This is the third case I've tried for my first-generation Kindle Scribe, and the third time proves to be the charm. The first two cases were a laptop-style bag and a folio-style sleeve. Both were good for storing or transporting the Scribe, but didn't add anything to it while it was in use, and had to be laid aside somewhere. This case, being always attached, protects the Scribe from spills and impacts when it's sitting around and can act as a stand at two convenient heights. I was initially a bit confused because the orientation of the device didn't match what's shown in the product photos: When the hinge of the case is at the top, the wide part of the Kindle's bezel is on the right. This seemed strange to me because, being right-handed, I usually hold the wide part of the bezel with my left hand. But when the wide part of the bezel is on the left, the hinge of the case is on the bottom, and the cover isn't in the right orientation to serve as a stand. It turns out this isn't an issue. When the hinge is at the top as it's designed to be, the pen holder part of the case is on the left, making it wide enough to hold with the left hand without touching the screen. And of course the Scribe works equally well "upside down" as right side up. In addition to offering protection, the case also solves the problem of keeping the pen handy. Although the pen attaches magnetically to the Scribe, it doesn't stay there securely when you're holding and using the device, so I would tend to keep it in the sleeve, where I had to dig for it when I needed it. Now it's always right there. The only drawback to this case is that it adds significantly to the weight. The device really has some heft now, at 812 grams (about 28 ounces, or 1 3/4 pounds) — enough to make a difference in a suitcase or a backpack. This isn't enough for me to dock it a star, but it's something to be aware of.
