Spring 2020 brought incredible storms to Middle Tennessee. My huckleberry and I were lucky that our home sustained no damage, but many nearby families were devastated when a tornado cut a path from downtown Nashville to Putnam County, 70 miles east of the city in late March. After hearing and reading heartbreaking stories of survival and loss, one of our priorities became figuring out a meaningful storm plan to address the safety of ourselves and our pets, three inside cats and an elderly, mostly-blind beagle. The dog is actually quite obedient, so the plan for her is uncomplicated, but the cats are another matter. We have two hard-shell pet carriers for trips to the vet, but those aren't the answer we needed. Hopefully, we'll never find out whether these bags are or not. In the event that we have to grab and go to the basement or get out of the house quickly, these carriers are the game plan. We've been leaving them open with a spritz of catnip in the places the cats like to hang, and so far, so good. Phoebe (pictured) spends time in the leaf green one every day, and the other two split time napping and stealthing in/from the other two. Who knows what will happen if we actually have to execute the plan, but again, so far, so good. I give an overall five-star rating, because this cat bag meets my needs as described. I like the shape and the zippered openings at both ends. It's lightweight, has top handles and a detachable strap (very lightweight and nothing special), and a detachable fleecy pad with velcro squares on the bottom which provides the rigidity for the floor of the carrier. This is a good bag/carrier, but I would not describe it as rugged or suitable for significant travel. Phoebe fits in it nicely. The boys have less room to spare. For trips to the vet, I'm still going to use the same hard-shell Pet Taxis I've been using forever. I am rating the features for traveling, sturdiness, and comfort objectively as I see them with three stars being "average." ... show more

This is a really nice alternative to the hard sided carriers and my cat seems to not have as bad of an aversion to it as he would the other (I think the large mesh windows to look out of help). I'm glad I read the other reviews regarding the size differences between large and medium, my cat is a short and small 9lbs and i'm really glad I got the large...he is still able to turn around in it, but any smaller and it would be cramped. The spinach green is a nice shade and looks pretty true to the pictured color, my orange cat is a nice contrast to the green :) The downside (for me) of this carrier vs the hard sided carriers is that it tips fairly easily, I put it down on the floor for a second and turned my back and the cat had wiggled enough to tip it onto its side; he also tried to claw at the mesh window and I was worried it may rip if he persisted, luckily he stopped when I put some treats in for him. He is a spunky little cat though and this could just be a personality issue. Lastly, this carrier smells weird! I thought the smell would go away after I aired it out for a day after it got shipped to me but it still has a strange chemical aroma to it. ... show more

I've been using a hard shell carrier prior to this one. It was very heavy to carry and I had a towel folded up inside for comfort, but my poor babies would slip and slide around and end up in the back with the front tipped up - while I'm trying to carry it. Also, it had a cage door on top (with the carrying handle on top) that latched. Once, right before I took it out of the car, I noticed it had unlatched! He would've fallen out if I had picked that up by the handle! After that, I basically carried it in my arms. Now that was fun! I have 3 adult cats, 1 pretty small - 8 lbs, one small framed but quite round (she prefers to be called voluptuous), and the guy in the pictures who is about 11.5 lbs, muscular and loooong! This is fine for the first 2, plenty of room to sit up and turn around. I just assumed long boy wouldn't be comfy in here and couldn't sit up all the way or turn around. Unfortunately, since buying this, I had to take him to a specialist 30 minutes away. I decided to try him in this even though I wasn't sure it'd be too comfy. I was DEAD wrong! He fit fine, and could turn around no problem. I opened the back end enough to get my hand in and was able to pet him during the ride (not a safe driving practice I know). This turned out to be a fantastic carrier for us! This is the first carrier I've used that I can get the cat in by myself (it's always been a 2 man job). I don't think it would work for my big guy on long trips, but perfect for going to the vet. Very sturdy (like carrying a gym bag) and I love the insert, my babies seem much more comfortable and secure with it in there (rather than an old towel). I love how I'll be able to remove the board inside and wash it periodically. I've decided to get another one, the pink one for the Diva! FYI: I could care less, but the color I chose "spinach green" is more of a chartreuse (it's pretty). ... show more
