Not only does it have a good rating on the Yuka app that tests for chemicals in your products, it smells wonderful and does the job. My son as wavy, long ringlets of curls at the back of his head, the rest was kinda wild and a little frizzy. We were just using his head to toe baby wash for awhile. Now he has enough hair and this stuff has been a game changer with the leave in conditioner. His hair looks so much better and healthier, and I can comb tangles right out. This works even if your child doesn’t haven’t super tight curls or just wavy hair. Definitely get the leave in conditioner with it. Thought I’d try on a naturally curly haired toddler. Using previous shampoo, the hair would frizz after nap time, however, this shampoo really changed that. The curls are super bouncy, no frizz after drying. Very little frizz after laying down. Soft and gentle.

I bought this for myself, because curly girl method approved "low poo" and "no poo" options for adults are priced like I'm made of money. Hard pass. This is a great "low poo" option, meaning it has less surfactants than normal and they're gentler. This translates to potentially needing to wash your hair twice if you have an oily scalp like me and wash every few days. The first wash feels like it doesn't want to suds; that just means the surfactants in it have bound to as much oil as they can. Rinse and repeat, and you'll get a glorious, sudsy shampoo like you're used to with regular sulfate shampoos. I do still use a clarifying shampoo once a month or so because I use product in my hair and want to make sure I'm getting rid of any excess build-up. Smells good while using but the scent doesn't stay after rinsing. Fine with me. I'm only giving this 4 stars and not five because it doesn't do much for defining my curls, and the other Johnson's kids shampoo in the bright pink bottle (smoothing? I think it has a princess on the front, lol) has some extra oils and conditioning agents that make my hair feel a bit softer without weighing down my curls. If I hadn't ever used the other one, this would be 5 stars. ... show more
