After the hvac guys who bothered to respond wanted a king's ransom to replace an expired heat pump, I discovered these mini-split inverter heat pump units. One manufacturer, Mr. Cool, has the marketing edge in offering 'pre-charged' units, for a do-it-yourself installation, but they seem overpriced. My first purchase was from Blueridge here on Amazon; they are second manufacturer I've seen offering precharged/diy units, significantly cheaper than Mr. Cool but more than three times as expensive as the Albott products! For my second purchase, I chose one with the cheapest price on Amazon on that day. It looks and functions about the same as the more expensive unit. I spent $500 that time. But my third one, the Albott mini-split was purchased for even less, only $435 in total, after coupon on Amazon. Less than 1/3 of the price of the Blueridge unit and, apparently, a similar warranty. I was a little nervous because I realize that the lowest priced companies here sometimes don't have easily contacted customer service...possible warranty issues...but at least you have the initial, 30 day Amazon guarantee. After two installs, I knew what to do when installing this Albott mini-split. Finally I put the included batteries in the remote and turned it on for the first time, just in time to beat 90+ degree heat - and it didn't work! Shoot! After double checking remote batteries and electrical connections...still nothing. Heck, seemed like a flawed unit already installed! I'd hate to waste that labor, but I did think I might be taking a chance with such a low price and an unknown company. I've heard that circuit boards are sometimes bad and can be replaced...still, I was dreading that. I did not at first see the company's email address at the bottom of the cover page of the installation manual, so I tried to contact them via Amazon...on Saturday, figuring maybe I'd get a reply, if lucky, on Monday. Darned if Albott didn't respond within 24 hrs, on a Sunday! I was happy to inform them that I had discovered an error in the electrical hookup at the source, nothing to do with product, easily fixed - and the unit works perfectly! So, I have two things to tell you: 1. This is a great value. Do not be put off by price. Most of these units are made in the same factories overseas! 2. Albott is a real company that actually responds in a timely manner to customer service requests and questions - their email is [email protected]. This product works well. ... show more

Installation was as i expected. Owners manual/installation is not the best, but with it and Google, was able to install in about 8 hrs. If you take your time and do logical steps it was somewhat straightforward. Wiring diagrams reliable and easy to follow, just hookup by the terminal numbers, not colors. As always when working with copper tubing, extreme care during the bending portion is a must. It takes a few minutes for the system to get itself online, so be patient. After a month with use I can say.. Excellent unit, very easy install, great functionality, dry mode works well when humid, auto mode automatically switches from cool to heat mode when needed. Overall great quality for the price. Great seller with prompt response and resolution when condenser fan broke due to loose mounting bolts they sent out new condenser unit promptly resolving issue. Would suggest checking condenser fan/motor mounting bolts are tight. ... show more

    • Inexpensive and worked for my needs

starting in the winter months, heat works pretty good. Air conditioning worked pretty good in the summer. I have it installed in a lightly insulated shop only 3 inches of insulation mostly I just wanted it for creature comfort when I’m out there. The copper tubing was a little soft I kinked it and had to replace that section. Mostly my fault but I wasn’t pushing that hard when it happened. I wish I could set the temperature lower as I just want to freeze protect the shop the rest of the time but other than that works as it should sorting out what app to use is kind of a pain in the ass, but I got there. ... show more

    • What my garage has been missing!

I got this after a certain a/c manufacturer recalled some of their window units. So I used the gift cards to purchase this Albott unit. This was not much more expensive than that window unit (~$100 more from when I bought the window unit), and is 18k vs 12k BTU. Cons: (note most of these are minor to me): -Instructions are not nearly as thorough as other mini-splits I've installed. If I hadn't before, I probably would have been confused. Tool sizes not identified. The a/c vacuuming instructions are lacking. -No remote holder. Remote also looks like it's straight from the early 90s. -The putty I received was garbage. Must have been old or something, because it was quite crumbly. -Instructions give you the option of installing the inside unit from the left or right. Don't pick the left unless you have no choice. Otherwise you have to do the connections inside before it can penetrate the wall and try to fold it back. Just go straight out and back. -The electrical connectors were a bit fiddly to get on until I almost backed the screws out all the way. -The vinyl wrapping felt just a bit short. -User guide not available online. Pros: -Price. This unit is VERY well priced. -Installation is really no different from other mini-splits, so if you've done it once, you're good to go. -Doable in a day easily, especially if you don't have to run new wiring or do structural support like I did. -This thing blows COLD! At 68 F/20 C setting, my previous window unit would cool my ~80 F/26 C garage to ~75 F/24 C in several hours if I was lucky. Sometimes it struggled to go lower. The Albott unit, within an hour, started ticking that temperature lower in a couple minutes and within an hour was around 72 F/22 C. After several hours at 68 F/20 C setting, the garage was actually COLDER than the setting. -It's QUIET. Even being outside right next to the outdoor unit, it wasn't even whisper loud. The inside unit is very much the same--super quiet that it's just a low white noise. -It's efficient. I compared the power usage between yesterday and today from using the window a/c unit all day and the Albott unit. My energy monitoring app showed it was using much less power overall. I haven't had this long but currently this is a safe bet. ... show more
