  • Magic Curly Girl Anti-Frizz Solution
I have very thick, naturally curly hair and frizz is a constant. I was introduced to this product at a salon that offers "Curly Girl" haircuts. The stylist barely cut my hair, but the way she washed, conditioned and styled it was AMAZING. NO frizz. She used Deva Curl shampoo and conditioner and then this AG Curl Details defining cream. 1 - barely use any shampoo - just clean the scalp. Shampoo must be sulfate, paraben, and silicone free like Deva Curl. Sulfate free shampoo does not bubble up at all so it can be hard to get used to that, but you should only be cleaning your scalp anyway. Your hair doesn't need or want shampoo. In fact, skip shampoo if you can and just use fingers to rub your scalp. The salon also suggested using course sugar instead of shampoo so you can feel the grit cleaning your scalp, but your hair won't have to deal with shampoo. 2 - conditioner - must be sulfate, paraben, and silicone free like Deva Curl. Condition as usual, but instead of rinsing, just drizzle water over your hair to partially rinse, leaving most of the conditioner in. % left in depends on how dry/thick/frizzy your hair is. At home, I use an empty water bottle to drizzle and I leave in about 98%, lol. 3 - Immediately apply styling product: while still in the shower, tip head upside down, gently squeeze out extra water in hair, then very gently apply styling product trying not to disturb the curls. I have long curly hair and I use about a half dollar worth of the AG Curl Details defining cream. 4 - wrap hair in a microfiber towel. Gently squeeze hair with microfiber towel to remove excess water. I don't use a dryer, but she did at the salon. With a diffuser and NOT disturbing the curls. 5 - no combing, brushing, running fingers through your hair, etc. Do everything very gently. Disturbing the curls adds to the frizz factor. Once your hair is dry, you have soft, beautiful, bouncy curls and no frizz. SERIOUSLY!!!! I have tried other products in place of this defining cream including Redken Curvaceous cream and Paul Mitchell The Cream. Paul Mitchell The Cream worked almost as well, but AG still wins - no contest. As a side note to other curly girls, I was SO excited to see the new Paul Mitchell Curls line - and it's sulfate free. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Using the same regimen above with PM Curls products - my hair was curly all right, but frizzy curly, like when you go to Louisiana or Jamaica and the humidity is like 99.9%. I used it several times to make sure it wasn't just the weather or something. AWFUL! so sad. But it does make me appreciate the products I've found, including this AG cream even MORE. It's magic! ... show more

  • Turns straight hair into soft waves.
Scent: New collection
I hate the stiff feel of hair spray, but this gel leaves me with soft waves that hold well. And if I mist with water the next day, they are revitalized. The scent is subtle.

  • Soft waves with decent hold
I have fine and thin 2a, 2b waves. I was starting my natural hair journey when i found this product and I’ve used it for about 2 months now. It gives me a nice hold that isn’t crunchy and makes my hair surprisingly soft and it has a light hold. I apply it after i detangle with my leave-in and oils in and with soaking wet hair, then scrunch extra water out over my sink then i go in with a cotton t-shirt to get all of the excess water out. no gel needed and this is my hair. i would definitely recommend this to other fine-haired wavy peeps. my only slight issue is that this smells a little weird but the smell goes away after I airdry completely. I haven’t used this with a diffuser yet, but i’m sure it would be the same. ... show more

  • Recoil is better for curls / Details is better for definition
I ordered this on accident - I was trying to order my usual Recoil and somehow this one showed up and I ordered it without seeing the different names. I almost called the company and complained that they sent me the wrong one! But at least now I know the difference in the products themselves. Differences: 1. Recoil smells slightly better (neither smell particularly good). 2. Details feels better in your hand but it has a weird lumpy texture. Details is lighter while Recoil is thick and 'sticky'. 3. I feel like I need 3 times as much product with Details as I do with Recoil. With Recoil I only need a small amount and I can feel it in my hair. With Details I have to put so much in there and I still barely feel it. 4. Recoil is better for curl definition and hold. The curls are better defined and they last longer (sometimes even until the next day if I don't crush them in my sleep). Details literally 'details' your curls/waves but they're more loose. I need more hairspray with Details just to keep my curls lasting longer. I said earlier that Recoil is 'sticky' but that's a good thing because I feel that's the stuff that holds the curls better. 5. Recoil has softer curls while Details has more 'crunchy' looking detailed curls/waves. 6. Details gives more volume to your hair but if you have enough volume already (like I do) that's not necessarily a plus. But since when is volume a bad thing? 7. When I run my fingers through my hair after using Details I get a lot of snags and breaks. With Recoil, since it's a softer feel I can run my fingers through my hair to separate curls better. If you hadn't noticed I prefer Recoil over Details although my husband said my hair looked nice with Details, but that it was just a different look. I always prefer curls over waves so I'm not a fan of the loose curl. And plus since I don't wash my hair every day I prefer that the curls are tighter so they last longer. Just an FYI incase you wanted to know - my hair is 3A and I use a diffuser to blow dry my hair. I use a leave in conditioner after it's washed. Then I put in mousse and the Recoil (or Details in this case). Then I finish it off with hairspray. I hope this helps you to decide which one to buy. I love AG products and I love them even more because the company is from my hometown! ... show more

  • Love this brand but not great for frizz control
Scent: New collection
I’m mixing it with their Recoil. I get more fullness & better curls. Disappointed none of their products can hold up to humidity.

  • Wavy hair
Scent: New collection
Live this stuff!!! I have wavy & curly hair. I mix a nickel size amount of the cream with my gel. Gives me lots of definition without crunch. Next day just refresh with a mist of water.

  • Hold My Curls
I use this right before I am ready to defuse my hair. It really seems to hold my curls in place and not make my hair feel like I soaked it in sugar water. All I have to do is crunch it to break the cast off and my hair feels so good. The hold is still there on days two and three as well. Looks like I just did my hair. Great product. ... show more
