  • Everything I was looking for
- Multiple fan speed options ranging from almost indescribably quiet to industrial fan (noticeably loud from adjacent rooms) for cusomizable range/sound level. I settled on 2/4 and it's more quiet than a fan we leave on low for white noise at night (IE, we still had to use the fan for white noise). - Simple design means it's easy to clean/fill. It's literally just a bucket with two filter walls placed around a high efficiency (very quiet for its output) fan, which is suspended from the lid. Filling the unit is as easy as lifting off the lid (which is held in place, but otherwise just rests on top of the tank), and filling the lightweight tank in a bathtub (weighs no more than a mop bucket before and after filling) or simply pouring in pitchers of water. - The unit holds a large amount of water (it actually takes quite a while to fill from empty, even in the bathtub), and it distributes that water into the air at a pretty alarming rate as well (I found myself added 2-3 pitchers of water 1-2 times a day to keep up, but that means it was doing its job! - This unit uses evaporative cool-air, and does a great job, as even on setting 2/4 it's putting up 2-3 gallons of water a day. It does so with no visible mist, moisture accumulation around the unit, or any of the risks of other types of units, such as mineral dust (filters handle that quite well), melting or fire risk, and cleaning is very simple since the unit is just a bucket with a fun suspended from a lid. - The humidistat and auto on/off feature is a little overstated, as the humidistat seems to have a limited range and consist of nothing more than LED bars, so you have little to no context for decision there, but it can at least serve as a good reminder to check the tank and refill at least. That being my only complaint, I simply leave it running on a good setting for the sound level and have been perfectly satisfied with this unit, especially for the price, compared to other much smaller or much more expensive units. It's a beautifully simple design that works VERY well. Bless the engineer(s) who conceived this design! ... show more

  • This is what you should buy. This is what you should buy.
I own three of these. I have used them for several years. They work in a small apartment or townhome. They are not a whole house unit. But this is what you need to humidify your house. A simple container that holds water and a fan that draws the moisture into your room air. Don't buy the little electronic mist ones as they just leave dust particles all over your furniture. This is not for when you get sick. This is to prevent you from getting sick. The fan is noisy on the higher speeds. But in a small area you can use the second speed which is very quiet and it works well. You will have to raise the humidity level above what you want as it's not all that accurate. Make sure to buy a separate humidity monitor to gauge the real humidity in your home. Be sure to buy some extra filters and a bottle of bacteriostat. Although you can clean the filters by soaking them in white vinegar. This is a great product from a great company at a great price. ... show more

  • good but needs design change good but needs design change
Works effectively in my 600sf bedroom, typically raising the humidity from about 30% to about 45% as measured with a quality hydrometer. To get good results I made a simple tent to go over the intake. This prevents the already humidified air from being sucked back into the intake which to me is a design flaw. With the tent I can now feel good air output 6' over the unit even when on low, and it is much more effective at it's job. It makes the built in humidity display more accurate also, although it's still usually a few % too high. I use a teaspoon of Essickair bacteriostatic treatment for every gallon of water added and the filters and unit have stayed clean with no odor. At night I keep the unit at setting of 1 or 2 and only turn it up to 3 when I am not in the room because at 3 and 4 the unit is too noisy. Overall it's the best humidifier I have ever had and I like the simple design and ease of use, but I don't thing it would be effective in a 1,250 sf house especially without the modification to the air flow. ... show more

  • It works!
We use it in our bedroom because it's just so dry in upstate NY. Had a small Vicks cool evaporative humidifier but it just didn't cut it. This one keeps our room at 40% fairly easily. The tank lasts about 2 1/2 days, does not leak, can be easy to fill in the tub, but can be noisy at higher speeds and is fairly heavy/cumbersome if filled completely. ... show more

  • Loud on high settings, 1250sqft rating is an over estimate.
I live in an 860 sqft house with four rooms and the humidifier has to be on the highest setting (which is loud) to keep the large room its in (about 350sqft) at a humidity of 30%. Granted the ceiling in the room is vaulted and it is cold here so the furnace is on but even w/ warmer weather and rain outside humidity doesnt get much above 40%. There are two ceiling fans in the large room turning slowly to circulate air. So not terrible performance but I was thinking w/ the 1250 sqft coverage reference in the description it would put out more humidity. Lower fan settings 1 & 2 are quieter but not silent. Water reservoir is made of thin plastic so have to be gentle with it but it is easy to fill and clean. The operation is straight forward. All in all would recommend for smaller space if you want a consistent humidity in the 40's. Wouldn't use in a bedroom unless you like a little white noise at the lower settings and a bit of a roar at the higher settings. ... show more

  • This is a very good humidifier
I got the Essick 700 mini console, used, from the amazon warehouse. I guess it was returned by someone who didn't want it. I didn't want to pay full price for something I was not sure would work for me, however, so I took a chance on it. I am glad that I did. It is a nice little humidifier. Like some other commenters said, it is basically nothing more than a rectangular plastic bucket with a fan in the lid. This is great because it means no worries about leaks. The humidity indicator is not that great, as it does not state the humidity level in degrees, just lighted bars, but I have one that tells me how humid my room is, so I do not need it, anyway. It works very well. I have the fan on 2 and the humidity cranked all the way up at the moment. In the two or three hours I have had it on, it has raised the humidity in the room by 10%. This is fantastic as even with the windows open on a rainy day, the humidity in my bedroom is a steady 16% for some reason. It is not very big. It holds 3 gallons of water and the size is about the same as a small window air conditioner, I guess. It is just the right size for me. ... show more

  • Product is okay, but company customer support is horrible
I bought two of these humidifiers less than two years ago. They're decent, if uncomplicated. They're basically a bucket with a fan on top, but they get the job done. However, when I was setting them up for this winter, I found that one of them wasn't working. I traced the problem to the fan not turning on, but beyond that it wasn't a user-troubleshootable problem. According to the product manual, the top chassis (which the fan is a part of) is a separately re-orderable part. So I contacted customer service by email to find out what the cost would be to buy just that part, to see if it would be cheaper than ordering an entirely new humidifier. The manual had included the part number, which I provided in my initial email. The response I got back said that the fan was not a user-replaceable or separate part (which I hadn't asked for—I asked about the complete top chassis with fan, controls, etc.), but that there was a repair supplier who might be able to get me one if I wanted to replace it myself (again, not what I asked for). I replied that they had misunderstood my request, and reiterated that I wanted to see the cost of ordering just a top chassis, with part number specified. That was two months ago. I have yet to receive any further response from them. So I replaced the broken unit with a Honeywell. I'm not going to ever buy another AirCare product, because this was simply a ridiculous failure of providing customer service. I accept that products break down, and problems will occur from time to time. I will not accept customer service who cannot understand a clearly worded request that provides what should be all the necessary information, and fails to respond when their misunderstanding is pointed out. ... show more

  • INEFFECTIVE
I recently bought the AIRCARE D-Series Small Home/Large Room Humidifier (1,250 sq ft, White). Since my Apt is 600 sq ft, I thought it would be sufficient. The unit is simply made and mostly plastic, but that was to be expected. I liked the 3.5 gal capacity, and even though the fan is loud on speed 4 (the highest and only speed that is at all effective), I was still pleased with the unit. Unfortunately THE HIGHEST HUMIDITY LEVEL I HAVE ACHIEVED IS 38%, and it hasn't maintained that since. If it can't keep up on relatively cool days, it certainly will be of no use when we hit the really cold weather. I suffered badly last year during the 30 days of sub-zero temps we had and I will not do that again! Even in a closed bedroom on high for 8 hours, I only get 35% humidity! NOT WORTH THE MONEY AND IT'S CHEAP!!!! ... show more
