Great little device. I'll break this review down into a few short sections, below. - Functionality: This device is great for a small e-reader. Loading books through the computer and included cable is easy enough. Navigating books is easy and can be done either by tapping/swiping the screen, or using the physical side buttons. The backlight is great, too; it gets quite dim and also very, very bright. The device also has the ability to play music files, but I have not tested this feature. - Software: The software is quite barebones, but this is good for an e-reader. There are some basic library management/organization features, with the ability to group books in folders. While within a book, there are several font, sizing, and spacing options to adjust the reading experience to your liking. There is also a great dark mode that makes reading in the dark quite enjoyable. You can also bookmark pages, navigate to different chapters/sections, search for specific words, etc. The device changes pages very quickly, which is really nice. - Build Quality: It is compact, light-weight, and very pocketable. Since the Obook5 is so light, it is really comfortable to hold with one hand. The build itself doesn't feel too premium, but it doesn't feel cheap. The color choice is a little.. 'unique', but with the case on, the color isn't too visible. The included case initially confused me, specifically on how to mount the Obook5 to the case. To mount the device, you need to remove the thin protective film on the center of one side of the case, which will reveal a sticky adhesive. Simply attach the sticky-side of the case to the back of the Obook5, and you're set. Not the most ideal setup, but it is way better than not having any case at all. Over all, this is a great e-reader.

I found i wasn't reading as much as I wanted to because my "normal" sized ereader was too large to constantly have on hand while I was on the go. It wasn't "big" so much as "not pocketable" which meant I'd leave it on a counter or in a bag. This solved that completely. It's small and light enough to fit effortlessly and invisibly into a pocket, which means I can pull it out whenever and just read, instead of reaching for your phone. Waiting in line at the store or airport? Read for a few minutes. Waiting for your family to use the restroom before you leave home? Read a little. I was originally worried that the screen would be too small. It's perfect. It has a backlight and page turn buttons along the side, which I love. It even has a headphone jack so you can listen to to audiobooks, on the go. My only criticism is that he software is a little barebones at the moment. There's no dictionary, which I miss - though I'm told it will be added soon. You have to copy over books manually (no DRM support) but it's easy to do. I wish it ran Android so I could sideload my own reader or third-party book apps. But at the end of the day, I don't copy books over often. Once they're on, and you're reading, the device just melts away, and it's down to you and the words on the page. For the price I have zero regrets.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the OBOOK5. My first impression was how incredibly lightweight and compact it is. It fits perfectly in my hand for easy one-handed reading. It takes about 3-4 seconds for a book to load, which is the only slight delay. The OBOOK5 is a bit smaller than the Palma and much more portable than 6-inch devices. It's so convenient to carry around—I can just slip it into my pocket and go. Highly recommended! As a closed-system device, it's perfect for curating your own library without the distractions of ads or endless notifications. It offers a truly immersive reading experience. I did notice the text can look a little pixelated at times, but adjusting the font settings helps a lot.

The oBook 5 is a great little ereader. There's so few options for ereaders of this size that it's not like there's many options regardless. But this ereader is unique for its size class in having a backlight, and it gets VERY bright if needed. The battery life is very good, and with 32gb of storage it could easily hold thousands of epubs. I wound up returning mine though, because the build quality is just so bad. The charge port in mine wasn't even straight, like the port's insides were coming off the motherboard due to a bad soldering job. If they charged an extra $50 for better build quality I'd happily buy one and keep it for years.

Broke in a week! It was a completely fine device for the whole week of it's life. Truly amazing size and great software for those who only need the bare minimum. But then the screen suddenly froze and only the front light would turn on. I'm truly upset about this and I honestly just want a new one of these because it was genuinely a fine device up until it broke.

I am really enjoying this little tablet. My specifications were: must be able to be held in one hand like a phone, must have physical page turn buttons, must have frontlight, and must be able to load my own ePubs onto it. This meets all those specs perfectly. Getting files onto it is a little tricky - I've read it's simple with a Windows computer, but all I have is a Macbook and Chromebook. I couldn't get it to work with my Chromebook, but I downloaded a simple app called OpenMTP that allows me to get it to work with my Macbook. Unfortunately, it can only handle uploading one book at a time for some reason. So if you don't mind fussing a little bit to get your books onto the device, it's great.
