This dog house was pretty easy to assemble according to my husband (I would've had a harder time with it). The bottom panel has open, narrow slots-- probably to allow ventilation? The 4 legs keep the house off from the ground. The exterior wood doesn't seem to be stained or coated with a clear coat so might do that next summer. It's nice that the roof is slanted to allow rain run-off. No sure about the door panel consisting of separate vertical, plastic panels instead of a solid panel. The only issue is that my heeler doesn't want to use it even though I've put a nice blanket inside of it. She still chooses to sit outside of it in the rain, snow, and mud. She didn't like the big Dogaloo either. Was the cost plus hefty shipping fee worth it? Not sure. ... show more

I had to put this together myself and it was a pain. I still haven’t finished it, one of the last steps is putting together hinges so you can lift the roof of the kennel. They give you these tiny little screws to use for hinges and trying to hold those in place and still get your screwdriver into the head is near impossible. There are no pre-drilled holes for anything. On the other hand, it is very sturdy and very attractive and my dogs liked it. ... show more

We needed something for our new member of our family and was tempted to buy the building materials and put one together myself. I came across this dog house and thought, why not give it a try. The building materials are very sturdy and went together with ease. All total it took my two sons and I 40 minutes to unpack and put together. The front flaps didn't last long though. My puppy decided to use them as chew toys and they are no more. She loves to hop inside and get away from it all. ... show more
