    • Good for what they are
I wanted to use these for a while before reviewing. Opening box reviews are (to me) useless as the reviewer hasn't taken the time to investigate the thing being reviewed. Ok now on with the review. These NV binoculars are IMHO very good for the money. They have a single focus dial/wheel on the front left, and an IR illuminator on the right. The left and right eye piece have 2 individual screens that can be turned on/off as to your desired use. I have experimented with one or the other on and both on. The internal screens are 390x390 so it's good for viewing, but has heavy pixelation. That being said I was able to track and identify dear, foxes, and my neighbor's dog without an issue. My distance from the animals was around 100-150 yards. These have different color pallets for the NV. Gray Scale, Green Scale, and Photo negative. The last is like looking at a 35mm film negative. Each NV pallet has it's pro's and con's. While using the unit switching between the pallets helps with the NV ability to identify subjects in different background situations. The Zoom feature is a digital zoom much like your standard cellphones. It is smoother zooming though. Closer to the zoom quality you get from a video camera's zoom feature. The Photo Quality even on the 3M setting is fair at best. Same goes for the Video Quality. That being said... If you purchased these to be used as a NV camera there are better options avail. Some cheaper. These are more for a surveillance/spotting function. Think binocular (Up against your eyes) vs NV screen types (8-12 inches from your face). The eye cups seal the light in while The latter illuminates your face letting every creature see you're there. The IR illuminator has 7 levels of intensity. The viewing screens also has 7 levels of intensity. If your battery is fully charged you can set the IR to 7 (If you like). As the battery level drops the unit will automatically lower your IR level to 5. This unit also has 3 levels of NV sensitivity. For me I have found that NV sensitivity Medium, IR level 2, and screen level 1 make the best combination. If the viewscreen brightness could go lower (And I wish it could) I would use that level. I use the Left eyepiece on, right eyepiece off. That way you still have night vision in one eye. The headstrap functions. It ain't the best but it does the job. I would say it takes about 15-20 minutes of use until you see the full potential of this unit. Using the different modes takes time until you dial in your specific settings. In closing Yes I would recommend these as a good set of NV binoculars. Yes I would purchase these again. Are they the best? No. But they also don't cost $2,500. Yes I would recommend these to a friend. ... show more

    • Surprised how good it is for the price
I was unsure about nightvision for such a low price but went for it anyway, and it definitely did not disappoint! Easy to use and adjust, plus the head strap actually works. Eye relief is good, and adjustable. I can see bout 100yrds in the woods at night with just the built in IR light and in a field could see around 200+. Only down side is the field of view is pretty narrow, at 50yrds you only have about a 30 foot window to view, however the picture quality is pretty good so you can follow things well even with narrow view. definitely recommend! ... show more
