  • Great for reading. Good for note taking. Comics meh.
I think I’ve had the Kobo Libra Colour for about a year. It’s preformed pretty well for me. Its wider than the kindle because of the handle on the side with the navigation buttons. Useful when you’re too lazy to lift the other hand up to swipe right or left on the screen. Screen is bright. The colors are muted, almost like pastel but with more contrast. I read some on it and thats been enjoyable, but not for reading comics. It’s possible, but clunky. I think it might be that way with other devices too. Zooming in and out of comic pages while trying to scan, it’s possible but not fun. I use it mainly for note taking. Took a little to get use to how to write on it. The screen is not textured. Also, your palm can disturb your writing if it touches the screen. You can wear the two finger palm glove to keep that from happening. It’s got a bunch of colors and pen types to choose from when writing. I like to pull in PDFs to mark up and then I can pull them off the Kobo to share with others. Getting to the files takes a little work, but there are tutorials online. You can change the background of your notes which is cool. I did not get the Kobo pen. I went with the metapen. I liked the way it looked. I also like that the Kobo allows you to personalize the screensaver. My major gripe is that it takes about 10-15 seconds to start up. ... show more

  • Kobo Libra Color is Worth Your Money
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I’m so glad I bought the Kobo Libra Color—it’s a product that’s on par, if not better, than the Kindle. One feature I absolutely love is the page-turn buttons; they add such a satisfying, tactile experience. It’s also incredibly lightweight and easy to handle. The color display is another highlight—it really enhances my reading experience, making it feel more like holding a real book. The battery life is excellent, and I find myself using this e-reader more than my Kindle now. Adjusting the screen brightness is also much more intuitive compared to the Kindle. Overall, in my opinion, this is the superior option. I’m so glad there’s a great alternative to the Amazon brand. The ironic part? The Kobo Libra Color is actually priced cheaper on Amazon than on the Kobo site! ... show more

  • Fantastic replacement of Kindle Paperwhite
I've owned a Kindle Paperwhite for 11 years and decided to upgrade since the newer e-readers now have a more gentle backlight with less blue light. I bought both the new Paperwhite and the Kobo Libra Colour to compare side by side. The Paperwhite was hardly an upgrade from my 11 year old device--plus it is heavier, larger, and harder to hold. The Kobo is much more lightweight, comfortable, and ergonomic with the wide side bar and physical page turn buttons. I can easily and comfortably hold it with one hand. The user interface on the Kobo is also much cleaner and less in your face Amazon-store-junky. I can also access Libby directly from Kobo to easily check out library books. I love how you can change the screen brightness by just swiping up and down on the left of the screen instead of having to go into the menus. As for the downsides, I wish the screen was a tad brighter since I almost always have to have at least 15-20% brightness turned on. The color is also a nice touch but I wouldn't say it's vibrant. Overall, I find reading on the Kobo a lot more comfortable and natural than on the Kindle. I would probably only return to the Kindle if they brought back the Oasis and cleaned up their user interface. ... show more

  • Great hardware, software could use some improvement.
Great device, the notebook software could use some improvement. It just feels inconsistent. Particularly the advanced notebook. Nothing I think can't be solved. Just more robust software. Its usable. Just with some significant limitations and a few annoyances. The hardware is good. The design is solid. The screen responsive. It feels good to write on with the stylus. The colors are a bit muted feeling pastel like but that's true of all e-ink color devices so not knocking it just pointing it out. I'm glad it has physical buttons. Battery life is better than I expected another, plus. The only thing I'd want beyond this is a 13 inch version for my ttrpg pdfs and the like. ... show more

  • Absolutely wonderful
Pros: Super simple to setup. When I say setup in including overdrive (if you don’t know it’s a way to check out library book virtually. I don’t have a physical card just an online card) Online book portals like project Gutenberg are a breeze. It uses google drive or drop box to sync. No more downloading to computer and then moving over Page turn buttons (yay) and they flip if you are left or right handed. And the buttons are snappy and responsive. It’s an ereader of course the color isn’t on the same level for a lot of electronics but for the purpose it serves it’s perfectly suitable. I LOVE I didn’t have to pay a premium price to remove ads. battery life is pretty good if you don’t have WiFi turned on. If you like to pay the subscription it’s 7.99 a month for ebooks and 9.99 for ebook and audio book. And I did a free month and the selection is pretty stellar. I think the thing I like the most is the integrity of the company not wanting to create highway robbery with prices and features. Cons I like the idea of the journaling and notes but I feel like the stylus is a bit expensive. Granted I have an iPad Pro but the kobo is obviously smaller and easier for simple lists. I’ve been told there are aftermarket stylus but I have not looked. The cases available have no way to store the stylus. I’m not a fan of the natural light option. I use it I just have the auto feature turned off. My opinion: I am honestly relieved to be moved off of the kindle platform. I hav no complaints at all. ... show more
