchase, great, fast responses from the company via email. Bumped to 5 stars. Original review. I got it for my crawl space, which has a super tight entry way and short ceiling. It was one of the few models that would even fit in the door. It was a pain to drag around under there, but possible for a man with a heart condition and bum knee, so not too bad. It's a 1000 Sq ft space down there and it got my summer humidity down to 45% (from 75-80% originally) in there rather quickly, but because there's two sections, I'll need to get a ducted fan to circulate the air better. It has a decent built in fan that blows pretty well, and you can attach a 6" duct to it, which is nice, but Alorair says only 6 feet max length for that, which feels like nowhere near enough to be useful. It has a built-in pump, which comes in quite handy, and means only one plug. (Some people recommend getting a separate unit in case it breaks, but Alorair gives pretty clear instructions on how to replace it including electrical diagrams, so I'm not super worried about it.) FYI, it runs pretty quiet, even lying on the ground right next to it, I've been next to louder fans inside the house. I can't really hear it inside at all unless I lie down on the floor and really listen to it. (I would not get the ceiling straps unless you think it will flood.) It pulls about 3-400 watts while running, but can spike as high as about 1100 or 1200 watts during startup. Currently on the same circuit as my well water pump, so I only run it when no one is showering, but plan to get a dedicated circuit ASAP. The remote works great, I used a 50ft cat5 cable to run it up to the main living area, and you can set it to run based on the sensor in the unit, or the one in the remote panel itself. Alorair answered emails on their site very quickly - within one business day. I'll update if there are any issues. ... show more

  • So far so good
Style: 120 PPD with Condensate Pump
Set it up in my crawl space, nice compact looking little bugger. It was well packaged and arrived safely. Easy set up out of the box, run a cord and the drain line and away it goes. Very quiet, can't hear it through the floor. The build in pump keeps up well, should keep the everything nice and dry underneath the house. ... show more

  • Incredible customer service
Style: 120 PPD None Condensate Pump
When I received my Alorair sentinel things went well until the temps dropped in the fall and the unit began to ice up. I called customer service and they meticulously trouble shot the unit with me and sent me repair parts along with great video links for installation all at no cost to me. Unfortunately the unit was finally determined to have a refrigerant leak and Alorair sent me a replacement unit at no cost to me. The new unit has been running great and my cellar is cold in the winter (which is why I decided on the Alorair in the first place). I was very impressed with Alorair's customer service department and their careful troubleshooting and final resolution. Great Outfit. ... show more

  • Poor Quality Control, Bad Design, DO NOT RECOMMEND
Style: 120 PPD None Condensate Pump
After unpacking the unit, I noticed that the large product sticker was placed on upside down, definitely not a good sign, and I should have returned the unit immediately. Instead I needed to get something running in the basement, so decided to ignore. I then tried to install the plastic air exhaust adapter, it would not fit at all and looked like it was designed for a different unit. I thought maybe it was intentionally made to have a tight fit, so, I applied a little bit of pressure to get it to go on, it broke way more easier than it should have. Luckily, I did not need the exhaust hose, so I threw the piece of junk adapter away and marched on. I powered up the unit and it did it's job, however the humidity on the main control was always 12% off. It WAS dehumidifying though and sending this thing back thru Amazon was going to be a real PITA, so I decided to just compensate the difference in the setting and move on. After about a week, I noticed the humidity in the basement had risen significantly. I have a standalone humidity gauge in the basement (because I did not trust the one on the unit) and noticed that it had risen significantly. Upon inspection the main control was unresponsive and I had to cycle power to the dehumidifier to get it working again. I hoped this was just a "glitch" but it happened again about 2 weeks later, and a third time a week or so after that, and a 4th time a few days after that. At this point, I was beyond my return date with Amazon, so I just connected it to a 24 hour timer and cycled power off to it once a day to reboot the controls. I have an electronics background and plan to rip out the controls at some point and replace them with something more reliable or use an external control (assuming there isn't a problem with using the external control). Recommendation: RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN! While some have indicated they are having good luck, they have had better luck than I have. It can't be guaranteed you will get a good unit, and it is evident that this company has absolutely ZERO quality control in place. If you get one of the bad units, it will be a major PITA to return thru Amazon. Don't risk it? ... show more

  • Easy install
Style: 120 PPD with Condensate Pump
This unit is portable, and worked well when paired with a similar Alorair unit to dehumidify my encapsulated crawl space. Between the two of them, they had the humidity level down to 50% from 78% in a day. That includes framing that was fairly high moisture. Not sure on longevity as yet, but the units are quiet enough that you have to strain to hear them under the crawlspace. May purchase another for the garage. ... show more
