  • A lovely pocket book
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
Overall, I'm really impressed with the OBOOK5. My first impression was how incredibly lightweight and compact it is. It fits perfectly in my hand for easy one-handed reading. It takes about 3-4 seconds for a book to load, which is the only slight delay. The OBOOK5 is a bit smaller than the Palma and much more portable than 6-inch devices. It's so convenient to carry around—I can just slip it into my pocket and go. Highly recommended! As a closed-system device, it's perfect for curating your own library without the distractions of ads or endless notifications. It offers a truly immersive reading experience. I did notice the text can look a little pixelated at times, but adjusting the font settings helps a lot. ... show more

  • Terrific tiny e-reader with a front light, held back by poor screen quality and bad file transfer
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
Honestly I wish this screen was better. It’s a wonderfully compact device, and it actually has a frontlight. Incredible. I also like the physical page turn buttons. That makes it so much easier to use, and every reader should have these. The screen is ok, but the graphics rendering is pretty bad and the resolution is pretty bad too. Type looks jagged and rough. The software does not support advanced OpenType features - I tested out the Garamond Premier Pro font, which has a capital ‘Q’ whose tail should reach under the next couple letters. It just looks like a normal ‘Q’ on this device. Not a deal breaker, but it shows that this is limited by software. The screen on the Y-Ben 4.7” e-reader is much better than this one, but it doesn’t have a frontlight. I really wish I could find something that had a light, a good screen, and a compact pocket size without going for one of those $250+ e-ink android phone things. The file transfer using the OpenMTP program is a disaster. I can't understand why they wouldn't just enable mass storage transfer, but you're stuck with it. I had error messages and a non-responsive OpenMTP app when I transferred, but ultimately it did transfer things. I would probably use Wi-Fi to transfer most of the time if I kept this thing. For the money, it’s probably ok. But the bad screen quality makes it a disappointment. I pad $90 for it, but it’s worth $60. ... show more

  • Best E-Reader Out There Best E-Reader Out There
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
The OBOOK5 is an amazing device!! The software is super simple which makes it very easy to navigate through it and has absolutely no ads. It's a lot more portable than most other ereaders out there but still packs a punch with its speed and battery life! The customer support team is also absolutely wonderful! I had some issues on my original device and they offered to replace it immediately no questions asked. I love the OBOOK more than I love my kindle if I'm being honest. I'd highly recommend this product to people who are looking for something simple where all you need to do is drag and drop your ebook files into the device and start reading! ... show more

  • Cheap, low quality device.
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
Avoid, screen quality is awful and the interface is slow and sluggish. Wanted something like the x4 with a backlight and this is not it.

  • Simply Fantastic
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
I found i wasn't reading as much as I wanted to because my "normal" sized ereader was too large to constantly have on hand while I was on the go. It wasn't "big" so much as "not pocketable" which meant I'd leave it on a counter or in a bag. This solved that completely. It's small and light enough to fit effortlessly and invisibly into a pocket, which means I can pull it out whenever and just read, instead of reaching for your phone. Waiting in line at the store or airport? Read for a few minutes. Waiting for your family to use the restroom before you leave home? Read a little. I was originally worried that the screen would be too small. It's perfect. It has a backlight and page turn buttons along the side, which I love. It even has a headphone jack so you can listen to to audiobooks, on the go. My only criticism is that he software is a little barebones at the moment. There's no dictionary, which I miss - though I'm told it will be added soon. You have to copy over books manually (no DRM support) but it's easy to do. I wish it ran Android so I could sideload my own reader or third-party book apps. But at the end of the day, I don't copy books over often. Once they're on, and you're reading, the device just melts away, and it's down to you and the words on the page. For the price I have zero regrets. ... show more

  • GREAT AFFORDABLE PALM-SIZED EREADER! GREAT AFFORDABLE PALM-SIZED EREADER!
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
I bought it mainly cuz the one I have is just too big for my hand and I want something small and lightweight that I can bring anywhere cuz it easily fits in my purse. I found myself reaching for this more often, even when I’m at home. I’ll tell you all I know, pros and cons and why I think it’s the best one at this price point. First off, inside the box you’ll get the device, a free black folio case with sleep/wake function, a cable and a quick start guide What I like about the device: >> pocketable and lightweight - feels well built and the size kinda reminds me of iphone4 >>has 20 levels of front light so i can read in low light and a night mode. >>has a legit e-ink display! (And not some other mini device pretending to be an ereader but actually has LCD screen that can strain your eyes.) >>can read audiobooks (has speaker grills and 3.5 mm audio jack) >> letters don’t fade even in direct sunlight. and look even better with Bookerly installed! >> you can install more fonts, adjust the font size, set it to left or right-handed reading, check the chapters, bookmark a page >> you can take a screenshot when reading or listening to your audiobook by tapping the upper left corner and lower right corner simultaneously >> you can add wallpapers, change the standby and shutdown wallpapers >> has bluetooth to connect your speaker for your audiobooks >> with wifi to check for system updates and download ebooks on Gutenburg >> I was able to transfer books from both mac and windows laptop >> there’s a strap hole so you can attach some charms or a strap (but really you don’t need one. It fits right in the palm. And the texture of the free folio case it came with adds a grip.) >> a full charge lasts me a about 6-7 days. I just close the folio case which leaves it on stand by. I don’t power it off and bet it would last more if I do so Cons: >> no built-in “look up” / dictionary. But I did find a .dict folder so maybe I’ll try to add some dictionary files and see if it works >> thumbnail / book covers especially those with complex designs are kind of pixelated >> audiobooks reset to start when you close it so you have to take screenshot before you close so you know which part you’re at for the next time you open it >> I was able to successfully transfer files from mac but I had to download OpenMTP app to be able to do so and sometimes the app freezes and it ejects the obook device. So when I have a lot to transfer, I borrow my spouse’s windows laptop. (Transferring files in windows is easy peasy) >> runs Obook OS (linux-based) and just like a kindle, you can’t add apps. And you need to sideload books. In the settings you’ll find “check for update” so I really hope this device gets updates in the future. I’m so glad I found this cuz at this price point, I haven’t found any ereader that has adjustable front light, is palm-sized and has a legit e-ink display. I just can’t get myself to spend $280 or more for a palm-sized ereader, it’s too much for me. This device may not be for everyone cuz this is just a minimalist straightforward ereader. But I think it’s a great affordable legit e ink reader that fits my needs. I’m very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Incompatable with a Mac even with their suggested software
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
I wanted to like this little device so bad. I bought it to replace being on my phone in bed at night-- I looked at the xteink but went with this one because it has a lit screen and can play audio. If it had worked as advertised it would have been perfect for curling up in bed with the lights off reading for a bit, and then turning on some audio and going to sleep. There's some technical flaws to the device, it formats epub kind of weird and the screen resolution is decidedly mid but for my use case this would have been fine. I liked the feel of it in my hand and it changes pages quickly enough that the small amount of text you get per page isn't a big deal. Unfortunately it won't cooperate with my computer. I have a Macbook Air that also runs windows parallels and I cannot get the recommended software to reliably find the OBOOk5 and allow me to put books on it. I saw another complaint that it wasn't compatible with their Mac but because the company gives directions and I have windows parallels as well I thought I would be fine. This was not the case. A few times their recommended software managed to find my device and ONCE it let me put a single file on but after that it wouldn't let me add anything else, then it lost the device and could never find it again. It's frustrating because I don't think there's another ereaader that has the same form factor, simplicity, and features. If they release another ereader in this line that has better software that was Mac compatible I'd probably try again, but $90 is too expensive for me to want to spend a lot of time trouble shooting, especially because of the screen resolution and formatting issues so I am returning it. On the other hand if you're a windows user who wants a little tiny ereader to replace bedtime phone scrolling you might want to check this out. I don't think I'd want to read for long long periods of time on it but as a nighttime phone replacement in theory it would be great. EDIT: Their customer service on this was very good, they were super responsive and offered a refund right away. I did end up buying an Xteink X4 as a replacement and I would say if you have a windows machine and aren't interested in learning how to do things like flashing software the OBOOK5 absolutely has the Xteink beat. The out of the box software is better, the UI is much easier because of the touch screen, it handles epub better, and the hardware feels nicer in the hand. The crosspoint software you can add to the Xteink X4 is better than what the OBOOK5 has but again that's 3rd party software you have to install yourself. For most people I don't think it's really necessary. Again ONLY FOR PC USERS, NOT MAC. Really I think if they made an OBOOK5 Pro or something they should just allow for expandable SD card storage like the Xteink and just avoid system conflict altogether, plus that would allow for a lot more room for audio content. E-book files are tiny but audio files are much larger. I'm baffled by how many ereaders EITHER have expandable storage OR are audio capable. Audio is what makes expandable storage matter?? Anyway I'd love if they fixed their Mac compatibility issues!! I would 100% trade the nicer crosspoint software for a front light and audio capability. ... show more

  • Personally it’s worth the price Personally it’s worth the price
Color: Blue Memory Storage Capacity: 32.0 GB Size: 32GB
This is a very nice ereader. I’ve been using it daily for around 3 months now and I have very little complaints. The back light is very nice and the touchscreen is responsive (though it can be a little difficult to hit the precise position of some of the menu buttons) The reading tracker app built into the device is very useful when it comes to statistics on your reading. My biggest issue with the device is the lack of a 12 hr format for the time. It’s 24 hr only. The storage is more than enough to put my entire epub library onto the device. Holding it in your hand is comfortable, though the case that comes in the box is a little annoying to have on the device. I ended up 3d printing a new case to add some protection as I bring it to my job daily. ... show more
