First off, this railing looks fantasic after the install. We are so happy with our chioce. BTW: We choose the black one. We discussed all the issues involved in installing it before the install. As such the install went fine and fairly easy. Their instrutions were limitedly helpful which we understand because there are so many variations of installs for the instrutions to cover. I don't think it was mentioned in the product description, but the Package includes a resonably strong dry wall anchor bolt set for mounting. Though they seemed to have design the mounting brakets to match up with the expected wall studs. So we put the upper most mounting bracket into a wall stud and the other 3 mounting brackets (4 total) ended up over studs too. I can't imagine this will hold true in all cased because of variations in angles of stairs. But in our case, which was a residental home in the USA, it did. As such we only had to use two of their anchor bolts out of the 12 screws need (3 screws for each of the 4 mounting brackets) to mount the railing. The rest screwed right into wall studs.

My wife had asked me to install a railing for our attic to make it safer for everyone (and up to code). I wanted to pick something that was metal and easy to assemble. The handrail arrived quickly, in good shape, and the directions were easy to follow. Other reviewers gave good points on attaching the end caps first, doing so afterwards would have made it challenging especially in my situation where the bottom wouldn't have fit afterwards. Either way, it feels durable, not like anyone is going to smash it with a baseball bat. The measurements listed were accurate and it fit my needs perfectly. I would trust getting this again in other sizes if need be.

Easy install. Things to keep in mind. Install the end caps into the 2 railings prior to putting pole in. If you try after poles are hung, the you need to mallet them on and that will loosen the railing if it it is screwed through drywall. Use a chalk line maker and connect one end to your first screw that is 33" straight above lip of first step. Rail holder rises another 3 inches making height 36". The instructions are in metrics. Remember that the 3 poles are 47 " each and the top and bottom poles should stick out about 1 foot past rail holder; so the second holder should be around 36 " from the first. You can go a few inches either way, depending on where the stud is. your third rail holder must have pole pole inserted and then mark the holes for drilling, take pole and holder off and then drill the holes. If no stud behind no problem, just use the supplied screw reinforcements and use a 3/8 drill bit for the hole. use mallet to tap the plastic in the 3 holes and put the pole and holder back on. Go another 3 feet and put the 4th holder on the wall. Again, you can go a few inches either way, to find a stud. The alan wrench tights the poles securely. Wipe off finger prints with windex on paper towel and then wipe off blue chalk from wall. Vacuum up drill hole dust and then show off your project.

These are nice and are pretty easy to install. I installed 2 of them - of course the second one took about 1/4 the time to install than the first one did. ;-) The ones i ordered were 6.5 feet long. I was a bit surprised that the rail came in 2 pieces but I'm not sure why. The connection is very sturdy. The handrails as mounted - also just rock solid. The rails themselves are somewhat "slick" compared to wood rails, but i think that's just the nature of the beast. The metal rails get chilly - not a problem for me but the wife complained. Fair warning. ;-)

The media could not be loaded. First, Amazon was great about this issue but the item comes directly from Rothley so there’s only so much they can do. I will explain and upload video. The 6.6 foot unit comes with two kinds of brackets 5 to hold the pipe railing to the wall. Type B is double wide because it holds the two pieces of pipe together in the middle. Type A is narrower, they go near the top and bottom. You slide the pipe into the brackets. Each bracket has a screw that you tighten so it grips the pipe. A small Allan wrench is provided to tighten the screws. In the first unit, the type B bracket was fine. The Allan wrench fit the screws and the screws tighten properly. Both type A brackets were defective, however. They were smaller, so the Allan wrench doesn’t fit in them, but I happened to have a small one that worked. The big problem, though ,was that the brackets weren’t drilled correctly. The outside of the bracket is metal, while the inside is a plastic layer that goes around the pipe. On the type A bracket, the plastic wasn’t drilled at all. No hole. So the screws couldn’t tighten and grip the pipe. The Type B bracket was drilled all the way through and was fine; the Type A brackets were not. So I contacted Amazon and they sent out a replacement that arrived faster than promised. The second unit has almost exactly the same problem. One Type A bracket has the wrong screw, while the other has the right screw. So that’s a hair better. Neither one has been drilled through. So now I have to box up and return two defective units via the UPS store. Amazon can’t send me a second replacement and I have to return them for a refund. That’s fair but I believe I will try another brand for my next replacement.
