  • Came out blue and didn't cover non bleached hair
Color: 113 African Violet Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 3)
All other colors of this brand that I've bought, the color was true to the bottle and was strong enough to cover natural hair just as well as bleached. But it ended up royal blue and didn't stick to my sister's roots at all.

  • This stuff is to dye for!!
Color: 116 Purple Rage Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
TL,DR: this stuff is legit, works on unbleached (but lightened) hair, it’s an alcohol-free aloe vera based formula, AND you get two bottles for the price of one!! That’s right — 2 for 1! My light brown hair asked for a colorful makeover. The last time I had dyed it was half a decade ago, and before then I kept going back and forth between carrot-top and tomatohead. I figured this time, should I embody a beetroot? Challenged accepted! And thus began this mission. Because my hair cannot handle bleach, I researched what is the best way to transform unbleached hair to purple. The first step was to lighten the hair a shade or two. I stumbled upon a variety of natural methods, and ended up doing a homemade paste of sorts using 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and honey, leaving it on for 30 minutes before washing. I applied it twice — waited about two weeks between application. It made my hair a dark orangey copper the first time, then slightly more golden the second time. Nostalgia almost convinced me to stay with that color, but no… The mission was to get that bloody beetroot! The next step was finding a dye that works on unbleached hair. I had used “Wildfire” flavored Manic Panic the last time I dyed my hair, to obtain that spicy candy red. It didn’t let me down before, so why not go with that brand again, right? Ha! Right. It was quite the letdown. The concoction was more like a color depositing conditioner that didn’t deposit any color. Such deception… but! My determination superseded that feeling, so back to the drawing board I went. After researching legit semi-permanent dyes, I stumbled upon a few, one of them being Adore. I was leaning towards Arctic Fox at first, but after reading almost all the Amazon reviews on this product, I opted for their Purple Rage and Truly Red. I first applied the purple to most of my hair, then applied red to the bottom portion, the bangs, and some of the front strands of hair. I twisted each portion of hair like a cinnamon bun, covered them with a plastic cap, and “put them in the oven” by wrapping a heating pad around the cap (one review suggested to apply heat and mentioned using the heating pad instead of a hairdryer). Because I didn’t want to relive the panic Manic Panic gave me, I left the dyes on for about four hours to ensure proper color absorption. I then unwrapped and uncoiled the hair and washed the dyes out with only conditioner and not so warm but not cold water. And… As you can see from the photos, this stuff really works! To my surprise, the dyes actually didn’t leave my bathtub looking like the aftermath of La Batalla del Vino. The purple dye did leave a few small streaks, but they came off completely right after I cleaned the tub. Also, I didn’t realize at first, but this dye has no alcohol! I avoid any and every hair product with any variation of alcohol in it. My hair appreciates sobriety and hydration. The aloe vera in this formula provides the kind of hydration my hair unexpectically needed from a hair dye. It’s also worth mentioning the package comes with two bottles of dye for the price of one — same size bottle as Arctic Fox, but at half the cost! In this economy, that is most definitely a win. I ended up with four bottles altogether. Just one bottle of each color sufficed. Even after using so much of the one bottle of purple dye, I still had plenty left over. I put some in a separate bottle, added conditioner, mixed them up, and did the same in another bottle with the red. Although it ended up looking like a female Magneto and not so much a beetroot, I’d still consider this mission accomplished! I’m dyeing to try out other colors when I bluelieve I’m redy — maybe in another five years, maybe sooner! So, yeah… 10/10 would recommend! ... show more

  • You must lighten your dark hair for the best results
Color: 116 Purple Rage Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
First of all (have to get this out there before u scroll down) if you have brown hair, especially darker brown hair you will HAVE to lighten it to get results, especially with the purple. The dye itself was great, not too thin, not too thick. I wanted a hint of purple but I absolutely did NOT want to bleach my hair because it would’ve made it very sad. So I put it on the underside of my hair and maybe 1/2 way up on the ends the rest of the hair. Tried a “strand test “ and left it on maybe a half hour with little results. I then tried it again all over (see above) and left that on for maybe an hour and a half and had my head wrapped up with a plastic bag. When I rinsed it out all it really did was make the parts I dyed just look darker, not quite black but close. You may be able to see something if I stand in bright sunlight. The bad of it, like other reviewers said it does stain and will stain your sink and your tub and your skin and basically anything it touches but it’s easily cleaned up. I got it on the wooden drawers of my vanity and panicked but I just used a magic eraser and there’s no sign I got it on there. My sink and my tub were a different story. It stained both and the magic eraser got a lot of it off but it was still visible, I sprayed some bathroom cleaner with bleach on it and waited a minute and used the magic eraser again and it’s all but gone. It also came off my hands while I rinsed it out. My only major issue is that it kind of burned my skin on the back of my neck. I didn’t think it would because it doesn’t have anything harsh in it but my skin started to burn so that’s why I only kept it on for an hour or so. Kind of painful, feels like a nasty sunburn. And before you think “Ahhh well she clearly doesn’t know how to dye her hair” you would be wrong. I’ve been dyeing my hair since I was about 11 years old and I’m 41 now. I’ve used everything from henna to bleach to permanent to semi-permanent color my whole life. I’ve only had this reaction one other time before. Maybe it was the combination of the dye and the bag and the time together, I don’t know. I just put some neosporin on it and it’s much better. So the long and short of it is that if you have dark hair you must lighten it to get a bold purple color, that probably is true for light browns and darker blonde. I might try to lighten a few parts and try again because I still have a bottle and a half left and it didn’t damage my hair at all. And for the record I have shoulder length wavy and fine dark brown hair. I don’t hate it, and I want to use it again but I just didn’t want to bleach my hair. But I knew I might not get the results I wanted without bleaching it. And it lasts a fair amount so I could easily do my entire head at least twice over with one bottle so you longer hair people may be ok with just one bottle. Definitely try this if you have lighter hair. ... show more

  • If you want some serious PINK, look no further!
Color: 190 Cotton Candy Size: 4 Fl Oz (Pack of 2)
I'm a massive fan of all things retro, as well as anything neon. I've been on the hunt for years to find a bold pink to fit my personality, and I've tried nearly every major brand out there (Xmondo, Ion, Arctic Fox, Manic Panic, Lunar Tides, Iroiro... You name it!) One day I just happened to be browsing on Amazon when I stumbled upon Adore and the shade Neon Pink. With the price tag, I honestly wasn't expecting much, but I thought I'd give it a whirl. The second that dye hit my bleached head, I absolutely knew this stuff was gonna be BRIGHT... and I was so stoked! While it isn't advertised as UV reactive, it very much is, as you can see from my blacklight pic. As far as the dye itself... It has a nice, light and subtle scent. The formula has a more gel like consistency, which makes it much easier to apply without making a horrendous mess! My hair is right above my shoulders and very, very thick (think lion's mane), and one 4oz bottle easily does my whole head. I always buy the double pack so I can mix a little dye into my conditioner. Also, I personally dye my hair once a month because I like to keep it super bright...but honestly, I could probably get away with not coloring it for several months and it would still be vibrant. So, if you're looking for an exceptionally bright, long-lasting Neon Pink...this is definitely the brand for you! However, if you're the type that likes to change your hair up every few weeks, DO NOT use this stuff...only go for Adore if you're ready to commit to the pink! ... show more
